The other reviews were spot on! Dirt road and you will see yellow no cutting wood sign. First few spots weren't difficult to see and get to. The further you drove the rutted It got. It wasn't bad for us in a landcruiser and off road trailer but could see it getting difficult if the dirt was wet. We arrived on a Tuesday evening and we think there might have been 6 others camping in the area. It's a great place to camp it you want and can dry camp. 5 minutes from Mesa Verde NP.

We stayed here in our 32' Class C in late April without problem. The dirt road is very hard packed if it is dry, and the sites are a variety of sizes most of them very unlevel. We had a bit of trouble fitting in somewhere and getting level, but made it work. It was very quiet here Mon - Fri with just us and a ton of vans camped out. Friday morning we were leaving anyway but it was starting to pick up with weekenders.

Tons of trash everywhere here, among the worst we've seen yet.

This is a delightful little slice of BLM land east of Cortez and less than two miles from the entrance to Mesa Verde National Park. For the life of me, I can't understand why people would insist upon paying for a spot in the crowded National Park campground (without even hookups at most sites) when this is far prettier, absolutely free, I can't see or hear any neighbors, and I have to comply with virtually no rules.

I suppose it's a good thing that this site isn't signed in any way whatsoever.Yeah, the road is a bit rutted but not bad at all. We drove all the way to the end where there's a gate to private land. Turning around a 23' trailer (26' overall) was a little tricky because a tree branch prevents an RV from using the loop at the gate, but it still only took two swings and we got back to site #9. This entire hill is a treasure trove of firewood. We're happy, and our unleashed dogs are happy.

Sites are numbered with markers 1 through 12. The road has a small turnaround at the end with a gate to private property and signs that indicate cameras are watching the end of the road. Access was slow, the road is hard packed and slightly rutted with most of the ruts where a metal drainage pipe passes under the road past site 5(ish). I would not recommend attempting this road if there is rain or snow in the forecast for the average rig. I would also recommend light and medium to small vehicles. Some sites require extra ground clearance but most do not. If you plan on staying short term grab the first few sites in, if your in a tent, even better. There is some road noise but after dark it got quiet while I was there. I initially setup in site 7, then walked up to find sites 11 and 10 are pull through and very close together. Since few people were there I snagged 10 and I got lucky that nobody pulled into site 11 during the night. In the morning almost all sites were full. Leaving was very slow and since I was going extra slow as to not wake anyone up. Overall this was a good location and my first BLM camping. I would recommend it but would advise people to not leave things unattended there since this location receives a deceptive amount of traffic. Best of all, T-Mobile LTE worked for me there in both sites 7 and 10 without a booster.

This place is really easy to find. The road is rough but just go slow and take it easy. Sites 9, 10, 11, and 12 would work the best for RVs. The driveways on these sites don’t have a deep dip from the road. Plenty of dead wood on the ground for campfires. Fire rings at the site. Views of the Mesa. Water available at the visitor center, but just for bottles and jugs. Decent cell service.

We stayed here two nights while visiting the national park, it was so close and great that it was free. We arrived later on a Thursday evening and while the first few sites were full, we were able to get site 8 to ourselves. Road is easy to find and bumpy getting in but not impassable. We were in a SUV with a cargo hitch mount and cleared it relatively easily. The "driveway" into our site (and a few others) was very steep so that was a challenge. Site was a bit sloped, but wasn't too much of an issue since we were sleeping in the car. There were trees/shrubs edging the site, which was nice for privacy, but it was open to those passing on the road. Lots of traffic coming through on Friday night in early October. There was a fire ring and the site was pretty spacious. Water is available close by in the park. Would definitely stay here again.

This place was great. A bit uneven but plenty of room to stretch out. Very pet friendly as Zeus had a ball sniffing around!

There are 12 marked campsites down the road with a round-a-bout at the end. The turn around may be difficult for larger/ taller rigs but I don't think it would be impossible... when in doubt, scout ahead on foot. Larger rigs will have the most luck in sites 9, 10, 11, and 12. That being said, we did see some bigger rigs in the early sites but it was a TIGHT squeeze. In addition to the 12 designated sites there are some smaller pull offs that are cleared out but are technically not campsites. I don't believe that there are any sites that are completely level, so be prepared for that. The dirt road is rough with some larger pot holes but I don't think 4 wheel drive is necessary. Most of the the sites that we explored seemed to be pretty clean, except for site 12 which was trashed with shot gun shells, clay pigeons, bottles, etc. We tried to pick some of it up but there was still a significant amount left.

There are a bunch of downed trees branches that make great firewood but you should be aware of fire conditions in the area. This location is full of very dry trees, branches, and bushes and I can imagine that it would go up like a match with even the smallest ember.

While we did have 2 to 3 bars of 4G LTE service with Verizon, we still had painfully slow Internet speeds.

The location is only 1 mile from Mesa Verde National Park, 10 minutes form downtown Cortez, and about 15 minutes to Mancos. The surrounding towns are small but full of stuff to do.

We found this spot on campendium and thought it was great. Its 15 mins to Cortez and Mancos, right across the street from Mesa Verde NP. Cell service is good, views are beautiful, its quiet, stars are beautiful, and access was good. I think site 6 is the best because we have this gorgeous view of a grassland and Mesa Verde but still have trees for privacy. Not sure a larger RV could get in this spot though. Just be careful if it rains, the dirt turns to literal mud glue and we barely got out with our 4x4 Jeep! We had to stay an extra day to let the mud dry out so we could get the RV out! Luckily we had the time. :)
