We stop bye San Angelo State Park on our way home to see the Bison. We entered the south entrance of the park. Looks to be a nice park but we just drove through. The park seems to be not utilized much. There were areas that look abandoned or not used at all. We didn’t get to see the camping area or the north side of the park.

Beautiful place to stay for three nights. We only stayed two. Take a rake to clean an area from sea weed. You will have an awesome beach front. Stay 5 to 10 feet behind sea weed. The tide does come in while you are asleep. Lol.

Excellent clean sand beach. Lots of locals come in at the evening and light up beach fires. They have portables and a rinse station. Gorgeous sunrise and beautiful jetty. We had a blast watching fishermen and fisherwomen surf fish. The water is clear and fresh. Could get crowded but it clears up by 8 or 9 pm. Star gazing is awesome.

Excellent place to stay. They have full hookups or disperse camping. 50 for dispersed but for an extra 20 get the hookups. Close to the river and downtown Austin. Rent a bike and you get anywhere you want to go. Clean facilities and friendly traveling guests and permanent guest. All the satisfaction of the Austin experience without the outrageous hotel cost.

It’s a kid adventure. The staff have plenty of activities for the kids and family. The staff are always willing to make your stay pleasant. Convenient location to Fredericksburg, Johnson City and Luckenbach. Adventure out to LBJ live farm and museum. As well as Enchanted state park. The RV sites are wonderful with full hookups. If you stay on a site by the creek side, you get to wake up to Doper Sheep. The park could use some water park slides for teens or seniors young at heart. But the staffs Texas hospitality makes up for any adult water ride. Wonderful and relaxing camping resort. Definitely coming back for more adventures.

Earth at its best. Historical and Amazing. Our campsite was wonderful. There are some campsites that had washouts of red earth. Very muddy for some campers. The hike to the Lighthouse is awesome but start early because the sun will get you on the way back. The last quarter mile of the hike is a climb. There are two ways of climbing to the lighthouse. We went right because we were told that was an easier climb. I reckon it was? We will have to go again and take a left to try that climb. Ours seemed a little tough though. We went to the big cave off Juniper road and it was an easy hike. The cave was amazing as well. We found another cave not on the hiking map and that one was outstanding. Very adventurous caves where we crawled though and made our way though tight squeezes. There are couple of areas that the cave opens and holes through the top of the cave allows sunlight in. The colors are remarkable. Finally you reach the top of the cave and you pop out like a prairie dog. Take a good flash light with you and a walking stick. Be careful if you walk down the hill. The ground is unstable in some areas that you might fall down into a hole and find a new cave in a bad way. I reckon that’s why it wasn’t on the trail map.

Stayed one night coming home from Palo Duro Canyon. Nice spaced campsites and we’ll kept. The lake is beautiful but there was a high bacteria alert. I’m glad we read the sign indicating this. (Dangerous). A lightning storm came in that evening and the light show was amazing. Wonderful place to come back too and stay longer. Very relaxing park.

The drive to the park is amazing. Once in the park the views are just as awesome. The Pedernales River is flowing just right to relax in and wonderful for children. Most campsites are shaded but high noon is a heatwave. They only have one electric campground. The stars are amazing on a clear night. Plenty of shooting stars. Plus you get to see the Milky Way. Facilities are well kept but only two for the campground. No sewer hookups but they do have a dump station. Ice and firewood are available with the camp host. Some sights do have your picnic table on the wrong side of your door camper. We had to go in truck first so we could face our campground area. Plenty of wildlife. We were able to videotape pigs and deer. Also the bird watching cabin is awesome as well as their walking plant garden. Oh there is no cell service what’s so ever. You might get a bar at the ranger station.

Very pleasant park south of Austin Airport. Very nice trail with historical sites. The upper falls are amazing. The campsites are spread apart with plenty of privacy. I would come again in the Fall or Spring. Very hot in the summer. Hike early in the summer and venture out to Austin for lunch and return to your campsite in the evening. Just my suggestion to stay away from the heat when camping in the summer Texas heat. Overall this is a well established park with plenty of history behind it.

Did a slight detour to Caprock Canyons on the way to Palo Duro. We are Texas State Park yearly members and our entrance fee was free. We drove to the amphitheater and locked over the canyon. Wonderful area and well kept. Took the scenic drive and the look overs are amazing. Managed to see lots of prairie dogs and the bison were close by the lake. Didn’t get to drive into the campgrounds to review. Wouldn’t mine to camp here in the fall.
