I exaggerate, but it felt that way at the time. We were sick. Trying to get home to Montana from Arizona. Had been driving all day. Tired. Rain starts. Wife sees this place up ahead on Campendium. Sleet starts when we pull in. Its closed. Wife calls the number and the guy says "You bet, stay anywhere you want". I would rate this place an 8.

It is close to the interstate. So very easy access but highway noise. Suitable for bigger rigs. Some pull through. Gravel or asphalt surface. Picnic tables, fire pits, rain shelters. Pit toilets. It sounds like new management this year. He says they will open next week (about April 1). 4-5 bars 4G. Stop in and say thanks from me.

Heard about this place a few years ago and finally came in. Well worth it. Arrived Sunday afternoon at the tail end of a cold snap. First morning was 10 degrees. Everyone had left by late Sunday and we had the place to ourselves.

Agree with msmull below about camping in the area to the right when you reach the ledge. We have a 30 ft trailer and were able to navigate into a good position. The area inside the fence probably supports about 15 visitors and we would not have been able move in there if there had been many other campers. Definitely walk ingress and egress if you are a little bigger. For smaller units, there are spots along the rim for miles to the west along a sometimes quite rocky road. Also for larger rigs, turn east at an intersection about a mile before the rim and there are a half dozen designated campsites along that road. These are big sites, not in sight of each other, not in view of the canyon, with pretty easy access on a pretty good road.

Agree with Virginian below about Buckhorn Draw. Well worth a visit. The road is as good as the road coming into the Wedge. Suitable for big rigs. The campground at the bottom had a few sites for big rigs but not many.

We spoke to the ranger about leaving the area either east on the Hwy 6 cutoff road or south to I-70. He said the road to I-70 is better than the Hwy 6 cutoff, which has some tight turns on the east end of it. Both roads were unoiled gravel. The road into the wedge is oiled because of the gypsum mine you pass on the way in. From Castle Dale, we went mostly 40-50 MPH to the intersection at mile 13, 30 MPH up the road to the Wedge except for 20 MPH the last couple miles. This is very good access.

The place is quiet, great views, clean pit toilets, good Verizon service, and for free! The Good Water Rim bike trail is about 15 miles of single track biking rated green. We are novice bikers and only did half of it. There are places where we were uncomfortably close to the rim. It was spearheaded by the previous Castle Dale Sheriff. He went over the rim one time to a 20 foot fall. He survived, but it didn't treat him well. It is a fabulous trail either hiking or biking.

This is a great area for OHV. Lots of suitable roads all over this country.

If I had to complain about something, it would be a lack of variety of hiking trails. It would be nice to have a trail down to the San Rafael from the Wedge, but you would have to rappel the Wingate at river's edge. You shouldn't hike on untrampled cryptobiotic, so we were limited to roads and the one trail. That said, we will be back to explore more of the area.

It's not that this campground was low quality. It's just that I like more remote camping. I agree with what previous reviewers have said. I would also add that we stayed at site 29, which was advertised as having 50 amp but was way too small for a rig having a 50 amp plug. Our trailer was out into the roadway a bit. We were told that when this campground was being extended, sites 27, 28, and 29 were planned to be larger but while digging they ran into buried artifacts and stopped digging. So those sites are small with 50 amp service. Our neighbors with 20' and 22' trailers fit nicely in their spots.

The main problem with this campground is how unlevel the campsites are. We dropped into site #7 when we got here and I think lucky to do so. During our 6 days here, I'll bet 5-6 people pulled into site #6 and could not make it work. All the sites would be great for shorter rigs though.

The bathroom was always clean and warm. There are showers and a dump station. The bathrooms are big enough to hold a dance. We were here during 4 days of high wind so there wasn't a lot of interaction with other campers.

This is a good spot for some local touring. We went up to the lookout Montjeau peak, the White Oak ghost town, the amazing petroglyph site 30 miles south of here, and some hiking trails east of here in the mountains.

Arrived after dark Saturday, Oct. 28. Left before dawn in the morning. Needed a place to rest after the after Tremonton to Spanish Fork I-15 white knuckle road race and this was perfect. Pulled in, went to bed, and pulled out. Half dozen other rigs there. Lots of room. It is a big sloping hillside but there are flat-ish spots. Looked like some folks were settled in for a while.

The turn off is near mile marker 195 on Hwy 6 about 20 miles SE of Spanish Fork. There is a brown Sheep Creek sign on Hwy 6 indicating the turn is coming up, and there is a left turn lane. It's only a half mile up the paved Sheep Creek road to the well marked turn into the camping area.

Did not check cell service. Only 4 stars because this is not our idea of a destination. It is perfect for what we needed and I expect to stay there often, overnight, in the years to come.

We arrived in a snowstorm and by the time we left, 3 days later it was nearing t-shirt weather. Our neighbors, who had been here for 2 weeks remarked that it had snowed 6 times since they had come and melted away just as quickly.
GC Railway Park was a great place to stay on our way to the Grand Canyon. It is a large RV Park with both pull through and back in sites and can accommodate the largest of RV's and coaches. We have a 30' trailer and we were one of the smallest rigs here. The sites are all 100% black top with small landscape rock areas separating them. The rock area holds the hookups and a small picnic table. The park does require pads under jacks/stabilizers and a ramp for the septic hose. The sites are adequate even with slides extended. There is a fitness trail/ dog walk path circling the park. Grand Canyon Brewery/ Distillery is a stone throw away and the Bill Williams Trailhead is approx. 3 miles away.
GC Railway Park is one of the cleanest parks we have stayed in. The laundry ( $1.75 wash and $1.50 dry)and restrooms/ showers are key card entry and are centrally located as well as garbage and recycling. There is also a picnic pavilion with a large fire pit and benches, 2 BBQ's and picnic tables for guests to use. Other park amenities include: convenience store, pet kenneling, wifi, cable, playground for kids, basketball and volleyball courts, horseshoes, swimming pool, hot tub, and fitness room. Most of these are located at the adjacent hotel, but are free for RV'ers to use. We did not use any of the hotel amenities. The one thing to keep in mind is that this IS an active train depot. If you don't like trains and the noise they make, this is NOT the place for you. The tracks run directly behind the park and while they don't run 24/7 they do pass through frequently during the day. We did hear the train whistles during the day but not at night.
If you are a Passport member, they offer a 50% discount. There are certain black out dates for using PA so check the website. We stayed in a 65' pull through with hookups for $33/ night including tax. It is an easy on/easy off to get here. Take exit 163 off of I-40, go south on Grand Canyon Blvd., turn west on Franklin Ave. RV check in is at the Grand Canyon Convenience Store.

We would agree with many previous reviewers that the location is good for visiting canyonlands, Arches, and Moab sites. And I think that is the main selling point here. The campground is in some rolling hills of Pinion and Juniper. You should not walk away from roads or trails so as not to destroy the cryptobiotic crust.

We prefer remote solitary sites and this is not that, but the campground is clean, as quiet as you might expect on a beautiful weekend in the Moab area, and about equidistant to the two parks. It is a little more than a half mile off the paved 313 on a fairly rough graveled road. The pit toilets are quite clean. There is a garbage dumpster, but no water. Maybe only a fourth of the sites would support our 30 ft trailer.

There is much single track biking right from the campground. One end of the White Rim trail is close. The graveled road goes a long way past this campground, maybe to the Green River, and there are some dispersed campsites out that road. Nothing for larger rigs though, and the road gets more rough.

If we ever did come back to the Moab area, we would probably stay here.

Pulled in on 11/8/23 to stay one night but left right away. We pulled into the first area off Hwy 12. It was very easy access, suitable for bigger rigs, level enough with planning, but it was so dry and dusty and windy we decided to move on. Still plenty of open spots.

We arrived at Lees Ferry Campground early afternoon mid week and there were about a dozen sites still available. By 7PM the campground was filled up. Many campers stay one night as this is a popular put in spot for floaters on the Colorado River. The main road is paved and each site is graveled. There are 51 sights in all, varying in size to accommodate small trailers to motorcoaches. All sights have a picnic table with shade covering plus a firepit. There is potable water available. Sights are an adequate size to provide some privacy. The campsite has 2 flush bathrooms however, only one was open. It was fairly clean when we arrived but was pretty dirty after a couple of days. Toilets were in poor working order and needed to be fidgeted with in order to get them to flush. The dump station, located about half a mile away, is in a large gravel lot with an easy turn around. It was still winterized when we visited. A big plus for this campground is the scenery. It is spectacular! We managed to go on 2 hikes, Cathedral Wash (3 miles RT) and Spencer Trail( 4.5 miles RT). Both were great hikes! The fruit trees at the Lonely Dell Ranch were just starting to bloom. When fruit is ripe, campers are allowed to pick and eat. We did view two Condors on the Navajo Bridge just down the road.

Pulled in to an empty campground on a Monday last day of February and was delighted to see all the big beautiful Ponderosa trees. Reminded me of home. I would agree with what previous reviewers have said with the following additions/changes.

We had 2 bars Verizon. Only a few of the sites have ramadas. But shade is more plentiful than sun here. We survive on Solar and we picked the best site to support our batteries. There are 11 sites here and we saw some folks come through for single nights but this campground stayed pretty empty. The one pit toilet was only satisfactory but my wife begs to differ. We picked up a lot of small trash around our campground. Cathy would call this campground "tired/worn" We never took the bikes out because we are getting a little tired of what goatheads do to our tire pressure. But we were out on a hiking trail almost every day. We never went in the store close by but could see there is no fuel/gas there. Both are available in nearby Reserve, and nearby Apache RV Park has all the usual services plus propane.

There was no host here and no garbage collection. We could hear the nearby hwy 12 occasionally but it was never bothersome. The sites were big and flat and spaced well apart. You could even pull in with the tank Werelobo mentions. It could get pretty messy when wet, but vehicle traction would be OK. Our main dislike was the wind but which was much mitigated by being in the forest.

I venture to say this campground is packed during fall hunting season. Lots of bones spread around the campground. Lots of antlers mounted on nearby houses. We saw some elk on our hikes but never heard them. They are pretty quiet in the spring.

We went both directions on the CDT about 15 miles east of here. We did the Frisco Divide trail about 8 miles west of here. There is a short trail to an old homestead just beyond the Apache RV park. There is a short trail to some petroglyphs just a quarter mile from the campground and the road past the campground goes up into national forest with a lot of side roads to bike and open country to wander across. We left the campground most every day for much of the day and always came back to it with our site unmolested.

Where the CDT crosses Hwy 12, there is a little bit of dispersed camping on both sides of the road. We also saw some along the dirt road to the Frisco Divide trailhead but only along the first part of the road. Not once you start crossing creeks though.

This was one of our favorite sites travelling the southwest for several months, mostly because of the surrounding country side, but also the convenient camping.
