This is one of our favorite places to go. The rates are higher than most state parks, but there's also more there, beach, marsh, wildlife (especially birds!), hiking, Atalaya Castle, plus the fabulous Brookgreen Gardens right across the road. Our only downside on this trip were the bagworms in the trees around our site that made a mess on our roof.

This was our second trip to Bandits Roost. It was quiet, with mostly retirees camping during the week in the fall weather. Our site was above the water, with views of the dam to the right and just beautiful calm water in front and to the left. We had a pleasant, peaceful stay.

Rate does not reflect discount. This was our 3rd trip to Bandit's Roost, and it won't be the last. The sites with a water view are superb! We had a huge site compared to most others, and a wonderful wide view of the lake. There was a lot of traffic around us, but it wasn't bothersome. Our weekday stay was very pleasant, even with the afternoon rains.

Some sites here are closer together than I like, and some are back in the woods without a water view, but we've been lucky enough to get the good ones, although they have little shade.

This campground is only a short drive from Wilkesboro, so it's not far from a store, if needed. It's also a good taking off point for exploring quite a few mountain destinations.

One negative...the bathhouse needs to be updated.

This is one of our favorite campgrounds, but you have to get one of the sites with a view of the lake. Many are back in the woods. Although built on a pretty steep hill, the sites are level. Near Wilkesboro, and a good starting point for exploring the mountains.

This was our 4th stay here, and we've found our favorite site, which is mostly private and has a beautiful view. Had mechanical issues when getting ready to leave and notified the person at the gate. He tried to be very helpful. We were able to vacate our site, but had to carefully get into the extra parking on the point to await an RV Tech. It all turned out well though...such is life in an RV.

This was a fall weekday stay, so it was very quiet. The weather was beautiful as well. If you get the right site, this is a great place to go.

Beautiful views of the reservoir, and the dam in the distance. Very quiet park. Most sites aren't level but they're well equipped and clean. 22B had undergrowth blocking a good view of the lake, but the site itself was very good. Although some sites have a great water view, others are in deep woods, so there's something to suit all.

It's a little tough to find where you're going within the park, so arriving with a printed map in hand is strongly recommended.

It appeared to us that several sites were taken up by people who were working somewhere (possibly construction) and only occasionally returning to their rigs to sleep. It's tough to get these waterfront sites, so I wish that weren't the case.

Large, level, quiet sites. Huge park with miles of hiking trails. Clean, well-kept bathhouse. We had a deer feeding right behind our site and loved it. Stone Mountain is a great state park. My only issue is the lack of cell service.

This was our third stay at Stone Mountain, with family joining us this time. We had a great time. This campground is one of the best, and the hikes produce beautiful views and experiences.

I will always give Stone Mountain 5 stars. Clean, beautiful, spacious sites. Unfortunately, our toad broke down on the way, we had to leave it to be fixed, and we ended up this stay with no transportation to get around. The one downfall of Stone Mountain is that you need some means of getting to the trails from the campground. Oh well, we still enjoyed our quiet stay in the campground. Hopefully, we'll have better luck on the next trip, because we'll be back.

Spacious sites with partial hookups. (Non-hookup sites are also available.) There's an abundance of hiking with beautiful views, beautiful waterfalls, and more. It's also totally relaxing to just stay in the campground. You'll need an available vehicle to get to most points within the huge park. Nearest shopping is about 30 minutes away.

No over-the-air TV reception, and very little cell signal.
