Beautiful spot, just be aware that it has an active bear population. We saw fresh tracks as we pulled in and new ones the next morning. They did not approach our trailer but did walk within 40 ft, would have been great to see but slept through it. If you are tenting you might sleep better at the nearby provincial park which (we read anyway) has an electric fence around the tenting area.

The views are incredible and the site is mostly shielded from the road. We stayed with 21ft trailer pulled with 4x4 pickup, would have been fine with larger but scout as it has quite variable surfaces from cobbled rock to loose glacial silt. Got hints of cell signal in booster with "Lucky" which I think is on the Telus network. Not data usable but you might get texts out, again with booster.

Couldn’t justify the cost so didn’t stay. $10 would have been fine but 20 for a not flat parking lot offends my sensibilities.

We planned on staying only one day here but decided to stay longer. Note that you will need a snopark or discovery pass to stay so not completely free. We found a ton of trails for hiking and biking around the area. You can see a map at http://www.methowtrails.org/trail-maps.

There is also a climbing area just to the south of the parking lot. If you are just there for the night at least cross the road and take the trail past the gate for a 1/4 mile and have a sit at the nice bench and see the sunset.

Tough to get too excited about a gravel parking lot, but it was quiet and gives you access to so much in the area. The onsite pit toilet was clean but was pretty abundant with flies was about the only downside.

This location marker is actually two different areas that are very close to each other. The one is a forest service campground with picnic tables fire rings and outhouses but no water. There used to be water but the cistern got contaminated and they shut it off. As of 2018 ignore any info to the contrary there is no water. Everything else about the campground is fine. The sites are varied some are long enough for a trailer some are not. It is busy so luck of the draw. The campground has a host new this year but there is no fee.

There is also a dispersed camping area just past the campground. There is a loop to the left right past the campground. The first right is very muddy with water filled ruts. I would not touch it without lifted 4x4 and winch and desire to get muddy. The second left is better, still 8-10 inch ruts but a couple of marginal sites before you hit the muddy part of the loop. Two better sites are further up the river rock road, one just at the fence where it says locked gate ahead and one just past that on the left, though that also looks like it could get muddy.

Was able to post this from the site on verizon with booster and antenna but was not able to make any phone calls so pretty marginal signal.

Tight quarters but great place to explore Talkeetna. You need to walk to explore Talkeetna and you are 2 blocks from the hub at this site. We just fit with 43’ of overall length (21’ trailer and pickup). Double slides probably would not work. It is really just an asphalt pad with two parking slots. That being said the location is everything. Stop in to see museum and film at the Salmon center

Lots of trains going by all night about 200 yards away. Had the AC blower on for noise in a well insulated camper and still got woken up several times. Those trains like their horns. Other than that it is functional, it looks like the county fair grounds and you can park in a gravel area or in very close sites on grass. Rained quite a bit before we got there so gravel was the only option. Water and dump station available, you probably could even do full time water and electric without a problem if you got the right site. Walking distance to grocery and shopko. Right off of 29. Would stay again for overnight but wouldn't stay for more than a day. Maybe during the fair there are 110 sites but at normal times I would say more like 20. 3 overnighted the day we stayed.

The review that complains about the pavement is spot on you will need to take it slow from the first sign announcing the park boundary all the way in. Some of the worst spots are right as you come in so take it slow, don't believe the 35 mph. The rest of the park is nice the lake is drained but it just looks like a nice prairie so not a big minus unless you boat or fish. There are also 3 pretty nice mountain bike trails maintained by the local IMBA chapter 3,4 and 6 miles. The restrooms are nice. 28 for full hookup site, I think $2 more for premium which gets you 50 amp instead of 30A

Similar to the other Trace campgrounds it is free with flush toilets and few other amenities. This has a water point unlike Rockey springs. Good cell signal with Verizon and att everything is pull through but kinda weird as several sites share a pull through. Works best for tents or small units we have a 21ft trailer and are all the way tongue down to get level.

Nice county park. Right now 2017 the lake is drained but still a nice area with a number of hiking trails. It is about 15-20 minutes from I80. Sites have 30A electrical water is available as well as a shower house
