Choteau Mountain View Campground was a great stopover on the way to Glacier National Park. It sits just outside of the small town of Choteau, MT. The owners/staff are friendly, welcoming and a wealth of knowledge about local attractions. The facilities are well maintained and the bathrooms/showers very clean. The grounds have many beautiful, decorative touches and landscaping that make this campground stand out. The RV sites are gravel/dirt, mostly level and easy to access. At night, the campground is quiet with an expansive view of the stars. I had a good Verizon signal, 2-3 bars of LTE. The laundry facility was clean and there was a miniature golf course on property. The town of Choteau is a few minutes away for fuel, dining and shopping. I'd definitely stay here again.

I recommend stopping by the Bynum Dinosaur Museum - less a museum than a full working research station. Very interesting!

There are limited options if you'd like to camp near Ely, especially if you want a reserved site. Knowing that I was passing through on a busy holiday weekend, I opted to spend the extra money to reserve a spot at the Ely KOA. In the past, I've camped at Cave Lake State Park, which is nice but doesn't have much in the way of amenities. The Ely KOA is conveniently located just outside of town. The location is quiet at night (nice views of the stars), but only 10 minutes from restaurants, gas stations and a large grocery store. It's also a perfect place to stay in order to visit Great Basin National Park. The campground is gravel and very level, but can be a bit dusty. The sites are a little closer than I like, but not excessively close. The KOA has clean bathrooms and the main shower facility is very nice. The camp hosts were friendly and welcoming. There's a small, coin operated laundry facility in the same building as the camp store and main showers. Although this was an expensive night of camping, the place was so well maintained that I didn't mind. I'd certainly stay here again!

First, note that there are two campgrounds within Cave Lake State Park:
1) Lakeview Campground is located adjacent to the lake, although not much of a view of the lake. Although I didn't stay in this campground, I drove through and found the spots to be small, the driveway tight for larger vehicles and the sites were only moderately level.
2) Elk Flat Campground is the first campground you encounter upon entering the park from Ely, NV. This is where I stayed and the campground I am reviewing.

So...Elk Flat Campground...
The sites are $20 per night for out of state visitors, which includes both the camping and park entry fee. You can pay an additional $5 per night for a boating permit. The road leading to and within the campground is gravel, as are all the sites, so some dust can be expected. Large motorhomes had no problem negotiating the roads and occupied several sites. The majority of sites are quite level and well-maintained. The park staff regularly rake the gravel and ensure no trash is left behind. There is good separation between the sites and the natural vegetation increases the privacy. The Park Rangers periodically drive through the campground and I appreciate their vigilance.

These sites are primitive, in that there is no electric, water, sewer at individual sites. There is a large shower & bathroom building, which was kept very clean during my stay. The showers are free and there's hot water, too! Regarding potable water, there are several spigots conveniently positioned around the single loop of the Elk Flat Campground.

Cave Lake State Park feels like a desert oasis and stands apart from the surrounding desert in picturesque rocky hills. The campground is approximately 15 minutes from Ely, NV - gas, groceries, restaurants, etc. Enjoy the park or take a drive to Great Basin National Park, which is maybe an hour away.

The only drawback was the absence of a Verizon signal. Personally, I enjoyed the peace and quiet of the park without the interruption of the outside world. If you really need it, just drive out to the main highway where the signal is strong.

Next time, I'll plan to stay longer! A definite winner in my book!

You’ve read other reviews, so here is another one recommending that you visit this lovely campground. Kodachrome Basin is a somewhat remote park, but still only about ½ hour from Bryce Canyon City and Bryce Canyon National Park.

There are two other campground loops within the park (Arch and Bryce View), but Basin is definitely the nicest. Basin Campground is located at the farthest end of the park, bounded by the vibrantly colored rock formations for which it is named. There are plenty of trees for shade and privacy between sites. Some sites have water/electric and others are dry camping. A very nice bathroom and shower facility is located in the middle of the loop and is kept clean via a daily cleaning by park staff. Dumpsters are located across the street from this shower house. There is a second shower house on the main road, just as you approach Basin, which may be closer for those in the powered sites. Two water spigots are located along the loop, with a third at the second shower house. There is firewood for sale at $10/bundle and the Red Dirt Laundromat (inside the park) is affordable and clean. At night, the campground is very quiet. In the early morning, jackrabbits visit to nibble on greenery. During the day, there are numerous trails to hike. In the evening, the park staff light a propane campfire at the Visitor’s Center and guests are welcome to hang out and socialize. The park staff were fabulous! They were friendly, helpful and make this park a real gem. The only drawback is no Verizon cell signal in the park; you can either use the WiFi at the Visitor’s Center (kinda slow) or drive a few miles toward town and the signal picks up to 5G. Starlink may be an option? I’d definitely return to the Basin Campground and I recommend booking in advance.

Having been to Sequoia and Kings Canyon several times, I wanted to see the coastal redwoods. I booked early, as the campground sold out fairly quickly for the summer dates. My campsite cost $35/night, plus a one time booking fee of $7.99. It was by far my most expensive night of my two week camping trip.

Elk Prairie Campground is conveniently located just off the Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway, which is a nice drive through the redwood forest. To begin, there was no check in before 2 pm, even if your site was vacant. Upon arriving at my site, which was fairly spacious for a tent, I noticed that the picnic table looked like a biological lab experiment gone wrong. It was covered in green algae, burnt sections and parts were rotted. The bathrooms were in similar poor shape. On the positive side, there was running water, flush toilets and a shower. A spigot with potable water was located outside the building.

The park itself is great, with many trails winding through stands of enormous redwood trees. If you're up to it, the hike from the campground to Fern Valley and the adjacent beach is magical. Large elk roamed through the campground and nearby meadow. A 20 minute drive south will bring you to misty California beaches.

If I were to visit this area again, I would aim to stay in the national forest rather than the state park. In my opinion, Elk Prairie was overpriced and underwhelming.

If you’re looking to grab a reserved campsite close to the Sunrise area of Mount Rainier National Park, this is your lucky spot. Silver Springs Campground is just a few miles north of the official entrance to the park and approximately 40 minutes driving time from the Sunrise parking lot, where you’ll access the trailheads to Mount Fremont Lookout, the Three Burroughs and the Wonderland Trail. The White River Campground is the closest to Sunrise, but is typically booked via first come, first served.

The Silver Springs Campground features a mix of modern (flush/running water) bathrooms and vault toilets (very clean - thank you camp hosts!). Potable water spigots are available on each loop, although there was a temporary outage on my loop which necessitated a slightly longer walk (free exercise, right?). The majority of sites feature excellent privacy among the lovely forest and the White River flows alongside the campground. The sites are dirt/gravel and most are fairly level. If you choose a site close to the main road, you’ll hear some noise from passing traffic; otherwise, you’ll hear the flowing river and wind in the trees.

The sites are primitive, in that there is not electric/water/sewer at individual sites. The cell phone signal was sparse, at best only two bars of LTE using Verizon. The tree foliage may limit the efficiency of solar panels, but it also provides protection from the occasional rain showers.

I would definitely return to this campground.
