Nice BLM land, reasonably clean, but very crowded. Get in early for a decent spot, prepare to have neighbors packed in tightly.
Nothing fancy, but a solid home base for the surprisingly good area for exploring and southwest history. Owned by a founding family, Box 8 offers the essentials for semi dry camping. The large dirt lot has plenty of space, a shower and laundry room are on site, water and dump station are included on the property. Propane is also available. Beautiful views of surrounding mountains, coyotes chattering at night and a safe location add up to a good spot.
Great location, with gas, propane, free dump station, high pressure air hose at dump station, one stop shop!
Large, level hard packed lot just south of the Caverns road. Plenty of space, perfect overnight boondock spot.
It’s got location… just average in general. Our site was level #3, but very tight. Shower/bathroom was worn and not very appealing. Looks to be resting on laurels of the old days, although there are signs of efforts to upgrade. Could be a top level place with some effort.
Really a stunning place to visit, simple and beautiful sunsets. Road tour is partially paved but sand portion is easily managed by 2WD vehicles.
Very basic, full hook ups, but eclectic old place with old cars around the property, lots of debris and equipment. Pretty edgy, but it worked in a pinch.
Our hosts were beyond kind, greeted us with brochures of the local attractions, maps to the Missions, and great restaurant suggestions. We were lucky enough to visit the Tipi erected on the property, and enjoy a campfire with the other guests. This is a great spot to use as a base to visit San Antonio, it’s convenient to the missions and not far from downtown. I’d love to stay again. Hook ups are clean and in good condition, everything is spotless. Be sure to follow the instructions on entering, it’s unmarked for privacy.
Great lakefront location, easy access, some drive through spaces, clean and well maintained. Separate dump station, power and water at the sites.
Weird like Austin… if you’re a type A, this place won’t work for you. It’s old school, cash or check only, a little worn around the edges, but a great stay. Right in town, you may have to drive over to get a response. No website, no reservations system, maybe a call back, maybe not. Owners are great.
It’s tight, not super pretty, but everything you could want is walking distance. I’m happy to recommend it.
