The symbol of the city and the state of Texas. It was the site of a symbolic battle in the Texas war for independence and the final resting place of such heroes as William Travis, Davy Crockett, James Bowie and others.

The Alamo rests in Alamo Plaza downtown. Grounds are free to visitors and open every day except Christmas. Tours must be booked ahead of time. The official audio tour is $7. More visitor information can be found here: https://www.thealamo.org/

San Antonio River Walk

Downtown San Antonio has a street level and then, it has a river level, home of the famous San Antonio River Walk. The walkway is lined with shops and restaurants and there is often live music. Visitors can take a boat tour to see the historical sights along the river. If you happen to come during the holiday season, the River Walk is alive with over 100,000 lights draped among the bald cypress trees on the river banks. It is truly stunning.
