The campground set up is nothing to write home about. A trek down several miles of wide well maintained gravel road. Fairly closely sited picnic tables, and except for one spot you have to park on the loop gravel road rather than into a site, and even though we're pretty sloppy about leveling our truckcamper, we did have to put in some work to get it decently level. No fires allowed. But oh my goodness, the views of sunrise and moonrise will blow your mind, and then a few bison wander through the middle of the campground, and then you find yourself chatting with the prairie dogs right next to your picnic table, and then a small pack of coyotes comes and yips for a while right outside the campground loop. Could not ask for a more magical experience, and I'd definitely go back.

No water, but you can fill up at the Cedar Creek Group Campground/Dump Site. Vault toilets open all year, very clean. A ranger came through in the evening and nicely asked a few folks to reposition vehicles and stuff. Almost everyone took off at or before sunrise to go explore or move on.

We are mostly state/national park campers - we have a small truck camper and like to be out in the woods or desert. But every once in a while we need to hit the big city for errands, fun, friends, and laundry, and city KOAs are great. This one is the best! Closely spaced sites, yes, but level and with full hook ups, great facilities, right on a bike path for long walks, and an extremely well-run operation. There was live music at the cafe (and dinner offerings!) the night we were there, first time I haven't had to cook in weeks. We met lots of nice people that evening and the next morning when we had breakfast there. Our camping neighbors were all friendly and outgoing, too. I appreciate that they check dog breed, aggressiveness, etc. when folks are coming with pets (we've had campground dog attacks happen to us, and it's terrifying). Park wifi was, as it so often is, slow because of lots of users, but we got the emails we needed. The park is close to DT San Antonio for touristing (that also is going to bring some noise with it, full disclosure), and the staff were even great about letting our friend come visit us.

Overall 5 stars and a plan to revisit.

This is a beautiful park with lots to do and see, with well-kept facilities and helpful staff. The road in is paved and easy. We did not have a reservation - it was also the last night before a park closure for a hunt, so plenty of sites available just for that night.

Sites are well-spaced with trees and shrubs so lots of privacy, level asphalt, 20/30/50 amp kiosks and water at sites, and a dump station. Bathrooms clean and shower water hot. Pretty good cell service with Google Fi. Our dog became obsessed with the armadillos (OK, we were a little obsessed with them, too), and we also saw owls, hawks, and deer. One star off noise rating because it's near the airport, but it wasn't a big issue.

Five stars and a plan to return!

Typical RV park set up, tightly fit together large RVs with quite a few long-timers. I needed to have a Zoom meeting and picked it for the free wifi, but the wifi is so overloaded by people using it that it was easier to run it off my phone's hotspot, as cell service was excellent. Lots of highway noise - we have a pop up truck camper so were probably more able to hear it than others in hardside rigs.

Super clean showers/bathrooms, hookups all in good working order, quiet folks. It's a perfect stopover on a long trip.

We opted to stay at the Mammoth Cave campground instead of Houchin Ferry at the last minute - we generally try to find less crowded options, but despite being nearly full, this campground was very peaceful and didn't feel crowded, and we had 9am tours booked so it was nice to be close to the visitor center. All booking after 4:30 has to happen via recreation.gov, so you may want to do that while you have cell service if coming in late afternoon. Site 64 is level, although not one of the longer pads (we have a truck camper, plenty of room for that). Concrete picnic table, walking distance to a very clean and upgraded bathroom and we walked back and forth to the campstore and the visitor center for tours, although less walky types might opt to drive. Showers at the campstore were not bad, 4.5 minutes for $1.50. There is also laundry. Decent enough cell service (Google Fi).

The tours of the cave are great, definitely worth the time and $$. But book ahead! Even being there in October, they were sold out by 9:00am. We did the Historic Tour and loved it. Also check out coming in or leaving via the Green River ferry if you don't have an RV or trailer. Truck campers and cars allowed, and although it's a very short ride, it's pretty cool and a lovely drive up the other side out of the park (no fee to ride).

Looks like there are folks here for longer stretches, but not a spot we'd return to. It's a long drive to get there, and as others have noted, a lot of border patrol activity in the area. We could hear helicopters at night and see searchlights. For us it was a one night stop over on our way to West Texas. That said, the star gazing was amazing, and we were there for the lunar eclipse, which we did get up to see (also amazing!). Spaces are spread out, bathrooms are clean and serviced daily, electric/water at each site.

Price reflects senior discount. Just one night here on our way to the Blue Ridge Parkway, it's a pretty little spot in a forest, with lots of hiking access. There's a dump station, water spigots throughout the campground, mostly level spots for small RVs/trailers.

Book your site before arriving, there's no FFS and cell service is iffy on site. I'm not sure if I missed them, but we only saw one bathhouse/toilet (with four full access rooms, each with toilet, sink, and shower), and there was almost always a line to use. Some folks near us ran a generator all night, but it was a very cold night and they had two babies, so slack was cut.

Helpful camp host near the bath house.

This place could not have been better and we can't wait to return. Our rough plan had been to go to Big Bend National Park as part of a 7 week road trip, but we were feeling pressed for time and doing too many miles a day. When we stopped here in early November for an overnight it was so nice we decided to just hang out at the park for a few days instead, and do the BBNP trip when we had more time. The park is a beautiful setting with lots of hiking trails, a "bird blind" that allows you to watch lots of birds in the park, and and interpretive center, and it's just a few miles from Ft. Davis National Historic Site, which is worth a visit.

Road in is easy (if long), we did not have a reservation but park staff were onsite that afternoon to check us in - there is an iron ranger if you're late. There is an RV loop with full hook ups, we chose the water-only site meant for tent campers (we have a truck camper) and it was very quiet, no generators to be found. Staying in that loop did mean some challenges with leveling, but not a huge problem. Also note that the "water only" sites do not mean you'll have your own water hook up, just that there's a shared spigot nearby. Bathrooms were clean, showers hot. No cell service but fairly strong free wifi available at the bathrooms, lodge, and interp center.

Lots of photographers there while we were there, we saw deer and hawks, but did not spot the imported feral sheep that bring folks to look. Excellent trails to hike, and amazing star/moon gazing. We're going to build a few days at this park into our BBNP plans, can't wait to revisit.

Georgia State Parks never seem to disappoint. Site 204 is right on the Lake Delanor, we listened to frogs as we sat by the campfire, enjoying the reflected scenery off the water. Clean restrooms/shower houses, hookups work great, enough cell service with a booster for me to work/Zoom, and a level site. While you can't ask for more than that, there is more! Many many beautiful, well marked hiking trails, kayak/canoe rentals, and FDR's Little White House and the Warm Spring pools are just a 20 minute drive away, and well worth the visit. 4 stars for noise because of the nearby tiny airport - mostly quiet but when a plane flies over, it's low.

We've stayed here three times and have decided it'll be our go to for quick trips from our home in Atlanta, especially in summer. At 3500 ft elevation, the summer humidity and bugs are a fraction of what they are down lower, and there's always a cool breeze. Great hiking trails, although more poison ivy than I'd like even in late summer, so be aware and carry Tecnu in your camp kit if you're allergic.

Do make reservations - you can usually do it pretty last minute, but in fall and spring weekends are often fully booked. We drive a truck camper and it's a cinch to get in and out of here, but as others have mentioned it's tougher for big RV's or long trailers/5ths. The sites are not simple to back in to. That said, for small travelers like us, the hook ups, free hot showers (cleaned twice daily), spectacular views, amazing sunrises AND sunsets from our campsite, and chill vibe of the other campers have us returning to this spot again and again. The walk-in tent sites are appealing for those tent camping. Not a long walk, but nice, quiet, distanced spots.

Clayton is a great town with everything you need including two grocery stores and a HUGE Ace Hardware, plus some great restaurants. Enjoy.
