We stayed here only because we have friends in the area AND the other campground in the vicinity got worse reviews. This was probably a nice campground once upon a time. But obviously the current owners don't care. They are just collecting the campground fees and not keeping up the property. Their website may list amenities, but don't believe them. The term "resort" is a misnomer. 90% of the sites are occupied by permanent residents, some sites were neat, some were junky.

I made the reservations over the phone to arrive on a Saturday. The fee of $40 per night is way overpriced for this place. When we arrived, the office was closed. I called the phone number on the door and got a recording. There was not an arrival packet waiting for us. I had to look up my confirmation email to see what site we were on. We never did see the park owners during the 48 hours we were there.

Access to the campground is pretty good, it's right off I-69. The road noise can be loud. Try to get a spot at the back of the property, it is a bit quieter there. Our site #13 was at the back and our door faced a field and had a tree. But we had to look at a dead tree and a junky seasonal site on the other side.

Our 50 amp power was good. Thank goodness, it was hot and we wanted the power for the A/Cs. Otherwise we probably would have found a Walmart. The utilities are oddly placed, but we made do. We didn't hook up to water or use the sewer.

The swimming pool is still empty and falling apart. The dump station had a pile of gravel placed in the middle of it. There was not way to get to it! The playground was overgrown with weeds.

Over the air TV signal was excellent, coming out of Fort Wayne. Verizon and ATT were both good. We didn't bother trying the campground WiFi.

So, stay here if you need a quick overnight or have a reason to be in the area. Beyond that, there is no compelling reason to stop

All the RV parks in Van Horn are basically gravel parking lots. We opted for this one because of the Passport American rate. The park is bisected by a local road. If you stay on the office/restroom side of the road, you might have a shade tree. We opted to say on the other side of the road because of the ease of getting in and out.

We didn't use any of the facilities, so I can't speak on those. But we did make heavy use of the cable TV and the WiFi. Both were excellent. We had over 40 channels of cable, including HBO. With the park half full, the WiFi was plenty fast.

Be prepared for blowing dust if it is windy.

All in all, for $13.50 a night, we would definitely stay here again if in the area.

We used this campground as a base camp for exploring Sequoia National Park. We arrived around 6:00 and our reserved spot was waiting for us. The usual "follow the golf cart to your site" scenario didn't happen because the person had gone home already. But we had not problem finding our site.

Our 40' RV just fit on our pull-through site. We had to park the car on the grass.

The site are dirt with some grass. There is cable TV, but ours wasn't working. That was actually OK, because there were plenty more channels on OTA television than on cable. I didn't complain, but let them know when I left.

The WiFi steady, if not slow. If you have a Verizon MiFi, the speeds are in excess of 30 Mbps.

We tried the pool. Let's call it refreshing...so much so we were only in it for 5 minutes. A solar cover would help warm it up.

So, no real complaints. It's a KOA. You get what you expect.

This campground is a hidden gem! I am betting it is packed in the summer with families.

Note...this campground no longer takes Passport America.

The campground roads are gravel. In the full hookup area, you are parked on a 3" high concrete pad (pull through) with a concrete patio. We had trouble maneuvering our 40 foot RV on to the pad, we didn't want the tires to slip off the 3" ledge and there were trees to work around. It took a good deal of back and forth to get situated. But once in place, it was just fine. The sites were nicely spaced. Each site also has a cute charcoal grill.

The electric and water only sites are closer to the river and packed tighter together. You are parked on gravel. There are also a lot of trees for shade. A big rig would probably not fit.

There are also a lot of cabins available for rent. I didn't peer into any of these.

Other amenities include a pool (not heated in April, although open...a heated pool would have given this place five stars) and a splash pad for kids. There are multiple playgrounds. There is also river access. They have a driving range and a putting green.

There is NO VERIZON in this campground. A Tracfone (a flip phone no less) on AT&T's towers would give 2 bars of 3G about half the time. But AT&T must work, the owner had an iPhone 6 that he uses.

There were 5 channels of over the air TV, all from the ION lineup. If you want QVC or HSN, you are all set.

I can't address the speed of the WiFi in the campground. They had had a lightening strike the week before our arrival that took out their cable modem, We could easily see the hotspots from our coach, but there wasn't any service. The campground office did have WiFi which we utilized, but it was slow at times. And we were the only ones there in early April.

We would have spent a week here, but the lack of easily accessible Internet made getting any work done impossible. This is not the campground's fault...blame Mother Nature. The owner was very gracious about returning our money for the remainder of our stay when we decided to leave early because of the Internet issues.

There is some road noise

The laundry room was clean. $1.00 for a wash and $1.25 for a dry. I was surprised that there were only two washers and two dryers.

This was a gorgeous place to stay and admire the hills. I wish we could have stayed longer.

We stayed here because of our Passport America discount. This campground is yet another typical Thousand Trails park. About half the sites are filled with seasonal or long term campers. That means they have all their associated "stuff" with them cluttering the campsites. I found having to stare at all that clutter unappealing.

The roads in the campground are mostly paved. Sites are nestled in the trees which is nice. But because the campground is built on a slope, most sites gravel and are not level. Be prepared for that. Unless you have a high end leveling system, you are going to need blocks.

Check in was strange...at least in the off season. The campground office is a split level house on your right as you pull into the campground. You have to go into the living room and find whoever is on duty.

There is a snack bar and an in-ground pool. Both seem nice..but were closed due to our off season visit.

I was told there was no WiFi, even though I could see a Tengo network. Verizon 4G was excellent. OTA television yielded 10 stations. NBC and Fox were the primary stations. ABC came in occasionally. CBS was non-existent.

The campground borders a gun range. In the evenings and weekends you heard a lot of shooting. If it bothers you, make sure you pick a spot on the opposite end of the campground. You will still hear the shots, just not as loud.

Very well landscaped campground. Neat gravel lots. Definitely pay extra to get a view site overlooking the city, it is worth it. Note, when it says it is a "Pull in/Back out" site, that is not and OR. It and an "AND". You Pull in to the site, then have to unhook your toad and back out to leave. Regardless, the view makes it worth it. Excellent cable tv channels. Good Verizon service.

This campground is a was a KOA in a former life. The new owner, Whitney (very nice young lady), has taken down all the KOA structures, is utilizing the existing pads, has built some new facilities, and is breathing life back into this small campground.

The campground is easy to access off of I-55. Pads are all gravel. There are a few pull throughs, but the majority are back-in sites. The surrounding grounds are grass. They had had heavy rains before we arrived. Due to the rain coupled with some digging work done around our sewer connection hooking up our utilities was a muddy mess. But don't let that deter you...it will dry out.

90% of the campsites are occupied by long term residents. Fortunately, nothing was junky looking and everyone was quiet and respectful. Unfortunately, I-55 adjacent to the campground is not quiet. The road noise is very obvious.

When checking in, Whitney will either meet you there to take apyment (credit card, cash, check) or there is a self pay station at the small office.

The campground has a swing set, a beautiful covered porch for large gatherings, and a new laundry facility. I didn't not get the door code to the bathrooms, so I could not check them out. The WiFi provided a respectable 5 Mbps down. You can pick up 18 OTA TV channels, including NBC and ABC. Verizon and ATT both worked well.

If you need to spend a night somewhere, there is no reason to not stop here. Whitney will take care of you. As work continues on the campground, it will only get better.

This is an Escapees Co-Op park. It is owned by the residents. Only Escapee members are allowed to stay here. We were here late in the season and had no trouble getting onto a lot where the member had left already. I could see there being an issue if it were high season. I could call first in that case. If this is your first time staying in the park, your first week is 55% off (some exclusions...see the website). You pay for your own electric. We spent about $20 in electric during our 12 days, with the A/C running during the afternoons. NOTE: You have to be there by 4:30 to get a spot. The office (staffed by work-kampers) closes then. In addition to full hook-up sites, there are also some dry camping available.

The people here are the nicest you will find., Everyone says Hi. We were invited right off to their evening Happy Hour (more of a news of the day in 15 minutes event). We were made to feel very welcome.

Entry into the park could be tricky, it's not very well marked. Visit the park's website for maps. Once there, the roads are paved. The sites are large. Some have concrete pads, some are gravel...it depends upon what the site's owner has installed. Almost all have a little building in the back that the owners use as a living room or storage shed by the owners (not by us visitors).

The clubhouse is large and has an extensive library with books and DVDs. The laundry room is clean and large and cheap! It was $1 to wash and $.75 to dry.

The WiFi worked wonderfully, just don't abuse it by streaming Netflix. Verizon Cellular was WONDERFUL! The OTA TV from San Antonio worked OK. Fox and CW came in just fine. NBC and CBS would work if you adjusted your antenna just right. ABC was a no-go.

There is a dog run. There are also daily activities you are invited to join in (Bingo, Dominos, etc.)

San Antonio is about 40 minutes away. We enjoyed a tour of the Toyota Factory while there. The campground staff has lots of good recommendations for dining in the area.

The owners of this KOA are wonderful people. We had a plumbing issue with our coach and they gave us the parts to fix it, for which we were very grateful. However, the property is starting to show it's age. The bathrooms could use a remodel. If you are in a self contained RV, I would stay here. But if you need to use their facilities, I would go elsewhere. Verizon cell signal was strong, and my MiFi worked better than the camp WiFi. OTA television was good.

We needed a place to stay for the night while traveling I-10 in our motorhome. This place fit the bill. We reserved our spot via phone and were asked if we would be there before 4:00. I suspect if you were after 4:00, an envelope would be on the door with your site information. Regardless, check-in was friendly and speedy. We were escorted to our site. Verizon signal was good. The cable TV didn't have local channels, but had enough to keep us entertained. The RV Park is tucked in behind a truck stop and a hotel, but that was fine by us. We felt safe, the road noise wasn't bad. If we were to pass this way again, we would definitely stop again.
