I grew up going here--looks totally different now, like they've added a lot of neat rides.
Small zoo, but worth a visit.
Got in around dinner time, walked through the front door, and were confused about where to go to get our room as there was no front desk and the 2 guys we walked past didn't say anything. Turns out one of those guys worked there and he came to find us to check us in but it was all very confusing and unwelcoming since we were never greeted and had never been there before. Even the employee himself seemed confused...he sort of did a little walk-through with us and showed us to our private room—which was very noisy all night and morning. Morning was super crowded and loud in the bathrooms. Not the best sleep but at least it was a cheap lodging option in Tucson and maybe if we stayed longer we'd have had a better experience.
So much to see here and such great landscaping. Eat or drink in the restaurant onsite—great selection of healthy delicious options!
Went to the western half and made it just in time to hike the short jaunt up Signal Hill for some excellent views of the sunset. Grab a few gifts in the visitors center nearby too!
Excellent service, Gorgeous location, Fun decor...we LOVED our stay and are already planning to come back in the future on another trip.
Tour the mine for $7 pp on a self guided audio tour or hike around the trails onsite. Visit the blacksmith and the little museum and gift shop.
It was my first ramen that wasn't packaged and it was pretty good--I got the soy milk with pork. Only giving it 3 stars for being just okay, not having a lot of choices on the menu, and having a number of flies in the restaurant land on me. We sat outside after grabbing menus and it was nice people watching.
Hiked part of the PCT and the Mt Judah Loop Trail. Bring plenty of water and sunscreen/hat.
I loved Svens! The tipi was too wet and cold for me this time of year, so I took a wall tent which was great--just like glamping but the rustic Alaskan way. He has an awesome tree house onsite too! Rent canoes or play with his dogs/puppy. One bad thing was the showers are coin operated...a quarter per minute! So $1 for 4 minutes! But this is because they have their water delivered by truck which is pricey and gets used up quickly.
