I was pleasantly surprised with this location! Not necessarily for photography reasons.. but just because it was so absolutely relaxing! Swimming is awesome and there is a ton of exploring and a few places to rent kayak's and such! Definitely worth a stop :)
I went here on 09/29/14
The trail to get into this place has been absolutely destroyed to keep people out. There are cut down trees and big trenches built into the path from start to finish. It is not an easy hike as you are going over and under constantly.
That being said it is one of the coolest places I have ever been in my life. The view down the valley and straight down is amazing and the rush of being that high up in itself is crazy!
I have talked to a few people who have been going for 10-30 years and they used to drive their jeeps and motor bikes across it however recently (since it became popular) there are a few holes in the middle from people having fires and burning through sections!
All in all I highly recommend checking this place out although you can't be afraid of heights and be ready for a crazy hike and a ticket (so I hear)
Make sure you check out what time of year you plan on going if you are in it for the photos! Mid-end of summer there isn't as much water in the falls and you won't get the really nice swirls.
Just before sunset there is a rainbow that will form in the mist at the bottom that is spectacular!
Extreme tip: scramble down on the far right or far left to get to the bottom of the cliffs and swim below the waterfall! You will not regret it!
Badlands is definitely worth a stop. It can be very dangerous as you are basically allowed to roam free off trail and all over the place! The castle trail is fantastic as well!
Come during the night to get some crazy awesome night sky photos!
This thing is massive! Its worth grabbing a quick selfie in front of but also in the middle of a busy street so you can't park right beside it!
This is by far the most beautiful abandoned place I have ever photographed! The roadtrippers app will bring you right to the front doors, then just walk right in! The neighborhood is surprisingly nice and seemed fairly safe. As is everywhere in Detroit try not to do this by yourself!
The best photo is from the back balcony area which was safe to stand on! If you have time explore the surrounding buildings as well. Just prepare to have your mind blown :)
Wasn't able to get here as there was construction blocking the road getting to it.
Miner falls, in my opinion, is a MUST SEE in the pictured rocks area. The hike to get to it is a walk in the forest to get there but the walk itself is filled with beautiful trees to admire all the way there.
Once you get to the falls you will be on a viewpoint and the photo you can get from there alone is awesome! Then if you are daring make sure to climb down to the stream itself as the falls look much larger and more intense from below!
There is also a little cave like place behind the falls on the right side that is really cool :)
Wagner falls is definitely worth a stop! It is literally a 30 second drive off of the highway, and a 5 minute walk into the forest before you are greeted with the awesome falls. You will be able to hear them just before you can see them!
Bring that ND if you are a photographer cause these are very photogenic!
Pictured Rocks is a pretty cool spot with some spectacular views! I just can't give it a 5 because it can be rather difficult to see just how amazing it is without going on a boat tour or kayak trip. It is basically just an area of coast line with cool looking cliffs and lots of waterfalls! The waterfalls are definitely the highlight but the actual cliffs are hard to get to!
