Nice picnic area & swimming area but this a day use only area. Really pretty and has a hiking trail that connects with the Ouachita National Recreation Hiking Trail. Can’t remember exactly how the sign was worded but basically “closes at dark”. US Forest ranger said no overnight parking here and no disbursed camping in any developed areas of the Ouachita National Forest including the trailhead parking lots. I will add because of the low lying limbs you don’t want to come in to the park itself if in a motor home or towing a trailer. The parking area is tight and not easy to maneuver. I recommend if here for day use then park out by Hwy 7.

Now a local person at the day use area told me you can overnight park in the nearby Hollie CCC camp historic site parking lot further north on Hwy 7 because it is open 24 hours and it has a vault toilet. I stopped for a visit but eased on down the road. Here is the web link for the Iron Springs day use area. https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/ouachita/recarea/?recid=10771

I was heading to the Hot Springs area then further north. Was just looking for a place to rest for the night and saw a sign on Hwy 7. I pulled in late afternoon but liked it so much I stayed several nights. Nice campground. Convenient to a mountain bike trail system. I stayed in the campground loop on the ridge not the one near the lake. Very quiet and peaceful up there with a beautiful view overlooking the lake. I didn’t use the bathhouse so can not comment on it. It’s not far off Hwy 7 and not too far from I30. Would definitely recommend and return.

People were occupying the sites in a way that even though some sites are double they parked on one end and threw up camp chairs etc. to make the whole thing “their” site. As a single woman traveling I’m not going to demand that people do the right thing. I eased on down the road after stopping at Rich Mountain and slept at the Cracker Barrel just north of Tupelo.

I tracked north on the Natchez Trace. I stopped at the campground around 3:00 p.m. People were occupying the sites in a way that even though some sites are double they parked on one end or in the middle and threw up camp chairs etc. to make the whole thing “their” site or perhaps they were holding the space for their friends to join them later? I did stop and ask four different people if I could back in or share the site (all were identified on the map as double sites) and I was ignored or just told to go look for another site. As a single woman traveling with just a little dog I’m not going to demand that people do the right thing nor am I going to barge my way in. I eased on down the road after stopping at Rich Mountain and slept at the Cracker Barrel just north of Tupelo. As far as campground appearance the campground is more sloped than Rocky Springs campground nearer to Natchez and I would imagine that makes getting level more difficult. I prefer Rocky Springs to this one.

We pulled in late at night so we selected a pull through site. It was nice and quiet and one of the few pull through sites that isn’t right by the road. They have some very nice sites. I would definitely stay here again.

I was in a pull through site, no water hookups, electricity only sites. You are close to the road and some campers ignored the camper length and were extended out into the road. My son loved it for the fishing and we would definitely return. It was a holiday weekend but people weren’t rowdy, very respectful of others.

I arrived late on a Saturday afternoon. Got a great back in site that was very level. Walked around after setting up. The campground was full but peaceful and quiet. So many people seemed to be enjoying themselves. Many traveling the Trace or the South in general. Enjoyed the walk to the church and abandoned town. Very quiet location. I would have stayed a second night here but I was having issues with the refrigerator so I left earlier than I would have liked. Hope to make it back one day.

Large, spacious and level campground sites are spread out and very private. Bathroom is a bit rustic but clean with hot shower. Great place to ride bicycles. Really enjoyed our stay here. Very convenient to Hwy 49. Not far from Gulfport, Mississippi.

This is a US Forest campground just north of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. After driving hours in the rain I was so happy to find this place and pull in for the night. Nice level site with lots of space between me and other campers. I walked around with my leashed dog after the rain stopped and could really see what a nice and pretty place this is. Has Water and electric hookups. Has a bathhouse but I used my own bathroom in the RV so can’t comment on the bathhouse. I would definitely return and stay again. There’s a dump station conveniently located on your way out of the park.

I was exhausted after driving in the rain. Still miles from my intended stop I was thrilled to see this US Forest campground and stopped. Nice large and level sites for only $20/night. Has both electric and water hookups at each site. Campground is very nice and peaceful. When you’re outside your RV I did hear some road noise as the campground is right off busy US 49 and I was in the site at the very front of the campground closest to the highway but inside my RV it was nice and quiet. Large campground with lots of space between sites. I would definitely recommend this place and would love to come back and stay longer. I pulled in late afternoon and left the next morning so my only outdoor experience here was to take a long walk around the campground when there was a break in the rain.
