Was there yesterday 10/2/22. Pretty much right off the freeway. Easy in/out.
It is free! But there is no water 🤷♀️
I was here 6/27/22 in a 30' trailer. Not sure how the reviewer below stayed for free, it's not free!
There are 2 loops. If you have a big rig do not go into the second loop. You won't fit in any spots and it is some tight turns in there!
The first loop only had a couple of sites big enough for bigger rigs. I walked it after just parking in the very first site that used to be for the camp host. I had cell service in my spot but others in the first loop did not.
It is a really pretty spot at almost 8000'!

Stayed one night 6/26/22 in my 30' trailer.
Was $34 with tax. You can park however you want wherever you want in order to use the hookups. The sites are set up for camping with horses/livestock I think. I took 2 spaces and parked sideways. Was good for a night!

I really enjoyed it here. I love sand dunes and hiking them! I paid $15 because I had a State Park Pass otherwise it's $19 and totally worth it! It is a small campground, w/e each site and a dump station. Place is kept nice. Some of the sites are laid out kinda weird with the shade/table....DO NOT reserve site 2! It is the worst spot in the park. It's very small and doesn't line up with the shade/table. It encroaches on site 1.
Very quiet and peaceful!

I marked yes for staying again, but it's really a maybe. It's a really nice park with beautiful views, nice trails. But there was no water, no showers, no dump and they still charged FULL price! So if it's like that next time I pass through I won't stay. If there was water or a dump available I would have stayed longer.

So first I have a few rants....this is a really nice park and well kept but...I think the person who designed it was not a camper! There are bathrooms down by the day use area, along with showers/foot showers to rinse sand as you come off the beach. The only other bathrooms are in the center of the park where all the hookup sites are! There are NO bathrooms close to the tent area or the primitive area, and no showers/foot showers as you come off the beach.
Next rant...I was in the primitive area, living off my solar, no generator. It was awesome out there to listen to the waves, birds, etc....UNTIL a truck pulls in right next to me (there was nobody else camping out there) and just sits in the truck and runs it non stop! It is a loud truck! I finally go out and the guy says his wife can't handle the heat! To make a long story short, I went to the office and talked to Kyle, Assistant Superintendent. He says they are not breaking any rules unless he runs it after 10pm. I said but I can't even sit outside now! Why does he get to enjoy his spot but now I can't? He did not seem to care that I was VERY upset and told me I could move (and pay more $$) or I can leave!! Nice customer service!! The guy/wife sat in that truck for 12 + hours with it running and the ac on and then finally left!!
Other than that I enjoyed my stay. The beach was right there and nobody was on that part of the beach!! Cost was $15 a night plus $5 day fee.

I was here 6/28/22 in a 30' trailer.
This was a nice stop for the night! Back in level spots on cement. Sites far apart. I was able to leave my truck attached. Trains come by often but not too loud. Baseball field across from sites. There was a game the night I was there but it was fine, they weren't there very late. Close to the freeway.
Oh almost forgot....the sprinklers came on in the evening and sprayed my trailer instead of the grass. Oh well.... :)

Really liked this park!! Wanted to stay longer but it was booked. The sites are really nice with a really nice table and stone shade structure. There are some nice trails right from the park to the Rio Grand. Water and 30 amp elec at site, dump on your way out.
I will say the sites are sort of a U shape drive through, I tow a 30' trailer and with my truck (20+ ft) I would say I was at just about the limit of getting through the site.

Spent one night here on my way west....it was very hard to figure out the camping spots! I finally just pulled up next to an electric and water post and settled in. It's $15 for water and electric.
I was hoping to see the lake but the campground in behind the dam, you have to walk or drive. It's not far but it was super windy.
It was very quiet. Only a few others were there for the night.
A man came by in the evening and collected the $15 (no cards!)
