The Raton Pass Camp and Cafe is a campground located north of Raton just off I-25 at the top of Raton Pass, New Mexico. Soak in the panoramic views of the Savage Canyon, home to gambel oak, pinion and ponderosa pine, and while you're sitting outside keep your eyes open for the wildlife that calls Raton Pass home. There are bears, mule deer, elk, wild turkeys and scores of beautiful hummingbirds. Our sites are packed level gravel with scenic large back-ins, pull thrus, extra long pull thrus, and budget friendly small back-ins that support 30/50 amp sites. Our clean manicured property will keep you coming back year after year. For the 2020 season our showers and toilets are closed but the laundry is available. Given our convenient location, visitors can take advantage of nearby attractions such as: Capulin Volcano National Monument Trinidad Lake State Park Sugarite State Park Fisher's Peak State Park Whether its for a short and or long term stay, we hope to see you soon!

Confirmed by 2 users | Last reported on April 18, 2023Stopped here as an overnight on the way back home. Greeted by the most friendly of staff. Escorted us to our site. Clean, great hookups and a spectacular view from such a high vantage point. Restrooms great condition. Would stay here again!
Stopped here at 10:30pm one nite and my space and paperwork were ready needed to rest badly so in the morning as I awoke, I was pleasantly amazed at the beautiful view this place has Nice clean and super chill
The weather was beautiful. The campground is very clean and so are the restrooms. The restrooms had laundry and showers. The sites all have beautiful views of the mountains.

Restrooms seemed brand new. Very clean and fresh. Good views of the mountains. Although we were right off of I25 we seldom heard any traffic noise.

The owners/managers of this "camp and cafe" were not present at all during our stay. They emailed our site number the day of our arrival. The place was a muddy mess. There is NO CAFE here, despite the website you're directed to upon making a reservation which says, falsely, that you won't need to go anywhere for anything because they've got food right there. All around the building looked like Bubba's shack in a holler' in Possum Trot - dead appliances everywhere, vehicles that never moved, etc. No signs of life in the "office" building at all, the entire time we were there (which we cut short.) Their miserable excuse for a "dog walk" is a short path covered with wood chips (can you say splinters?) across a muck-filled ditch from the driveway. The bathrooms were never cleaned during our stay - not shocking since no employee set foot there the whole time. I can't believe Good Sam would endorse this campground if they knew how it was actually "managed." The photos don't show that beneath the cliff you're backed up to at your site is the freeway, so there is constant noise. When we were there (May 2019) the freeway was under construction and in order to merge onto 25 southbound you had to negotiate a blind turn and merge onto the freeway without being able to see traffic coming downhill behind you in your lane at full speed. There are pretty long-range views, and you're not far from Trinidad. And cell signal was good. Those are the only positives about this place.

We came in late owners were very accommodating. Easy to find pull thru full hook up. The bathrooms were some of the cleanest I have ever seen almost wish I were not just passing through.

Never left review like this, but never treated so badly! Extremely confrontational owner (Rhonda). I called to ask about New Mexico COVID self quarantine rules put in place on July 1 (yesterday), she completely blew up (she said she had about 35 calls already today). Became belligerent and unilaterally said she was going to cancel our reservations. When I calmly said that's not what I wanted (just wanted information), she said, "Too bad, I have been dealing with this all morning and have others who want to camp here." Tried to talk her "off the cliff" and be reasonable, but she just hung up and left us hanging. Supposedly, she has cancelled our reservations on her own.
Based on other reviews on other sites, this lady is very moody and volatile. These are tough times, but she is extremely emotional and not handling it well.
She wouldn't answer any call backs, so left a message for her letting her know I understand she's having a bad day , but to please call us back and discuss it responsibly. No response yet. She may be nice normally, but when she has a bad day, you do not want to get caught up in it. Pass on this drama!

We found this campground to be exceptional! Very clean bathroom & shower, plus washers & dryers.
There’s a wonderful dog walk BEHIND the campground with a playground area for the kids.
The grounds were immaculate, and we
loved all the yard art.
This is sure to be a favorite for us in the future.
Not sure about the whinny people who wrote poor reviews about this campground, while trying to survive during Covid but our experience was excellent!

We opted to pay more for a back on site with a view. It was so worth it! The view was so pretty out of our back windows! The staff was so helpful. The only downside was that the WiFi was spotty. You do have noise from the interstate but it isn’t bad in the RV. They do want you to be there before sundown to keep it quiet at night. We had a great experience there and would absolutely return! Verizon is spotty but you can make a call. Just might drop it also! Others said AT&T was good there.
