Others have said it already: it's very accessible from I49 and a great stopover midway between New Orleans (see my review of Bayou Segnette) and Dallas. All pull throughs, full hook-ups. Trees. nicely spaced. Clean individual restrooms. No check in facility. You prepay and choose and empty spot. No complaints!

I'm adding my review to encourage a visit to Natchitoches itself. There are some excellent former plantations, but check to see if they are open. The town itself has a cute main street with riverside walking, and a nice state university campus nearby. Both the town and plantations are easily accessed from the campground.

I'd certainly stay here again.

Two free parking lots, separated by large RV’s and semi trucks in one lot and rv’s in the other. Gleaming restrooms (no showers). Paved. Clean. Free. I don’t know of another city that does this, so three cheers Amarillo! And to all those folks crowding the Walmart down the street, next time check Campendium. That’s how I found this gem!

I agree with all the comments made below. I would add that they have extra long sticks for washing windows. The friendly gentleman who helped me with the propane explained how the facility they have for water guarantees that it’s potable. Even if someone were to use it to clean Sewer hoses and fixtures, that water would pass back into the ground and not back into the water supply. They also have a very clean store with the usual things you find at a gas station/convenience store.

Two excellent reviews of this campground precede mine; the only reason I'm posting is to say their observations are still current in 2019. However, I found the wifi to be excellent; ditto for ATT. Access to Baddeck and the Cabot Trail was very convenient. Site five, closer to the road, was nicely flanked by trees and although the noise from the main road was apparent during the day - when we were gone mostly anyway - it is quiet at night. Public facilities VERY clean.

It’s hard to believe that the first five star review I’m giving in a long time is to a casino, but what can you say about a place that offers you a free, clean, fairly level parking lot with a wastebasket and free horseracing next door?

We walked over to the huge complex that contained the track where horse races apparently run all year. There was a huge casino as well. Everyone was very friendly and watching the horses was fun!

We had an OK dinner in the heated clubhouse overlooking the track and watched Thursday night football on our personal TV. Not bad for a cold night in October! Although we walked, as others noted there is a shuttle bus to the parking area for RVs. There were only a couple of RVs here tonight. It is off season.

This site is very convenient to an exploration of Civil War sites in the area, such as Antietam and Harpers Ferry.

With respect, this marks the greatest deviation I’ve had with other members of this community regarding the rating of a campground.

I simply can’t see rating this park as low as 3. Here’s why.

We all know the national parks are overwhelmed. Glacier NP is one of our nation’s treasures, but the amount of people coming in on the west side is much greater than the east side, so that makes the east side attractive, with access to the east side of the park,Many gGlacier and Two Medicine.

This park is set on a mountainside about two miles from the gate. The views from the sites of the surrounding mountains are superb. The restrooms are clean. There is a fairly robust camp store and ice cream area. Large laundry. Pull through sites are not the closest I’ve seen, and are fairly reasonable for a private park. Ours had w/s/e. They have a pool and Jacuzzi.
Very quiet at night.

All those things cost money and contribute to a high price, regardless of whether you use them or not, which is the KOA way.

Criticisms of lawn maintenance between sites are fair, but the park is otherwise well maintained and the people who run it are nice.

WiFi exists but is poor and this is where the campground needs to do a better job. Streaming and WiFi calling for att customers who are without cell service here is very poor. Every call dropped.

We have driven through two other campgrounds nearby and they are at least two stars worse than this one, based on condition and view.

So as to location, access and noise, this is a five star location. That helps explain why people reserve here a year in advance. This was by far the most difficult reservation we made in preparation for a 4.5 month trip around the country. Don’t count on this being available during the short season last minute. Reserve for next year now.

Why are so many people making this a difficult rez to score if it’s a three-star property?

To me the location and general site amenities overwhelmingly make this a four-star campground, party given the few and far less desirable alternatives.

I hope this review helps you make your decision, and I hope the campground reads this and ups their WiFi capability.

Picture this: as you turn off highway 180 to the entrance to Petrified Forest National Park, there are two gift stores, one on your left and one on the right, both just before the park gate (park closes at five pm).

The one on the right does not charge for camping and offers no services, per Campendium. I did not confirm this.

The petrified wood store and campground on the left give you a 30 amp electric-only site for $16. The rest rooms in the store are closed. There are no rest rooms in the campground. You must be self-contained to stay here. The campground is just a large dirt and gravel area. Our site was muddy because it had rained a bit. It’s certainly quiet out here in the middle of nowhere.

Probably the biggest surprise, and a good one, based on other reviews, is that I have four bars of 3G AT&T service.

The person inside was very friendly and let me choose my own site.

The access and location are superb to visit Petrified Forest NP, but the campground itself is a bare bones operation that needs a real makeover.

Located just off I20 east of Dallas, this park offers everything you'd want from a premium campground, complete with friendly service and a welcome cookie, all at a reasonable price (Good Sam discount included). I really enjoyed using the pool and jacuzzi, and they even have a gym and other recreational outlets, along with a water feature if you're lucky enough to have a site backing onto it. Full services at the pull through site made this an ideal stopover from Santa Fe to New Orleans. Others have commented on noise from the nearby I20; we heard nothing. Perhaps ask for a site away from the road. They really take pride here. Wifi; good cell service, cable - the works. No nits.

Great location for exploring north coast, with plenty of charming villages and great dining and music nearby. The two owners are very nice and a cornucopia of information about the area; Campground is clean; has a pool and EXCELLENT WIFI!!!! Needed to add two pads to level side to side. Large open space in the center. Many seasonal trailers, but not a problem where we were placed.

Your GPS service will likely get the location wrong. OnStar got it wrong twice. If you arrive after dark know that there is no lit sign.

As noted, the owners are very friendly and helpful. The sites are pull through, which is always great. There’s a fire ring. The public restroom is OK/good.

The reason the site was rated only three is because the sites are fairly close to one another and they are basically weeds and rocks. They required leveling.

Still, this park has a very homey feel to it and access to the park is superb, especially at the price. Wi-Fi was good and att was lte service, both pluses.
