If you want to see the true essence of Geelong take a stroll along the promenade and pool enclosure and on to the botanical gardens and eastern park. These wonderful attractions have provided leisure and fun activities for most of our lifetimes and you can experience first hand how we grew up with these iconic attractions before the days of internet iphones and moderntechnology. Close you eyes and feel the warmth of the sun or the quietness of the park. Look out to the you yangs and the wide expansive bay and simply enjoy what so many people take for granted.

steam packet is a good spot when weather is good as it faces the water front and often see people exercising and walking the front with kids , dogs etc
Its close to many water front restaurants and as the pier and carousel and helicopter rides are available most fine weather days.
Any public events is held on the water front Steam packet Gardens and the area is a great favorite with locals and visitors.
But be warned the Geelong council love to have parking meters every where so check sign before your leave your car

It is a nice walk along the river to some small waterfalls. Dont expect to find a great waterfall when you get there. These are very small waterfalls. The walk is the more exciting part .

This section of the river shows an interesting engineering feat in the channelling of the water to feed a (now removed) waterwheel that once powered the adjacent paper mills. The walking paths wind around beside the river, and offer a pleasant stroll. Recently, there has been some effort to give the old bluestone paper mill buildings a new lease of life, encouraging local art/craft vendors to utilise these amazing old buildings.
