If only all RV parks were like Mainstay...

Check in was seamless, owners extremely helpful in sharing local knowledge to ensure a memorable experience on the quiet side of Acadia. Sunsets were breathtaking. Grounds impeccable and clean. Super quiet at night. Night sky was amazing. And although you're fairly close to neighbors, because the park is small it didn't feel crowded at all. Everyone staying there appreciated the peaceful atmosphere and were extremely respectful of each other. I would highly recommend this RV park to anyone seeking an off-the-beaten path experience.

If you are looking for a quiet place to stay during the shoulder season, this is a great choice. Very close to all the activities that the upper part of Cape Cod has to offer. Nice tent sites. And the RV sites that aren't reserved for seasonal campers have just enough space between them to give you some privacy.

The reason that I gave a 4 star rating is because the website is a bit misleading discussing the amenities it promotes. There is no wifi, the cable didn't work and cell phone coverage is challenging. There is no staff regularly on-site until July. And the upper part of the campground is not currently available for booking as the owners are planning a major renovation of the area. A camper would be disappointed if these things matter to them.

My husband and I are regular travelers to the NH mountains but have never stayed at this campground. We found it to be very professionally run. They did a great job managing contactless check-in and all other necessary aspects to keeping the campers safe during COVID. The campground and its facilities are very clean.

My husband suffered a medical emergency while we were there and the staff and owners could not have been more accommodating to our situation; offering assistance with whatever was needed.

A couple of caveats, the campground is located right off NH 115, a busy state highway. Those who are particularly sensitive to noise may find this a little off-putting. It does quiet down overnight, and if your camper's windows are closed the noise is negligible. And many of the sites are fairly close together. Those who crave space between neighbors may want to try to get one of the more private sites.

Normally the KOA campgrounds place their sites so close together you feel like you’re in an apartment building. This one gave you a bit more space. The campground was immaculately kept and had one of the cleanest bathrooms I’ve ever seen. Close to Lake Huron and Huron National Forest. There were nightly trains going through and the locals were often using the ATV trails nearby. So if you’re looking for complete quiet, you won’t find it here

It was a delight to have such quiet and peacefulness at night and to be lulled to sleep by the rushing creek. While the refurbishment of this campground is a work-in-progress by the new owners, we couldn't have been more pleased with the acommodations. The owners keep an extremely clean and safe campground and are always ready to address any questions or concerns. They were ready for us on arrival, assisting with navigating through the narrow entryway and into our site. And unlike some other campgrounds that say they are pet-friendly and then have an exhaustive list of regulations that appear to be designed to discourage any pets, Kirklands really does welcome responsible pet owners and their well-behaved dogs. This is an important service to those of us who travel with our dogs.

Something to keep in mind for drivers who are new to towing or have extremely large rigs... the road to the campground is tight, very twisty, and ultimately turns into dirt. Be prepared to go slowly and take up the entire road if necessary.

Small, family owned campground. Most RV sites are reserved for seasonal campers. Tent sites are small but each have their own water hookup which is very cool. Bath house extremely well-maintained and clean. Other amenities such as the playground, recreation center, etc. could use a little TLC. This campground would be a challenge for x-large RVs or coaches as turns are quite tight. Location couldn't be better for exploring area activities. Mt. Greylock State Reservation is only 20 minutes away. Free wi-fi worked, but if one wanted to watch videos or do extensive projects on the internet, personal wi-fi enhancements would be necessary. Owners friendly, professional and easy to work with. They have done a fantastic job ensuring safety during COVID times.

Generally we’re not big fans of RV parks due to the lack of privacy. This one was perfect for our overnight on the way to Georgia. The buildings, grounds and facilities were immaculate. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. If you’re looking for a getaway in nature, this would not be it. If you’re looking for a safe and convenient place with easy access to the highway and area attractions, this is perfect.

Pros: on the water, very close to all Acadia activities on Mt. Desert Island, close to Bar Harbor for any necessary shopping, beautiful sunsets, fairly quiet considering the fact the campground was full, easy and seamless check in.

Cons: sites on top of each other - enough room for your slides and awnings though. Every little extra thing you want, except hot showers, is an extra fee. This would be OK with us if the nightly fee weren't so high already. Impossible to get an oceanfront site unless you book more than 12 months in advance. This is due to the fact that KOA invites you to book the same site for the same time period the next year when you are checking in. KOA does not enforce it's own lights out rules so we had several nights of having the neighbor's LED awning lights shining into our camper. Not ideal.

Great national forest off-grid camping. Sites offered plenty of room and privacy. If you’re lucky enough to score a site on the shoreline, even better. Campground well-kept. Easy access to Pictured Rocks and Grand Island.

A beautiful state park. We boondocked in Seneca Village and felt it was the best loop in the campground with the most privacy. Bathrooms very well kept with lots of hot water. Free showers a plus. Loved that we could hike right from our campsite and did so for three of our 4 days there. A caveat...if noise bothers you, know that Watkins Glen Racetrack can be heard from the campground and racing starts promptly at 8 am.
