“an urban get-away”
Built for the 1968 HemisFair in honor of the city's 250th anniversary, this delightful park is a local favorite, particularly the water gardens and the kid-designed wood and sand playground, which includes a castle and space tunnel. The highlight is the looming 750-foot tall Tower of the Americas, offering a terrific view of the city.
Hemisfair is one of these parks that any major city would like to have, at least one anyways.
I was surprised with quite a few negative reviews about the place that i read on the net, therefore i decided to visit it in July. Well, just to let you know i really enjoyed the walk in the park with my youngsters. Even though the temperatures were relatively high, summer you see, nevertheless because of the many trees that offer loads of shady spaces as well as sitting next to the beautiful fountains of the park, really felt like a cool experience. Nice paths, nice surroundings, serene environment. While walking in the park do not miss to pop in to the Tower of Americas and get in the elevator all the way to the top. This will give you the chance to enjoy great panoramic views of San Antonio.
I've heard that there is a big project planned to be accomplished by the summer of 2015 creating a great urban park that will become an all-day pole of attraction for locals and tourists. In general, San Antonio is one of my top favorite cities in Texas, so many places to visit and so many things to do!
Really loved walking around the park. Even though part of the huge fountain surrounding the park was off, it is very enjoyable for a couple and even a family. Tag it along with going upstairs to the "Tower of the Americas".
