Very pretty. Still useable. Private road now to a house. Nice flowing creek below.
There is NO FERRY here. This location is a neighborhood. Nothing special to see - there is a bridge on Portsmouth Blvd called Hodges Ferry Bridge but it is just a concrete boring bridge built about 1985 or so carrying 4 lanes of traffic.
WRONG ADDRESS BY FAR - this is a neighborhood - The real Crabtree Falls is in the mountains of VA on the Tye river and is beautiful - has lower access and upper access if you know the roads. There is also a nice mountain campground for people with tents or SMALL RV
Don't miss the northernmost lookout point
Went here years ago when the lake was fairly full. VERY nice and charming hotel with a LOT of character. Great for a romantic weekend get away in the country. A couple covered bridges are nearby as well.
Great spot for photos and relaxing. The whole area is beautiful. Hawks Nest State Park up the road is really nice for a view and a bite to eat looking over the gorge in their restaurant.
You MUST see Paint Bank! Great little restaurant in the general store, nice mill on the creek, nice little hotel, stay in a caboose... CUTE!
