“a network of walkways along the banks of the San Antonio River”
The San Antonio River Walk is a public park, open 365 days a year. It is a network of walkways along the banks of the San Antonio River, one story beneath approximately 15 miles of downtown San Antonio. Lined by bars, shops and restaurants, the River Walk is an important part of the city's urban fabric and a tourist attraction in its own right. The River Walk winds and loops under bridges as two parallel sidewalks, lined with restaurants, shops, hotels and more. It connects the major tourist draws from the Alamo to Rivercenter Mall, Arneson River Theatre and La Villita, the San Antonio Museum of Art, and the Pearl Brewery.Over 20 events take place on the River Walk every year.
Downtown San Antonio just completely brightens up when you drop down from the street to the River Walk. Mariachis...margaritas...romantic bridges...an awesome ice cream shop...explore and enjoy it!! It's unlike anywhere else. Food-wise, I would recommend visiting Boudros. Bar-wise, Esquire. Experience-wise, take a river barge down the river and get a tour and dinner.
Howeverrr--if the crowded downtown portion of the riverwalk gets too overwhelming, keep walking north! The crowds will thin out, the noise die down, and you'll get a chance to explore another side of San Antonio. Keep walking for a mile and you'll get to the shops/bars/restaurants at the Pearl Brewery, which is a change of pace from downtown and worth exploring!! Here, you'll find more locals and less of a scene targeting tourists. Check out La Gloria for some Mexican Street food, or Blue Box for drinks.
Or, walk South to check out the mission trail!
Definitely the place to go in San Antonio. A nice breath of fresh air from the concrete jungle that is SA. Some of the best bars in town, as well as some very delicious restaurants and live music. Perfect for all ages too!
The Riverwalk is one of the sights in San Antonio. It's also home to some of the best restaurants and bars in SA that I recommend checking out. Or if you aren't looking for that scene, just take a walk and enjoy the sights. The weather is usually fantastic so it's a lot of fun (unless mid-summer when you'll sweat profusely).
I can't say enough about San Antonio's hidden gem. Boat rides, restaurants, music, truly beautiful surroundings, you easily can and should spend a few hours here if you are in San Antonio.
Otherwise plan a visit to San Antonio soon.
I do not recommend it in the high heat of a Texas summer. But 9-10 months out of the year, the weather is fine.
If you want to have a romantic 24 hours, pay $10 for the river taxi. It's totally worth it. If you're a jogger, hit up the Walk early in the morning before the crowds come. Parents be warned, it isn't a particularly stroller-friendly place. Overall, good food, music everywhere, and a great way to spend the day in San Antonio. Ooh, you should also have dinner on a boat. :)
The River Walk was really cool! I only gave it 4 stars tho because it takes half a day to figure out what's going on but once you figure it out you can spend a couple days there. They have a 35 minute boat ride that gives you a tour of the River Walk and you learn a lot of the history, and I highly recommend that so you can get your footing about the area. There are lots of little restaurants and shops along the way also.
If you are thinking of visiting San Antonio for couple of days, the best place to stay at, especially if you are a romantic kind of person, is definitely within the area of San Antonio River Walk !! Oh my, i ve stayed there in July and what a great time i had with my family !!!
Loads of shops, restaurants, hotels, street artists, unbelievably beautiful stone bridges and fountains, ducks, birds, tall trees... this is an urban paradise next to San Antonio river. If in San Antonio, THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE !!! 5* all the way !!
A great place to take a walk. beautiful landscaping along the way. many benches to rest and soak in the beauty and people watch. I travel alone here for work but it would be a great place for a romantic weekend
It's the go-to spot in San Antonio. My friends stationed here with the military first turned me on to the place, and it was everything they said it would be. It's the perfect place to take a stroll or grab a drink.
The River Walk is a must see in San Antonio. It is fantastic.
