Dockery Park is a nice, quiet, and well maintained location. There are only 2 RV sites with a handful of tent sites around the perimeter of the park (with 15 amp plug in's). The two RV sites have 30 amp plug ins and water connections. The water pressure is strong so I recommend a pressure regulator! The sites are on top of a hill next to a beautiful gazebo and a small pond. There is a dumpster and vaulted toilet about 15 yards from the site. There is a large playground in the park, as well as a baseball field and soccer field near by. Just outside the park is a Dollar General and a small market called Dungy's, which has really great prices! There are no fire rings but one site does have a picnic table. The large tree next to the RV sites has a porch swing hanging from a large limb and it was my favorite place to be while we at the site.

Overall, I highly recommend this place and encourage you to park it here if you ever come through the area.

This is a large open field that is well shaded by the pines. It is located on an abandonded Army base and is very popular with horse back riders who ride the trails exploring the old base. One of the regulars informed us that this location can get very busy on the weekends, especially on holiday weekends.

Any size rig should be able to fit at this location without issue. There are zero amenities but the area is quite and the trail riders are friendly.

First and foremost, the 1/4 mile distance from main road is heavily enforced. The distance is measured 'as the crow flies' and NOT by the driving distance from the turn off. We had a chat with a park ranger who asked us to please include this information in any reviews we may write and told us that park rangers will not hesitate to give citations to those who do not comply with the 1/4 mile rule.

We tried to make it further back but the sand was WAY too soft. We had to turn around and even that was difficult with the trailer. We ended up at a tiny pull off right on the corner at the top of the hill, and even then, we were on the edge of the 1/4 mile limit. Because of our location, the ranger asked that we only stay for one night and either move farther up the trail or move on completely the following day.

This site is not suitable for large rigs... or anything more than tents really. While the location is very convenient, we will not be returning to this location due to the access difficulties.

We stayed at this location in April of 2018.

Big rigs beware if you are coming from the north. The road leading to Sam's Throne is not really suitable for any thing over 30 feet. There are a hand full of narrow switch backs and a pretty steep incline. The campground itself doesn't have much room for rigs bigger then 30 feet anyway.

If you are able to get up here, it is worth the trip. The sites themselves aren't much to look at but with just a short hike (less than an 1/4 mile), the views are really incredible This place seems to be popular with rock climbers and wilderness seekers alike.

Most sites are meant for tents but there are few that can handle smaller RV's. There are vault toilets located in the camping area.

We wanted to stay so much longer at this quiet location but had to hit the road again. We will be back!

There are 9 sites with water and electric hook up for $12 per night. There is also a separate primitive area for tents only, for $8 per night ($20 for a group). The modern sites each have a fire ring and a picnic table, and 3 or 4 of them have a small pavilion of sorts to provide shade. The covering on these structures is to provide shade ONLY and will not keep you dry in the event of rain. Each site has a gravel pad and they all vary in how level they are, but none of them are terrible. From what I could tell, there was only one vaulted toilet and it is all the way at the end of the road, directly next to site #9. Within the area there are some nice, simple hiking trails, as well as a frisbee golf course, a pond, and a couple covered picnic areas. Additionally, this campground is horse friendly with both a barn and small pens near the primitive camping area.

The town of Ottumwa is about 15 minutes away and has just about anything you would need. We were lucky enough to come through during their Oktoberfest celebration and enjoyed some live music, good beer, and delicious brats!

The one thing this campground is lacking is mature tress in the camping area. If you are someone who likes to park your rig in the shade, this park is not for you. Otherwise, this place is great and we would stay here again in a heartbeat.

First we tried Haystack Rd. We rolled into camp via US 2 (a beautiful drive BTW) around 4:00 PM to find that all but one site was occupied. The only remaining spot was under a canopy of trees (no solar power), had almost no cell coverage (can't get any work done) and had a large ditch in the driveway so we couldn't maneuver the camper in, no matter how hard we tried.

Fortunately, I knew that Gale River Loop Rd was near by but, according to this and other websites, there was NO cell coverage at all. We figured we would grab a spot and only stay for a night or two and then move on to a new location that suited our needs.

As we rolled down the road we happened upon this beauty! A wide open space with great 4G LTE coverage. We stayed for 14 nights (the maximum allowed time) and checked out many of the hiking trails within walking distance of our site.

The town of Bethlehem is just 10 mins north and has everything you might need. There is also a Walmart in Littleton just 20 mins away.

While in the area, we saw two bears, one of which crossed just a mile from our site... so be aware and prepared to store your food items away. I would also recommend hiking with some bear mace handy.

Site #3 is ideal for larger rigs (can easily fit 50+ feet) and those using solar power. There are other large sites if sun isn't a necessity for you.

Wide open space with plenty of room for even the biggest of rigs. Please be aware that this location is a trail head for quite a few bike trails, so there are people coming and going, especially on a nice day. We were able to ride a few of the trails while we were there and they are very well maintained.
We had great cell service on both AT&T and Verizon. I may have mis-read but I think the stay limit at this location is 7 nights. If we are back in the area, we will. definitely stay again.

Once you make it up the gravel road, drive past the Mt. Roosevelt hiking trial (pit toilets available at this location) to get to the good pull off sites. There are a few options available for all types of rigs (big and small). We choose the first pull off on the left past the hiking trail. It was a large u-shaped drive with plenty of room for a big rig with another smaller pull off along the side that can easily fit a large class C or smaller. The views are beautifully breathtaking and it is very quite. It’s a 10 minute drive to Deadwood, 20 minutes to Lead, and 23 mins to Spearfish. There is so much to do and see in the area and this is a great home base. We have fallen in love with this area and can’t wait to return.

There are 12 marked campsites down the road with a round-a-bout at the end. The turn around may be difficult for larger/ taller rigs but I don't think it would be impossible... when in doubt, scout ahead on foot. Larger rigs will have the most luck in sites 9, 10, 11, and 12. That being said, we did see some bigger rigs in the early sites but it was a TIGHT squeeze. In addition to the 12 designated sites there are some smaller pull offs that are cleared out but are technically not campsites. I don't believe that there are any sites that are completely level, so be prepared for that. The dirt road is rough with some larger pot holes but I don't think 4 wheel drive is necessary. Most of the the sites that we explored seemed to be pretty clean, except for site 12 which was trashed with shot gun shells, clay pigeons, bottles, etc. We tried to pick some of it up but there was still a significant amount left.

There are a bunch of downed trees branches that make great firewood but you should be aware of fire conditions in the area. This location is full of very dry trees, branches, and bushes and I can imagine that it would go up like a match with even the smallest ember.

While we did have 2 to 3 bars of 4G LTE service with Verizon, we still had painfully slow Internet speeds.

The location is only 1 mile from Mesa Verde National Park, 10 minutes form downtown Cortez, and about 15 minutes to Mancos. The surrounding towns are small but full of stuff to do.

We really love it out here! There is plenty of space for every shape and size of rig. The views are unbeatable and it is so incredibly quite! We parked our travel tailer at the furtherest point we could and, let me tell you, the bumpy ride is well worth the trip!

Fair warning, the road is rough and bigger rigs may find themselves in an area that they wouldn't be able to turn around in. Be sure to scout ahead at this location! Additionally, there are very few spots that are going to be level... have your levelers ready to stack!

Overall, Stewarts Point is a great boondocking site and we will camp here again if we are ever in the area!
