Stopped overnight on way to Austin NV and Big Creek CG. Fairly level. One other overlander with roof top tent deployed. Beautiful stars and moonrise at 2330. Windy.

Slow internet. No camp fires allowed. Seems like it is a bit upscale with lots of very nice RV’s here.
Full hook ups with cable TV included.
Channel scan on OTA was 45 including Fox for Thursday night football.
Overall OK.

Stayed here as part of one leg of a trip Pre-running the Arizona Peace Trail. It is a hell of a long way about 1/2 a tank from anywhere that has fuel. Which put me almost at fuel bingo right from the start. This is a very barren and windy place.

Relatively developed campground on a high elevation wind swept meadow. No Verizon. Water shut off. No reason to pay to stay here many nice unimproved CS nearby. Good location

Tried to stay here on a Sunday/Monday night. Was still busy Sunday afternoon so I continued on to a disperses campsite which was nice. I did not like to look of the people staying there (this is kind of a sketchy area anyway). By Sunday night they were all gone. But I was already set up. So good midweek.

We reserved nearly a year in advance and got what I think is one of the best campsites.
Very scenic and the sound of the waves on the “beach” was nice.
Extra charge for dog and dump station. Not happy about that.
Very cold and windy.
Not walkable to anything.
Nothing to do in the area.
Fire pit too far away from RV parking site.
Oh well at least there is 4 bars of 5G!

There is a new paved road to the CG. It was nearly full on a Wednesday afternoon. There are several waterfront sites but of course they were all taken. The water level was really low making for a hike to the lake even from the closest sites.

Great location only about 5-6 miles to SLO, even closer to the Cal Poly campus.
Nice natural landscape, level sites, 30a and 20a

Not happy about having to pay $13 per night for a car that can’t be towed by the motorhome. This is basically for NOTHING. So chopped off one star for that (would have been a 4).

Starlink worked great 160 mbps.

So about a year ago I made reservations to stay here for the month of January. Because of its popularity I had to cobble together resers for 3 different campsites but all good.
About 2 weeks before my stay, I needed to make some modifications (push back arrival and shorten up my departure). I was then informed that there was a 14 day limit per any 30 days and the “old system” allowed it there was nothing they could do and said just don’t worry about it don’t make any changes and they probably won’t notice. I was eventually able to change it up online to be in compliance and book some other campsites (Tucson Mountain Park for example).
Well it’s good that I did because of some steady light rain Catalina’s only access road is “flooded” and closed. So the campers there have been trapped for 4 days and I’ve been locked out for de facto 5 days. They have one pathetic front end loader trying to clear the road for 3 days (presumably 24hr/d) and refuse to ask for help from excavation contractors, rock quarry, or DOT.

Won’t be back.
Yes it’s scenic but I hate hiking, sites have no sewer hook ups, they don’t allow campfires.
Good proximity to Tucson with lots of fast food and sit down restaurants that have decent happy hours was the main draw for me.
