Nothing special but okay for an overnight stay if your RV is self contained. Interstate noise isn’t too bad. I missed the sign and had to pull over to look more closely. Friendly staff
I wish we were staying more than just one night. Warm, inviting place that is clean and well maintained. The staff is friendly and helpful. Easy access from I-64, but highway noise is minimal. I would say most sites are well shaded. Asphalt drives with packed stone pads. Nice little pond partitioned for swimming including a beach area. Plenty of walking and play area for children, adults and pets. If in the area, I would not hesitate to stay here again.
What a nice place. Very clean, well maintained and friendly staff. The drives and sites are all packed crushed limestone, but not at all dusty. Plenty of shaded sites and a few open sky sites for stargazing. Nice playground area for kids and adults alike. Spacious dog park. I'd recommend staying here if you are passing through. Only downside, I-24 is nearby, but blocked from view a wide strip of large full trees.
The RV Park was good. The hosts were very friendly and helpful.
Bathrooms were clean but not new. They park is being expanded as well but this is not a deterrent of any kind. There is not much of a view from the park, as scenery goes, We did not see aliens, BUT we did not get abducted either ;-)
We would stay here again if in the area.
Located on a low traffic road far enough away from I-35 to barely hear the traffic, yet 3 minutes and you are on the highway.
Restrooms, showers, rec room and grounds are well kept. This park is about access to other places. If you like walking and/or riding (bike) nature trails you are going to love this place. An entrance to Berry Springs Park and Preserve is directly across the road from the RV park. There are miles and miles, and more miles, of walking/riding paths in Berry Springs Park.
We are here in March. As far as I know nothing big going on but the RV park appears to be nearly full (a lot of full timers and residents). I'd advise advance reservations or call ahead at the very least. There is no shade at the sites, so that might prove uncomfortable on those long Texas summer days.
This RV Park is about convenient/easy access to points of interest (and there are many). We will definitely be back when we need to spend a few days in the area... can't wait.
For what this park is, it earns a 3+ in my book.
If you find yourself in need of an RV park for an overnight stay, Boone RV Park will get the job done. The bathrooms, showers, and laundry facilities were very clean.
The park is located right on Highway 281 so it is a easy to find, but you can also hear the traffic speeding by. It wasn't bad enough to keep us from sleeping though.
There are a lot of full timers and residents in this park so calling ahead is a good idea.
Bottom line, we would stay there again if we were just passing through. I'll rate it a 3 for what it was, an okay place to put the stabilizers down for a relaxing evening after a long drive.
A year or so ago a fellow woodworker told me about the Texas Hill Country Furniture and Mercantile thinking it might be a consignment source for some of my wood turnings. Well I didn't find fame or fortune, but what I did find was the best Texas Smokehouse BBQ I've ever had. The Rocking Chair and store is a BIG hit with the grand kids so there is always an excuse and willingness to make the 90 minute drive. Need to stretch your legs, have some fun and good eats doing it.
Yes it is corny, yes it is a hold over from the Rt 66 heyday/ and yes it can use some work but that is all part of the fun in it. The friendly gift shop lady I spoke with there was definitely in to the place for what it was, a toss back to the 60's. I can't imagine a kid who wouldn't enjoy it today, just as it is. As an adult, I couldn't help smiling as I remembered watching the Flintstone's TV show when I was a young boy.
Worth the $5 bucks per person. Oh yeah, you also can buy a 5 cent cup of coffee there - how's that for a toss back to the 60's? :-)
Beautiful State Park. Even has a huge seasonal swimming pool. I understand it was not opened in 2014 due to needed repairs, but rumor has it will be open again for the 2015 season - check first.
Consistent with every Texas State Park I've visited, bathrooms and showers were very clean. The park itself is well maintained. Lots of neat foot trails although we were only there over night and could not explore them to any degree.
Only a 3 hour drive for us so we will definitely be going back soon. Be sure to make reservations with Texas Parks and Widlife, as I was told this park is often full on the weekends until after October.
Another highlight of our 2 week RV road trip. Only a 35 minute drive (one way) from the Carlsbad Caverns. The views are so worth it. We easily did both the caverns and the drive to the Guadalupe Mountains National Park Visitor Center, also stopping to visit McKittrick Canyon on the return trip to Carlsbad.
We did not get to do any hiking, as that would have required much more time than we had.
My only regret is that we did not spend a night at the campground (room for RV's) near the visitor center.
