Goose Creek State Park's RV campground is pretty new, and has spacious, level sites with full hookups. The only downside is there's no shade and the trails aren't close by. Well, and cell coverage is poor too.

I wouldn't hesitate to stay here in cooler weather. This was our second stay.

This campground is one of our favorites. It's only a few years old, has full hookups, and can handle big rigs. Plenty of hiking trails. This trip we went to visit the migrating tundra swans at Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge.

My only complaint is that we discovered that in this very flat location, one site, #4, is not level. We have a short rig, so finally managed to level. However, anyone with a long rig should definitely choose another site if you can.

Quiet, with ample space between campsites. Easy to get to since it's only a few miles from the interstate. We were waterfront, and could enjoy watching all the activity on the lake.

I recommend using a campground map to find one's way around since there are lots of loops within loops in the design. I have to admit that this design help maximize the usage of the available space though. Also, make sure you have two lengths of hose for your water hookup. We had to search for our hookup, and it took two lengths to reach it.

We'll definitely return here in the future. We had a very relaxing weekend.

Midweek in March was a peaceful and quiet time to be in this beautiful area. Views of the lake were great. This was our second stay here, and there will be no hesitation in coming back as long as we can get a waterfront site.

We like this campground for its waterfront sites and good views. Our early March stay was very quiet since there were few campers there. The weather was awful, but that's not the campground's fault. We'll be back again.

Rate does not reflect discount and booking fees. Cooler weather is the only time we'd tackle camping where there are no hookups, and we were very lucky to hit perfect temperatures. Mostly tent campers here, and only small RVs can fit the sites or maneuver the roads.

Quiet campground with large site. However, a low-hanging limb at the very front of the site was very hard to keep from hitting the top of our RV. If the site is to be rated for an RV, that limb needs to go...a 5 minute job! The multiple trails are great for hikers, but may be rated a little easier than they really are. The Hanging Rock trail may start out as moderate, but it's definitely strenuous toward the top, especially for older folks.

Cell service was essentially nonexistent, although texts managed to get through and you might be able to make a call during the moments when there is one bar. Great TV reception though!

I look forward to coming back and checking out the other trails.

Quiet, wooded site. The nice trails were pretty wet from excess rain, but we enjoyed them. Saw the largest pine trees we'd ever seen, and they were in a hardwood forest! There are only 10 electric sites and two of those are handicapped. All others have no hookups. Our only complaint was that our site (and others) was far from level. We had a pull-through, and had to try to level in multiple spots. Finally ended up right inside the site entrance, away from the pad and table. Even then, and with a small RV, we had to put multiple boards under our levelers in order to get the front high enough to level. The front wheels were well off the ground! I didn't feel very comfortable with this, but we had no choice. Overall, a great park, but site maintenance is needed.

Visited in February during rainy weather, but was still able to hike the longest trail one day and visit Fort Fisher the next. Had one of the full hookup sites, which was private and and pleasant. We didn't hear any of the ongoing construction.

Would definitely visit here again, but prefer the off-season again when it's not crowded.

We had a quiet and peaceful stay in a large, private pull-through site. Nights were pretty cool, but most days were comfortable with a jacket. Took in the Wilmington River Walk, Carolina Beach Boardwalk, NC Aquarium, and rode the ferry to Southport. In my opinion, off-season is the very best time to visit here. Beware that if you stay in December or January, the park gate is locked at 6:00 pm!

As others have mentioned, some of the sites are designed backwards, and ours was one of them. We had no issue though because we have a short rig and managed to pull in frontward so that the pad and table (and the view) would be on the door side of the RV. It was easy to run the electrical cord around to the other side. Our site had morning shade, but full sun in the afternoons. However, it was relatively cool while we were there, so it didn't matter.

Loved the trails near the 221 Access. Hiked down to the river, rested while having lunch, then hiked a longer route back along the river. We were almost alone out there.
