This campground is a favourite from my youth with it’s private treed campgrounds and picture perfect sandy beach on the brown tannin-stained water of Arrowhead Lake, framed by towering white birch. The centrepiece of Arrowhead, however, is the incredibly beautiful and mesmerizing Stubbs Falls, accessible both by canoe along a gentle river and the Stubbs Falls hiking trail lined with giant white pine.

Everything you expect from an Ontario provincial park is here: comfort stations with showers, sani-dump station, garbage and recycling, electric at some sites and water spigots around the campground. They also have an amphitheatre and several hiking trails, including one to the lookout over Big Bend.

Located just north of the town of Huntsville with excellent cell signal throughout the park. Arrowhead is busy and popular. This time, I visited Arrowhead with a day pass but stayed at Lagoon Tent and Trailer park just down down the road, with it’s own beach sandy beach on the river and water access to Stubbs Falls.

Multiple camping areas are located within this large, free rec site campground. Some of the areas have had gravel spread out, making for good level footing but not always pretty. Other sections are a bit hilly with dirt footing. Some waterfront spots available. Lots of ATV trails criss crossing through this area means it is likely heavily used by ATV campers coming in with toy haulers.

Located inside Riding Mountain National Park, Lake Audy campground is located about 40 km away from the main campground Wasagaming and about 30 km of that is on gravel roads. However, the trip is well worth it: a long row of spacious, grassy campsites line the bluff directly overlooking Lake Audy. The sites are quite open to sunshine which is perfect if you have solar panels: there are no electric sites at Lake Audy.

Self-registration is straightforward and you can pay by credit card: $15.70 per night.

The campground is equipped with pit toilets and fresh water supply, though the water was already shut off during our stay in early October. The dump station thankfully remained open. The campground also offers a boat launch and free firewood with raised metal fireplaces at each site.

We could not access any reliable cell service here even with our booster. Full cell service was available about 8 kms south of the campground on 354, a block east of Lake Audy Road.

At the north end of the campground some trails lead north allowing for some dog friendly hiking and exploring with a lookout over Lake Audy. We saw lots of Magpies plus a sapsucker, chickadees and bluejays.

Just a one minute drive from the campground is the bison range with the access road running right through it over Texas gates to keep the bison inside. You can drive through the large enclosure for the potential for a close encounter with the bison and they even have a viewing platform with some interpretive info.

Riding Mountain National Park’s East Gate entrance is itself a National Historic Site. The impressive gate structure was built through the federal government’s depression era Unemployment Relief Act which provided funding to create employment in the 1930s.

Located in the town of Port Burwell and on the shores of Lake Erie, the campground is well-treed and has small, reasonably private campsites. Campground features comfort stations with showers, a sanidump, water spigots located throughout the park and electric sites available. Expect the campground to be thick with campfire smoke in the evenings in summer.

Campground is located a 15 minute walk to the beach area on trails or you can drive down the road to access the beach as there is ample parking available. From the parking area, you cannot see the water as you have a 5 min walk on pathways over a marsh and sand dunes to get to the beach itself. The beach at Port Burwell is protected by a berm that juts into Lake Erie: water is unusually calm and clear water and soft sand underfoot. A popular beach that is arguably nicer and a bit less crowded than Long Point.

A 20 min drive west will take you to Port Bruce Provincial Park, a day-use only park but your camping pass will get you access to the parking area or you may be able to find free street parking. Parking area at Port Bruce is very close to the beach in full view. This beach is also lovely, protected by a berm with soft sand and clean clear water. Overall, Port Burwell and Port Bruce were my favorite beaches on my trip.

Decent cell signal at Port Burwell but poor signal in Port Bruce.

This large scenic look out is actually a side loop off Chuckanut Drive and is separated from the main road by multiple large trees. We did not camp here but would have if we had known it was there. There are no signs prohibiting overnight parking and the pull out is well south of Larrabee State Park so you shouldn't have any problems.

There are other pull outs along this road but this one was the largest and prettiest by far. Super spacious area with room for multiple large RVs on a relatively level asphalt surface. Beautiful views overlooking Samish Bay and an interpretive sign.

RV Dump is located in the breezeway between two buildings with good accessibility and high clearance. Located less than 1 km drive off hwy 17 and close to the ferry terminal.

Dump is only open during business hours which are Mon – Fri 8 – 5 and Sat 9 – 5. Outside these hours, the dump cover is locked. During business hours it is unlocked but you need to go inside to pay the $7 fee. Car wash is open 24 hours. This is an RV supply store, dealer and repair shop so you can stock up on whatever you need while you are here. Unfortunately, they will not comp the dump fee for making a small purchase as the cost of pumping out the holding tank is quite high on the island. Please take care of this dump station so they can keep it open as it is the only dump not affiliated with an RV park at this end of the island.

Note there is a brand new Canadian Tire store directly across the street. Their parking lot isn’t huge but there would be space to park overnight and there was no prohibiting signage so you could potentially overnight there if needed. Best to get permission from the manager and make a purchase if you want to stay overnight – Canadian Tire sells auto supply and household goods so there is lots to choose from.

I did not stay here but camped at Okanagan Lake South and walked through. Sites are treed and more spacious than the south campground. Sites 75 - 81 have water views with site 79 being the largest and most private of the single sites while sites 75-76 and 80-81 are double sites.

Garbage and recycling are available and water spigots are located throughout the campground. No dump station at the campground but there is a public RV dump in the town of Summerland about 15 mins to the south. Lake water was refreshing for swimming on warm days when I was there in mid-May. Lake water was clear and pebble footing was clean not gunky. Highway noise was worst for sites 1 - 13 as they are the row closest to the highway.

From their website: North Park Campground is laid out in a series of three terraces overlooking Okanagan Lake North Campground is open May 17 - September 23, 2018. At North Campground during peak season, ALL campsites are reservable! During spring and fall, ALL campsites are available on a first come first serve basis. http://www.campokanagan.com/okanagan-lake-provincial-parks

Gorgeous 1 km trail leads from the garbage bins to the day use area at Okanagan Lake South Campground with incredible views over Okanagan Lake. Another trail connects the north and south campgrounds at water level but was blocked by a fallen tree.

Easy striking distance to Kelowna to the north and Penticton to the south. I recommend the Penticton Farmers Market at 100 Main St on Saturday mornings. It is huge! Go hungry and empty your fridge before you go!

A pleasant surprise off the Trans-Canada highway located about 1 hour south of Sudbury, this large provincial park features multiple lakes and the beautiful pink granite bedrock typical of the area. Campground roads are quite potholed so you will need to take it slow. Campground is treed but sites not completely private. Some sites back on to the lake and there are back country canoe-in campsites as well. Multiple gorgeous hiking trails to choose from and a pretty, sandy beach. There is also excellent cliff jumping opportunities into the deep lake with a variety of heights to choose from making this a fun, family-friendly activity.

Everything you expect from an Ontario provincial park is here: comfort stations with showers, sani-dump station, garbage and recycling, electric at some sites and water spigots around the campground. They also have an amphitheatre, canoe rental, sandy volleyball court.

Across the road from the campground entrance is Grundy Lake Supply Post, a large general store with supplies including delicious local smoked fish. You can buy gasoline and fill propane tanks here plus they have an ice cream shop. Good cell signal throughout the park.

Located right in Kelowna, BC, the Shell gas station at Gerstmar Rd and Hwy 33 has a dump station. Easily accessible for any size rig. Dumping is free with gas purchase, otherwise only $3. Fresh water fill is also available, however the water is shut off in late October for the winter.

Jones pond is a small shallow lake with a dirt boat launch area right off a paved road in the Adirondacks in New York State. There is one site right across from the boat launch area that is RV accessible, the rest are down a rutted dirt road only suitable for pickup trucks. Beware that the boat launch area is right at the apex of a curve in the road - backing in could put you at risk of being hit by traffic coming around the bend unless you put a spotter down the road to flag traffic.

Site 1 is beautiful, surrounded by a coniferous forest and with water access at the boat launch. The base is pine needles over dirt, some tree roots but relatively level and not too bumpy. We had some trees to drive around but were just barely able to U-turn through it with our minivan/small trailer combo. It could be tricky for larger rigs. We were able to stay 3 nights without registering or getting a permit but you can stay longer if you get a permit. We stayed here twice: both times the spot was available, in August and September 2015.

People do come and go for launching small boats/canoes/kayaks and to access the sites farther back down the rutted dirt road. Also it is adjacent to a paved road so there is some traffic noise as well. Cell signal was weak for us on our Canadian plans. The Paul Smith College Visitor Information Centre is just 7 miles away north up Hwy 30 with bathrooms, small garbage and recycling bins, free wifi, a butterfly house and many miles of beautiful hiking trails. We also got out on Jones Pond in a canoe and spotted bald eagles soaring overhead and a pair of loons.
