We took a Papillon helicopter tour of Grand Canyon South Rim from the airport. The Papillon terminal was easy to find and navigate in a 32 ft RV as were all terminals.
Nothing but great things to say about the Papillon flight as well.
This was a neat stop. We did not take the guided tour but we did go through the museum before going out to the crater. We found it to be quite informative with a lot of interesting information. The 3 outside decks gave nice views of the crater. The guided tour included a short walk on a small portion of the crater rim. We were there about an hour. It was a good stop for us.
I really enjoyed staying overnight here. For me, being part of the open range seemed to spark the imagination of "yester-years". The park has two areas of Hopi Indian ruins to see. There are some walking trails perhaps a bit too soft sandy for trail bikes but they are allowed if you want. There is a park office where staff was very informative and helpful. Don't expect a lot of amenities other than electric, water, a clean campground with clean showers and restrooms. My wife would have preferred more of a traditional RV Park. I felt this was a worthwhile stop, especially if you enjoy learning or expanding Indian history.
The Painted Desert is the first portion of this worthwhile drive-thru park when entering from I-40. It was beautiful to say the least. I'd suggest stopping in the gift shop on the way in to get the lay of the land so to speak. Following the winding road through the park also took us into the Petrified Forest where we enjoyed even more beautiful scenery. Hard to imagine it was once filled with trees but we did come to a large area where we enjoyed seeing what we thought was a pretty good natural accumulation of petrified trees.
We stopped along the road numerous times so it took us about 2 hours to go through both. The southern park (Petrified Forest area) exit put us on a highway that angled right back up to I-40.
Well worth the diversion, we would recommend it.
Don't let the missing photo scare you away. This is a nice, clean, quiet RV Park with excellent amenities. We had a friendly greeting upon arrival. We were travelling through so arrived late and left early but we did make it a point to check it out. Nice dog park there too. It's an easy drive to Albuquerque where there is plenty more to do. Definitely would stay here again. Would likely be a 5 but only staying one night I'll hole back with a solid 4.
WOW. What a beautiful place. We'e been wanting to visit here since we got our RV back in March. Finally the opportunity came. Park is undergoing some road (bridge) improvements but that did not spoil anything in any way. Take your bikes, lots of places to ride, some very easy, some very strenuous, all are beautiful. Clean park, well kept. It's a 6 hour drive for us, but we will definitely be going back... soon.
Great park with foot trails easy to navigate. we will be back for sure.

Great place. We're local to the area and come here just for a quick getaway. Great staff, very clean campground, grand kids love the playground, gated 24x7 so fewer worries about who is here thar shouldnt be. Peaceful place. Lots to do around this area if you want to get out.
