You'd best read the fine print...there is the rate and then add the "platform fee" and of course tax but if you're reserving on line there is the non refundable "Rover Pass" fee of $8. No I would not reserve this place again. What unknown fees might await ?

Read the fine print and it is small. Even if you cancel many weeks before reservations they keep a full days rate....so I'm out $70. No, I won't reserve here again. You never know when a trip has to be rescheduled or cancelled.

If you stay at Alice Lake campground just know some sites are tiny and close together...while half of the campground has generous...really more than generous sites. All have water, electric and sewer. Today the water is marked boil but speaking to the camp hosts it turns out its safe but may or may not have a chlorine imbalance....so, I'll shower and fill my trailer tank. Maybe bottled to drink, just for peace of mind.

Very nice park. I'll stay here again. I do question the intent of the person downrating the park on the basis of internet service. Yellowstone has spotty internet too !

Its November now and Madera canyon is gorgeous but it, like almost all of Big Bend Ranch, is dusty.
The vegetation away from the river is largely brush/small trees with little shade. And dust....camping away from the ocean, in the dry sand dunes would be a good example of camping here. There are a lot of boondocking sites but you will be tested here, especially in the hot months...usually May through September. The road is rough so be aware of that. Big RVs and trailers will find hard going. That said, the park has gorgeous view after gorgeous view. A photo awaiting hanging around every corner. The hiking is varied and great tho only three trails allow dogs. The Contrabando trail is actually a system of trails, many miles long. Not for the novice due to heat, no water, terrain and presence of rattle snakes, bears and mountain lions. No AT&T and probably no any other service. Nearest medical help appears to be in Terlingua. An option for non boon dockers is a very nice commercial RV park in Lajitas. Lajitas is a very good base as to positioning. There is one grocery but it is amazingly overpriced. Example: Oreos, over $8. There is gas in Lajitas but I'm not sure if propane is available. Terlingua...just a beautiful 20 minutes away from Lajitas, has reasonable groceries and a few cafes. In this area everything is a long way from everything else so watch you gas. You should know. Every trail requires a permit. $20 at the Park headquarters (Barton Warnock), about 2 miles outside Lajitas. You can get permit envelopes there and drop them and money in slots at most trailheads. According to the web, the fine for no permit seems to be, well, a LOT. Lajitas is usually pronounced LAH he tass.

This was a really nice spot I think, many years ago. Very little sign of maintainence with high grass and lots of muddy puddles. Campsites are just in middle of field, not paved, not gravel. It's also way out in the middle of nowhere and I'm uncertain how secure it is. Only one other camper there even though it was Memorial Day weekend.

Canyon and Norris are reserved now through yellowstonenationalparklodges.com also known as Xanterra. I reserved through them before and they are helpful and polite but last check the sites were 39 for a site with no Golden Age senior discount. If you go to the recreation.com site it will refer you to web site and phone no

A bit dusty, but thats Texas in early May. Nice with large trees and much more possibility For some reason the city has elected to put a small green area down the center with back in's on each side with some pull throughs. A more logical approach might be to reduce some of the mostly unused center section for a couple of more pull throughs and use the far right of the park under some great shade trees to cultivate a grassy area....so much wasted space as the right drive in is probably 40 feet or more wide at times. Still, a nice place to stop with water and electricity. There is a highway nearby but traffic dies away about sunset.

We stayed here last year and it was ok although it needed TLC then. This time we arrived after a long drive not noticing the four trailers there were empty and looked like long term storage. One had been there so long, the cover of a plastic tarp had rotted apart. One trailer was parked in the dump station using it as his personal sewer. It didn't help my attitude when after midnight I see someone with a flashlight going through one of the empty trailers. No I would not stay here again, Whats wrong city of Littlefield ? The neighboring ball fields look perfectly groomed.
