We stayed at Rifle Gap Oct. 7 -11 which is off season so it wasn't very crowded at all.
The sites were all very big and spaced out nicely. We were in site 19 which had full hook ups and a view of the sadly low reservoir. We enjoyed the peace and quiet and beauty of the fall season. The little visitors center was nice, had some local info and the people were very nice and friendly.
The Verizon cell service was poor (1 bar 3G) so we had to drive the short distance to the dam where we could get a signal when needed.
The showers and restrooms were clean and well maintained.
We visited the Rifle Falls area which was worth a trip over to see. We fished but didn't catch anything.
Rifle had a couple nice restaurants we tried and my hubby golfed at the local course which is minutes away from the campground.
We will happily stay here again if in the area.

We agree with everything the other reviewers said. The park is gorgeous, people friendly, great location, ok cell service and quiet. We loved our time here and will stay again for sure!

We stayed here for 6 nights May 23, 2018
I have mixed feelings about this campground. There are positives and negatives.

Positives: The staff was extremely friendly and helpful
There is a gas station, convenience store and propane right on site.
The campground is beautiful- full of trees etc.
The location is great for visiting the Tetons, Yellowstone, Jackson Hole etc.
The sites are spaced pretty far apart from each other.

Negatives: The roads in the campground and the sites need work! Potholes galore and
sites are not level. It was raining when we pulled in- so we had to set up in
big, deep puddles.
The price is outrageous! We have camped all across the US and have never
paid so much for a campsite. Price should be $40 tops. I know...location.
The Lodge, restaurant, gift shops were not open during our stay- even for the
Memorial weekend! Not open until June 1- which was a huge disappointment.
Absolutely NO wifi or cell service- but we knew it going in.

We would stay here again if we needed to and could afford it. If we are going to pay $74 plus taxes to camp- the roads need to be great, sites level, amenities open.

We came to Leasburg SP to stay a night or two so we could do a day trip to White Sands National Monument. It is a small campground and they were full when we arrived on November 6th (a Tuesday). The nice host apologized but said they didn't have a site for us so we turned around to head out. As we were leaving the Ranger stopped us and was able to offer us a night or two in their Group Area since no one was coming in. The only caveat was we had to be responsible for opening and closing the gate as we came or went. We agreed, as we had been driving all day and didn't want to search for another spot.
We stayed for 2 nights with electric and water and had the Area to ourselves. It was actually quite nice. The train tracks were very close to where we stayed so a few times a day and night we heard some loud noise and rumbling - but it was no biggie.
Cell signal was great- 4-5 bars of Verizon LTE
We found the Hosts and Rangers friendly and knowledgable and were grateful that they were willing to put us up!
We would definitely come back when in the area again.

We needed a place to stay for the weekend since we couldn't get a spot at the first come first serve campgrounds near here and Hat Creek.
The campground is clean enough but oddly put together. It is family run which we like and the people were friendly. Location for Lassen National Park and Burney is great!
We were in one of their partial hookup sites which were set up so that you are door to door with your neighbor..... awkward! They only had the hookup posts every two sites which meant sharing with a neighbor which meant you were facing your other neighbors. The sites were very close together and the space was not clearly defined which meant some people had way more room than others (because they were there first and simply set their stuff up in what I would have assumed was our site.) Turns out our neighbor was using the fire pit meant for our site- so we ended up with no pit.
The WiFi was very weak at our site and there was zero Verizon cell service here.
We liked that the sites were on grass and that there were cows and goats nearby, and that it was family run and quiet- but hated the site setup.
We really feel with some work this could be a way better campground. More defined spaces are necessary!

Stayed here during Covid and had a great time. It’s a busy park with lots of turnover. The facilities were all open and kept clean.
We have a 30’ 5er and had no issues at all getting into our site. The campground road is a bit narrow but it’s nothing to be concerned about. Take it slow if your site’s angle isn’t great- but you can do it.
Lots to do and see in the area.
We had a great visit and we will be back!

We love this campground! We initially reserved a site for 4 nights but later extended it because it was such a nice place. It is so close to many tourist sites and to Colorado Springs, Manitou Park and Old Colorado City. We wanted to visit several things while we were here such as Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, Florissant Fossil Beds, There are some caves and mines to tour as well- all close by this park. Yes, they charge a $10 reservation fee per reservation (and I happily paid that twice because we extended) but $28 a night for full hook ups in a park that is super clean and the spots are well spaced is worth it to me. There are many hiking trails in the park, there are nice showers, a laundry room, a visitor center and gift shop and lots of deer and wildlife right here in the campground. Rangers drive around multiple times per day and were very friendly and helpful. Firewood bundles are $5 at the visitors center if you need wood.
All I can say is this place worked for us and we loved our time here.

We found Mount Madonna Campground by using Campendium photos and reviews! This place is a gem! We are recent retirees heading North to Oregon stopping along the way to enjoy California. We booked 5 nights initially (March 2018) but after being here a day we decided to extend our stay and added another week. The hiking trails around here are breathtaking and expansive. Redwoods canopy most of the trails which makes it so enjoyable and beautiful.
The Rangers and Camp Hosts were very friendly and helpful. It is off season so it is very quiet here even on the weekend. Our site (117RV) was near the road and we could hear the traffic but it was very light. I do recommend coming up the hill through Gilroy rather than Watsonville due to the poor road conditions and very tight corners. We were towing a 27' 5th wheel and it was a bit harrowing coming up through Watsonville- the Gilroy route is much better. There is very little cell reception in the campground. I got one bar of LTE which allowed me to send a text but basically that's all. The signal came and went constantly.
We will definitely come back here and stay in the future!

We found this campground to be beautiful in that the lake was nice and the trees and greenery were plentiful. The fishing in the local streams, creeks, rivers was amazing.
The sites were pretty close together- but I imagine when this campground was built no one had slide outs and huge rigs.
We chose this campground because after traveling and dry camping we needed a break from the heat (100 degrees) and needed electric hook ups. We were dying to run the AC so we could sleep better at night and also wanted to cook a few meals in the Insta-pot.
We booked a 5 night stay here so we could cool off, cook and rest.
We have an EMS on our rig to protect our appliances from too high or too low of voltage (we once lost a refrigerator to bad voltage.) Once we settled in we closed up the rig and turned on the AC and our power immediately shut off. We tried several times and each time the power shut off. (Now, my hubby is a retired (40 yrs) high voltage electric lineman/electrician for our local gas and electric company so he knows and understands electricity. He went out and checked our voltage which, over the course of 5 days, ran constantly at 101-106 (um.... we paid for 120). We had everything turned off in our rig and tried to use the Insta-Pot, but every time we tried to use any electricity it would shut off. This was so frustrating.
We went to the check-in booth to discuss the issue when we noticed a sign in the window which read "Electricity users, please only use what you need as too much usage can cause issues" so they are aware there is a problem. They sent a couple of Rangers over who had no idea about electricity- but they came to apologize for the inconvenience. They said the park is old and the new rigs all use so much more power than the old ones that it has become an issue. They said our circuit is just overloaded because it is so hot everyone is running their AC (everyone but us thank you very much). We were at the end of the line and the power was just too low to be usable. It was frustrating because we saw rigs with 2 ACs going and we couldn't even run our one. We asked for a refund of the price of full hook ups since we were unable to use it at all (all 5 days) but they said only the Park Mgr. had that authority. We left him a message as well as a 3 page comment card and never heard a word from him. What does he care? He obviously didn't.
It was very hot during our stay and we were very disappointed and are even more disappointed that Bob, the Park Manager never bothered to contact us.
We have Verizon and had very spotty cell service. We could text words only- no photos and no email or online capability at all.

We have mixed feelings about this park.

First off when I called to reserve a spot I was told they only had Presidential Pull-thru's available, and I couldn't use my PA discount on those special sites. The woman then told me that these sites were fenced, grassy with a covered picnic table, a BBQ that they supply the gas for and that it was a much larger site altogether so it was worth double the price. (we have a dog and thought the fenced area would be so nice for her). Well friends of ours were already booked- so we went for it (it was Valentines Day and we would splurge). This was a big expense- more costly than any other rv park in this country that we have stayed in so far (we are full timers and have been in 18 states so far) and we have been to some very swanky rv parks. This one is nice, but not near as nice as some we have been in.

When we arrived the office folks were nice and helpful. Off we went to K-1 our fancy site. When we got there we were terribly disappointed. The only thing special about this site was it was on the end. Someone had had a party before us and were apparently smokers as there was party trash and cigarette butts all over our site. The fence was a joke. There was a short bit of fencing that lined the curve in the road on the end- and there was NO grass on our social side. There was bark and bushes. The covered picnic table was slatted (and it rained.... no poured) the whole time we were there- so we couldn't even use it. Our BBQ grill door was broken and the gas was empty. Well it was pouring so I guess we weren't going to use it anyway. Let's just say this wasn't very Presidential. I can see upping the price a bit because it is an end site- but charging for a Presidential site is robbery. Since there are no hosts in the park I guess no one checks the sites after people leave~ so I spent 30 minutes picking up all the trash and cig butts and put them in a large ziplock. I took it to the office and let the ladies know we were disappointed in our site and with the trash- it didn't feel very Presidential. A short while later one of the office staff came over with 2 free casino buffet coupons (I don't do buffets) but it was a nice gesture I guess.

We did have to call security once (no hosts-office was closed) it was a noise issue and it was after 10pm. I figure if my RV is 7 sites away from you, it's pouring rain and my TV was up as loud as it could go and we could STILL hear and feel your Bass- it's way to loud. Security from the casino came very promptly and were nice and professional and the issue was handled.

There are some very nice things we liked about the park so besides paying way too much for our specific site- we did enjoy many other things:
Great cell signal
Plenty of TV stations found on our antennae (their free cable was limited and only in Analog)
We used the free shuttle to the casino almost every day (we tipped the driver a few bucks every time we used the ride) It was nice to have. We enjoyed all the restaurants, bars etc. The casino gambling we weren't too successful at!
The location is great for wineries and Old Temecula.
The site was paved and level.

We may or may not stay here again- but I can tell you it will be in a basic site (which all looked decent- even the back ins) and not in any they called "upgraded" as we would have been just as happy in one of those.
