Love this campground! Our site was awesome with a great view! The park employees are really helpful. Trolley to downtown Durango made life easier, no parking challenges. We would stay again.
We stayed three days. Rode the train toured around Durango. Never moved our truck. Ride the trolley for a dollar a person into town. I don’t understand the negative reviews this is a great place to stay. You get what you pay for.

Do you have children? Do they love trains?
No?
What's wrong with your kids?
If you've got young boys like mine, honest American patriots who love trains like campfire smoke loves eyeballs, then you'll absolutely probably kinda like this place!
There is little else to report, except an old time trolley that you can catch somewhat regularly down into Durango proper, which is a very cool town full of bars and breweries and toy shops and the kind of laid back vibe one might expect from most Colorado towns but which is often lacking in this corner of the Centennial State.
Oh and I also saw an old Indian riding an even older Indian motorcycle, all while wearing a getup I'm sure came straight out of Slash's wardrobe.

United Campground in Durango is set in the woods with beautiful views AND all the amenities you would want while camping.
Initially we booked just one night at United in Oct. 2014 coming on a recommendation from two or three other previous campers. It was getting towards the end of season and a few of the Durango campgrounds were closed. I left a voicemail for the office and received a prompt call back notifying me that they'd hold a site in our name. The location was easy to find and not too far from downtown. Our one night stay turned in to three because we were having such a great time in Durango. The staff was very accommodating of our request. The grounds were clean, there was lovely shade trees all throughout, and great views. The Durango-Silverton historic passenger train comes right through the middle of camp bringing many campers to gather `round, take photos, and wave. (The train comes through in the later morning and early evening and is only a few cars long. It usually only honks it's horn once or twice. It's nostalgic, not an annoyance.) RV spots with full hook up were towards the front of camp and tent camping was in the back half of camp on the other side of the train tracks. The bathrooms were clean and not crowded - three shower stalls and three toilet stalls in the main building. The second bathroom location was closed for season but that did not pose any problems. I used the laundry facility and was a little dismayed that two separate dryers didn't completely dry my clothes. They have a machine to exchange dollars for quarters and laundry soap for sale. There is a pool, though closed in the winter, and a game room that we did not visit. Supplies are on hand if you need basic toiletries or souvenirs in their shop at the main desk. Wifi was EXCELLENT - fast and reliable. There is an on-site trash dumpster but no recycling. United Campgrounds is definitely a place I would recommend and would stay there again should we ever find ourselves in Durango.
Several of the Durango Silverton steam powered trains pass through the campground in the morning and evening. Fun to watch. A trolley bus stops on the road adjacent to the campground every 20 minutes and will take you to downtown Durango. Sites close to the highway have moderate traffic noise. One pedestal serves adjacent sites so one RV is always parked close to the pedestal. The trailer next to us was about 6 feet away. Fortunately neither of us had slides or tried to put out an awning. Laundry room looked clean although we did not use.

We stayed here on July 21. Busy RV park with clean showers, shady sites and convenient to Durango. All amenities as expected. Would stay there again.

I stayed here with my RPOD for two nights in August while taking the Durango-Silverton RR. The site I had, was a back-in right behind the office which is up on a hill. It wasn't the most attractive site, but it worked for my purposes. The bathhouse is brand new and very well maintained. Wifi was weak with no throughput in the evening. FYI, the price I quote includes all taxes.
