Let me start by saying that the park is still suffering from the damage caused by Hurricane Michael in 2018 so half of the camping sites are closed along with many of the trails.
However, the staff has done an amazing job getting the park back in order. The cabins are all open as well as beautiful RV sites on the lake. We went over Veteran’s Day weekend so couldn’t get a spot on the water but #47 was still nice and did have a lake view. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful at check in and the camp host was also very welcoming.
We have. 28 foot Airstream and even with a pull through site we had to be careful of the pines trees. Our site was fairly level but we saw quite a few that were not so come prepared with blocks.
The only negative was a noisy group next to us who treated the entire park to a country rock concert two nights in a row. We were told that if the camp manager were there (he was out sick) that he would have out a stop to it.
Park is only an hour south of Kolomoki Mounds State Park which is definitely worth a day trip. Overall a peaceful park with beautiful scenery, even with the hurricane damage.

We stayed here for a few days mid-October. We love COE campgrounds but this one wasn't really what we expected. We thought our GPS was sending us on a wild goose chase as this very small park is literally at the end of a residential street with houses right on the perimeter. However, it was clean and our site on the water was beautiful. I'd recommend staying on or across the street from the water if you can. The other loops are spoke and wheel with far less room and privacy between sites. The newer single person bathrooms near the boat ramp are much better than the older bath house near the host sites. The laundry facilities consisted of one washer and dryer outside behind the bathhouse. It was close to Nashville and we did enjoy a day trip there to visit the Ryman Auditorium (excellent museum tour and great COVID protocols in place) but frankly the downtown area was a COVID-factory and we didn't feel comfortable spending much time there. We did another day trip to The Hermitage, Andrew Jackson's home in Nashville. Highly recommend spending a day there since there really isn't much to do a the campground itself.

Came here as a last minute change since we needed hook ups. Lovely small campground hidden in the woods. Sites were a bit unlevel side to side but Anderson levelers did the trick. Unfortunately, it rained the entire time we were there and the electric went out as well. But Park staff were very responsive and provided updates so we were only without power for a few hours.

We love COE parks but this one didn't live up to our other experiences. We are traveling across the country and to beat the summer heat planned several COE stops so we could use our kayak and cool down. While the sites in our loop were nicely spaced, level, shaded and quiet, that's about all the praise I can offer. The bathrooms were dirty, the women's restroom did not have hand soap the entire 3 days we were there. We couldn't launch our kayak from the campsite or anywhere else nearby and frankly the water was not at all inviting. We did enjoy our visit to the National Memorial for Peace and Justice and the Montgomery Zoo but outside of that can't recommend staying here.

This is our second AZ state park and did not disappoint. Very nice long, level back in sites with ample living areas. Fabulous views of the Superstition Mountains, nice trails and lovely nature walk. Clean bathrooms and friendly staff. Recommend the hike up to Flatiron Peak but start early before sun gets too hot. Also worth a trip to Canyon Lake, beautiful drive and lake is great for SUP, kayaking and boating. Tortilla Flat Superstition Saloon has amazing breakfast. Good WIFI connection via Verizon and ATT. Road bikes on mountain bike trail and over to Goldfield Mine.

First time here and great experience. We were in the upper loop and while we liked the sites down by the lake, our site was just fine. Fairly level, nice living area and trails close by. Restrooms were kept clean, friendly camp hosts. Park trails connect you directly to Pine Mountain trail so you can hike to your hearts content. Highlight was trip to Little While House and Dowdell's Knob. A must visit for a thorough history of FDR. Pack a lunch and picnic at his favorite spot, Dowdell's Knob. Then you can hike the trails and work off your lunch. Very quiet during the week but come Friday is was packed full with families and kids.

This was our first visit to a COE campground but it most certainly will not be our last - we actually have two additional camping trips planned here. We came here mid-June and the campground had literally just opened the week prior. Our site was perfect since my husband and I both worked during the week. and given there was a ton of shade we could easily sit outside. Good connectivity that allowed us both to work without disruption. Very level pad, large living area outside and full hook ups. Big open field btwn us and the lake, other sites are directly on the lake but we didn't mind the walk. Most sites have good shade cover although some on the lake (sites btwn #12-19 have more direct sun) are in full sun. Be careful as well for some of those lake sites btwn #7-20 have very steep driveways that make it very difficult for large rigs to park - you can see the evidence of the groove marks on the pavement. You could tell that there was still maintenance to be done on the trail and lots of tree debris but that didn't impact our experience. Front gate staff was very nice and helpful.
We brought our kayak and loved paddling all over the lake - it is huge. Quite and peaceful even thought the park was pretty full while we were there. We are still social distancing so didn't do any exploring out side the par except to visit George T Bagby State Park and Marina which is right across from Cotton Hill.

First time here, small park but so peaceful. We were in site 12 and while the living area was huge it might be best as a buddy site with #11. We had fabulous neighbors but their living area and fire pit was about 6 feet from our camper. Not an issue with friends or good neighbors but if you had a noisy crew next door it could be a problem. Very nice park hosts who were always working on the sites. Nice trails around the park. My husband played the Highland Walk Golf course, the hilliest course we’ve ever seen. Also visited the Ty Cobb museum in Royston and ate at the Beebop Bakery and Cafe. Excellent food and service.
If you are a tent camper they have the coolest tent platforms I’ve ever seen.
The park staff also deserve a shout out. We had an issue with our electric box upon arrival and the park manager came right out to fix it. He also came out the next morning when it popped up again. They went above and beyond for us.

You can tell that AL put a fair amount of money into redoing the park and upgrading the sites, roads and bathhouses. We stayed in the Lower Loop which is smaller with easy access to Lake Cheaha (beach, swimming) and hiking trials which take you to some incredible vistas. Upper Campground is larger with more space btwn sites and access to up Bald Rock .
PROS: new bathrooms and showers, level sites, excellent trails with beautiful views nearby and very quiet. We hiked every day and loved the scenery.
CONS: whomever designed the sites probably isn't a camper. Roads are one way so all the pull through sites on the left side have your door opening to the road and very little space for a "living area". There are super bright lights interspersed in the campground (we had one right between our site and the next) with no rhyme or reason so it takes away from the evening ambience. The pull through sites are great if you are camping with friends but not as great if you are solo as they share driveways. No cell or WIFI in the campgrounds but you can get it at the visitor center and lodge so be warned if you are working remotely.
Even with all the cons we really enjoyed our time here and will certainly come back again.

We stayed here for 3 days in early October. Enjoyed our stay and while all cavern tours were cancelled due to COVID we were still able to participate in a self-guided historic cave tour. We actually enjoyed the ability to take our time in the caves and there were multiple park staff available to answer questions. Multiple trails directly from the campground which was also nice. If you have bikes I highly recommend the Bike and Hike trail - beware of the hills!
Site itself was very spacious and they had sites roped off to maintain a semblance of social distancing. Downside with all the trees was almost zero sun for our solar panels. Bathrooms were old but clean; showers were closed due to COVID; dump station was roomy and easy. A few noisy generators but nothing unbearable.
