If I could give this campground 4.5 stars, I would, as there's only one drawback. I'll begin with the positives:

1) Both the park staff who checked me in and our campground hosts were very nice and helpful. The camp hosts greeted me immediately and regularly patrolled the Upper Campground to ensure all was well. Five stars for both.
2) A previous reviewer made negative comments about the sites. Yes, they're gravel, but mine was reasonably level and spacious. The electric hookup worked perfectly. Note that this site is electric only, no water/sewer hookups. There was also nice shade from the trees, making it pleasant to sit outside.
3) The campground was peaceful and quiet. I was informed that the Lower Campground was noisier due to proximity to the lake, so I chose the Upper Campground. By 10 pm, all was quiet and I slept great even with the trailer windows open.
4) Yes, there were a few bugs, but c'mon, it's summer. I noticed fly strips tacked to some of the trees, so the staff are making an effort. I didn't have a screened tent and had no issues eating outside.
5) There are two nice shower/bathroom houses. They were clean and everything worked perfectly. Trash and recycling disposal were convenient, as was access to potable water.
6) No road noise at all. The park is located a bit off the beaten path, which limits any outside noise.
7) Good Verizon cell service.

My only gripe was the quality of the water. It was very high in iron and didn't taste good. It's fine for washing and showering, but I recommend bringing some drinking water.

I would definitely stay here again. Thanks, Minnesota!

What an interesting place! As one of the previous reviewers noted, the safest access is from highway 371. There are signs from here directing you to the parking access. Be careful driving the dirt roads during/after rain or snow. If you haven’t experienced NM mud - well, it gums up the tread on your tires and then you slide, as if in ice.

There isn’t a campground, so no water, electricity, or toilet facilities. Word is that BLM will soon install a pit toilet. There’s a sun shelter with two picnic tables. I had some spotty 3G service and even LTE in a few high places. Everyone sets up “camp” in the unpaved parking lot. Most folks slept in RVs or their vehicles; I set up a small tent. Everyone was quiet by 9 pm and in October it was chilly (30 degrees F).

Both sunrise and sunset were lovely, all pink, orange and deep blue. The area is huge and there are no reliable maps or trails. Explore! Crazy hoodoos, like pieces of fine art on rock pedestals; black/gray and red sand hills; hidden canyons, weird geodes and petrified trees. Such a unique place.

Please - take only pictures, leave only footprints, so it will be there for future adventurers.

I stopped here for only one night in December, so it wasn't a disaster. To begin, it was already dark when I approached the area. Google Maps took me past the small, unlit sign for the turnoff to the park and campground. It's already a dirt road at this point and was pretty soft and sandy. At least I was in my truck (no trailer) and could turn around easily. The narrow road to the camping area was the same mushy surface. I didn't use any power and cannot comment on the quality of the electric service. The sites where I stayed had a dirt/grass surface and would likely require some leveling your RV.

When I visited the restroom, I found it unkempt. Most of the overhead lights were either not working and one was an annoying, flashing strobe. The trash can was overflowing. The worst is the quality of the water - it's saturated with iron. It stains the toilets orange and after taking a quick shower, both my skin and towel/washcloth reeked of iron. I could smell it strongly for the remainder of the day.

The Verizon signal was very weak, but finding your way back to the main highway isn't too complicated. The campground is also very secluded, which may suit many people. I also think it would be an acceptable place to stay in spring or fall, but due to the nearby water may be both muggy and buggy in summer.

It's unlikely that I would stay in this campground again.

Choteau Mountain View Campground was a great stopover on the way to Glacier National Park. It sits just outside of the small town of Choteau, MT. The owners/staff are friendly, welcoming and a wealth of knowledge about local attractions. The facilities are well maintained and the bathrooms/showers very clean. The grounds have many beautiful, decorative touches and landscaping that make this campground stand out. The RV sites are gravel/dirt, mostly level and easy to access. At night, the campground is quiet with an expansive view of the stars. I had a good Verizon signal, 2-3 bars of LTE. The laundry facility was clean and there was a miniature golf course on property. The town of Choteau is a few minutes away for fuel, dining and shopping. I'd definitely stay here again.

I recommend stopping by the Bynum Dinosaur Museum - less a museum than a full working research station. Very interesting!

National Road Campground exceeded my expectations. The property is located about 5 minutes off I-70, making it very convenient for travelers. There are a couple of gas stations on the corners adjacent to the highway.

The campsites are gravel, fairly level and are organized in a loose circle around two central ponds. The campground is family-owned; Scott assisted with my initial reservation and Erin, his daughter, checked me in upon arrival. Both were friendly and welcoming.

The campsites have water and electric. A dump station is located near the main office. Other amenities include WiFi, a laundry room, bathrooms with showers (very clean!), ice for sale, and a basketball court. The grounds are well kept and beautifully landscaped with flowers. As this family has only owned the campground for a few years, improvements are constantly underway. There are several playground areas for children and plenty of space for riding bikes. On Saturdays during the summer, the owners host events such as live music, ice cream socials and other fun diversions. National Road Campground is very family and fun oriented. A great place to stay!

There are limited options if you'd like to camp near Ely, especially if you want a reserved site. Knowing that I was passing through on a busy holiday weekend, I opted to spend the extra money to reserve a spot at the Ely KOA. In the past, I've camped at Cave Lake State Park, which is nice but doesn't have much in the way of amenities. The Ely KOA is conveniently located just outside of town. The location is quiet at night (nice views of the stars), but only 10 minutes from restaurants, gas stations and a large grocery store. It's also a perfect place to stay in order to visit Great Basin National Park. The campground is gravel and very level, but can be a bit dusty. The sites are a little closer than I like, but not excessively close. The KOA has clean bathrooms and the main shower facility is very nice. The camp hosts were friendly and welcoming. There's a small, coin operated laundry facility in the same building as the camp store and main showers. Although this was an expensive night of camping, the place was so well maintained that I didn't mind. I'd certainly stay here again!

The Colby RV Park (formerly the Whistle Stop) is a nice stopover while traveling through Kansas. It's nothing fancy - just a large, level gravel lot - but it gets the job done. The staff were very nice and helpful, bathroom/laundry building well kept, electricity worked great and the sites were very level. It's close to the highway, so there's some vehicle noise at night. Walmart is literally across the street, which is a great convenience and there are several gas stations, fast food places and another grocery store nearby. I was pleased with the campground and would stop by again.

I didn't request a "guaranteed" site, but did ask that I be reasonably close to the restrooms. I was originally assigned to a good location, but upon arrival was pushed much further back to a non-level site. The smaller sites are pretty close together. My picnic table area was at such an angle that it was uncomfortable to sit for meals. Also, when I used water from the spigot at my campsite, it was polluted with bits of debris, maybe algae or gunk from the pipes? I opted to get water from the restroom instead, since it was only one night. On a positive note, the bathrooms appear to have been recently remodeled and are quite nice. There is some road noise, but it's not obnoxious. The market has a good selection of meats, cheeses and snacks. I didn't find the price was worth the less than average campsite and would probably look elsewhere in the future.

Man, I really wanted to like this place more…

I’ll begin with the positives: The sites are gravel and mine was very level. There are nice grassy areas between the sites and the electric service worked fine. Not all sites had picnic tables (mine didn't). The main building is a large barn, very picturesque, but I wasn’t able to see the inside as I arrived after the office had closed. Lovely rosebushes, a few perimeter trees and plenty of chirping birds gave the property a nice feel. There’s a pool behind the bathroom/shower building, but it didn't appear to be open yet. The person I spoke with over the phone was very nice and welcoming.

Here’s what didn’t work well for me: There is only one toilet/shower combo room for women and one for the men, for the entire campground. If you don’t have a toilet in your RV (or you’re tent/vehicle camping), you may have to wait use the restroom. The laundry room was okay, but only one washing machine was operable. The biggest issue, though, is the road noise. Highway 287 is quite close and semi trucks rumble by all night. Just beyond that is the railroad track; the numerous trains whistle loudly all night. I realize the campground cannot control this, but the loud noise may disrupt your sleep if you’re not in a soundproofed rig. I’m also not crazy about the carriage lights mounted on many of the electrical posts. Mine was about four feet from the trailer and shone directly into my window. In contrast, the area around the bathroom/shower building was very dark.

Overall, it seemed that this campground is more suited to large RV’s or trailers, which are more immune to external noise and are self-contained. It seems the owners have put considerable effort into making this a nice and welcoming location and a few changes could make this an outstanding place to stay.
