not much left - FLATIRON
NAME: Flatiron
COUNTY: Lawrence
ROADS: 2WD
GRID: 1
CLIMATE: Snow in winter-hot in summer.
BEST TIME TO VISIT: Summer. COMMENTS: Much history here.
REMAINS: Not much .
Although there is not much left at Flatiron, it does a storied past. The town was the home of the fabulous Wasp No. 2 gold mine that was discovered in the 1890s. By 1915 it was a bustling mining town with some 30 buildings including a school, some large mills, a post office and several mercantile stores. It was on the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad about 2 miles south of Lead. It even had its own railroad that began and ended within the town itself. At the mine, the ore was moved from the open pit over a standard-gauge railroad and conveyed through the mill by gravity flow. A steep spur railroad line was built from the Burlington up to the mill, and fully loaded freight cars were hauled up by a winch. The Burlington then built a special spur to get to the tailings and shipped thousands of carloads of sand to be used as fill and ballast. In 1927, a violent flood covered the spur, the train, the engine and the engineer with many feet of sand. Eventually the mine played and Flatiron became a ghost town. It is, however, a place that lends itself to the imagination as much as any ghost town in the Hills. You can reach Flatiron from either Kirk or Englewood.
“worth stopping”
Cute little museum. Worth stopping at, but parking is a bit sparse in the area. up the street is a nice visitor center as well.
Was expecting a lot more for $4.00. It's basically one room with a lot of old gas related items. There is nothing to tour. You walk from the Visitor's Center down to the Museum. Outside there are old gas pumps. An attraction for the able bodied.
Crescent Bay is a large cove about ¼ mile in length. It is located where Cliff Drive intercepts North Coast Highway. The beach is a sandy stretch with rocky areas at the north and south ends. Off the north point there is a large rock about 120 yards offshore called Seal Rock because of the seals and sea lions that take refuge there. Note: Rocks may be closed on both north and south end due to high tide and/or large or dangerous surf conditions, making tide pools inaccessible.
This blufftop park has ocean and tide pool views, a grassy area and benches. ... Crescent Bay Point Park. Crescent Bay Drive; Laguna Beac

Greetings,
Thank you for writing a review on Enchanted Springs Ranch. We sincerely apologize for any information you received stating that the ranch was open to the public. In June of 2015, we closed to the public and are now an event venue. The ranch hosts weddings, private events, team building, ISD field trips, etc. During the time you called and stopped in, the ranch was closed due to the holiday season.
In June we changed our website to show that we are an event venue, took all hours of operations down, and listed each type of private event that we now host.
We are open for private parties and business is great. Now that we have our new model in place, please keep checking our website for updated information.
The public loved visiting us and we may try to find a way to open one day a month to allow the general public to pop in and see the old west town.
Thank you for your review,
Enchanted Springs Ranch
