Located only a short distance up 150 toward Great Sand Dunes National Park. Be very careful turning in, if you have a big rig, the road is narrow over a 3 foot deep ditch. The right side tires on our 5th wheel, went into the ditch, but we made it across the castle guard with no other problems.
The area around the information signs at the entrance is very sandy, we had to go to 4WD.
We took our 40ft 5th wheel up the road (lot of washboarding) about 1/2 mile and parked in a fairly level area on the left side of the road. The site is in a little gully, that blocked most of the traffic noise from 150. The access road is fairly well traveled during the day, and some folks were apparently trying to set land speed records in their vehicles.
The first night we had one other tent camper in the area, the second, we had a small TT, a class B and a tent camper, but there was still plenty of room for all.
If you continue up the access road, there are a few trails up into the mountains, and additional camping. I felt I could easily get my rig another 1/2 mile or so further in.
3 bars of Verizon 4G, 15 minutes to the dunes.
Bring a fly swatter, there is a gang of biting flies all along the road.

We stayed here for 2 nights tent camping, but this review is good for RVs as well(we have a 40ft 5th wheel). There are many sites back in the woods, many will accommodate a 40+ ft rig. That said, if you have a bigger rig, or you don't have a 4x4, you would be well advised to scout the area out. In most cases the roads are fairly descent, but several have a LOT of sand on them and it can get quite deep.

Since this dispersed camping area is on a main road to Bryce, it does get a lot of traffic, even at night. Also there are quite a few OHVs that use the area, so you can expect noise and dust from those as well.

Bring what you need with you, town is a bit of a distance away and things are pretty pricey.

While Bryce is the big draw, there is a lot to do here, Red Canyon is down the road about 2 miles and the roads Forest Roads across the road can take you to some very nice views that rival Bryce and are much less crowded. Trail and road maps are available at the Visitor Center. If you like to sit outside after dark and look at the stars, you won't be disappointed.

PLEASE: Leave no trace!

I really hate to give this one away, but this is a fantastic place to stay while in the Durango area.
Located on the side of a mountain, the sites are mostly level, with lots of space between you and your neighbors.
Lots of shade if you choose, or great access to the sun for our solar. Mesa Verde and Durango are 20ish miles in either direction, with Mancos, just a short drive away.
If you have a big rig, you probably shouldn't go past the power lines located about 1.5 miles up the road, you probably won't be able to turn around after that and the road gets pretty rough.
Bring so far from everywhere means great start watching most nights.

We spent the night here on our way to Texas.
This park is amazing. Well kept, clean, quiet, a nice place to spend a few days.
The site was good size for our 40' rig and level, with 2 picnic tables.
Our only complaint is the 50amp service was too far for our electric hookup to reach, so we had to settle for 30 amps.
The resort is a bit offf the beaten path, but worth the extra drive.

Small town, big park. Great place to bring the family for a day, or even a week or two! The campground shares space with the town park, offering inexpensive camping,a playhouse, stage and river access.
Camping is first come, first serve with no reservations, max stay is 14 days, but you can leave for a week, then return for another 14. Tent camping is only allowed for 4 days. The bathrooms and showers are dated, but well kept and spotless. With 20 or 30 amp services, some sites have full hookups (by road) as well.
On site boat ramp and fishing dock.
Generally it is very quiet here, especially at night.
Downtown is a few blocks away, and has a taproom and a Dollar General that is nicely stocked.
Verizon 4G, but was good enough for work related zoom calls.

We stayed here during a recent heat wave, with local temperatures hitting the low 90's during the day, dropping to low of 60 at night. That said we didn't need our AC.
Our site was fairly level, gravel, with a little shade, our rig's auto leveling feature was able to handle it, but the front of the rig was quite a bit off the ground. The sites are large, each with a fire ring and picnic table. No hookups! There is water available by each toilet.
The camphosts are friendly and do a fantastic job keeping the campground clean and orderly. The bathrooms are vault toilets, but they are kept spotless and mostly odor free.
Firewood is available for $7 a bundle from the staff.
There is no dump station on site, but there is one at the campground a mile down the road for $15.

Spent the night here on our way north to Colorado. Very easy to find with Google maps, right off 87.
The sites are fairly level, with the surrounding area being gravel. Back in site, but no problem getting our 40' rig in.
Lake is behind the RV and down a hill.
4 bars on our Verizon phones.

Located within walking distance to the small town center, campground is easy to find in a small Kansas town. Hidden in a residential area that is very quiet at night.
Stopped here while driving through the area. Gas and food prices in the area are reasonable and the locals are very friendly.
20 or 30 amp service.
72 hour stay limit, but I doubt anyone would notice or care if you stayed a day or two longer.
Jock's is the local bar, within walking distance to a laundry mat, library and the post office.
Alcove Springs is close by and worth a look if you have the time.

We tent camped here for Labor Day Weekend, there were LOADS of campers (and OHVs) everywhere, though we had our site to ourselves. Our site was located off FR 048 and was a bit dusty from the OHV traffic. After dark, the traffic on the road died down and made it a perfect location to view the stars. Loads of hiking in the area.

The road was a bit bumpy in places but almost any size rig should be able to find a spot. Since it is on the side of a mountain, level sites are hard to find, those that are level fill up FAST! Our only visitors were a herd of sheep "passing through", but we saw signs of deer and elk.

We could make calls on our cell phones, but no data service.

No water nearby and it is quite a way to town for food or fuel (20+miles)

Many campsites located to the East and West of CR 31 North West of Lake George, CO. Site(s) in the pictures were taken of the first loop off FR 230 to the EAST of CR-31. To get here you must drop the fence across the road, enter, the close the fence. Travel 100 yards South East to the first loop on your right.
Lots to do in the area, unless you are city-fied.
While there are at least 5 sites on this loop, it is against boon-docking etiquette to camp in an occupied area. Most people stay about 100 yards apart. ASK before you pull into an occupied loop.
Great view of the surrounding mountains in these sites.Established fire rings in the loops, mostly level sites, usually go pretty quick on a weekend, but few people out here during the week.
Need firewood or water? Spruce Grove NFS campground is about 3 miles away. Great place to swim, pan for gold, tube or go for a great hike above the surrounding area. We refilled our water here and dumped garbage.
China Wall, a favorite off road draw is nearby. Cell service is spotty, nearest free wifi is at the Lake George Public Library about 10 miles away. Never turn on the TV, don't know if there is any stations.
TIPS: Looking for a site, drive SLOWLY along the forest roads and look for established sites or roads leading to sites. Park your car/rig off the road and walk in to see if vacant.
Don't want to be bother by others looking for a site? Post a sign at the entrance of the road where you are camping. This indicates to other boon-dockers the site is taken.
