This is an odd place that appears to still be under development. Directions sent us way off path down a difficult gravel road that ended nowhere but we found the place by looking for Indian Bay RV park (Not Indian bay campground). I told the young woman at the desk this and she nodded like it made sense but gave no explanation. She took our $20 (cash only) and told us to take any site. But it took us awhile to find a site because the camp ground is full of unoccupied RVs. I assume they are seasonal occupants to fish the river but it leaves the campground feeling kind of creepy. The only current “facilities” are a washroom and shower in the office available when it’s open (and right by the main desk so no privacy at all) or one outhouse (which seems clean enough). We were tired from a long drive and not a lot of options nearby so found a flat spot (no picnic table), and got to see a beautiful sunset. So there is that. But we were sorry we had not stopped at some nice boondocking sites on the ocean an hour earlier.

We stayed one night as we travelled the Blue Ridge Parkway pre-season. We did not require hookups in our camper van so were placed on a hill overlooking the campground and had the place almost entirely to ourselves (the RV sites were set apart and were perhaps more crowded together). Beautiful sunset and sunrise. Clean and adequate bathhouse facilities. Had trouble getting wifi service from our specific spot.

The section for tents (and where we stay in our small van as we don't need hookups) is relatively quite small and off in a corner of this large resort. That's fine. Not really a great camping experience but fine for a night. This would be a great place to stay with a bunch of kids or for a family reunion - especially during the summer when the pools are open - and even off-season there were kids riding bikes everywhere. That's a somewhat different experience than what we are looking for, but this was fine for a one-night stop on our way through the area. The bathhouses were a little far from the tent section (which seems odd as they are more likely used by tent campers) but were otherwise great. Large, clean, great showers.

The campground felt pretty crowded, with only one bath house fairly far from the tent sites. Lots of litter, and the water quality was poor (red-colored from rusty pipes). It was fine, and lots of families looked like they were having a terrific time. Clearly many RV's are there for the season, and many families gathered together socially, so it may not have felt crowded to them. I will say that we had one of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen.

We got to Chincoteague on a very rainy day off-season. There are not a lot of camping options in the area. Tom's Cove was less expensive than the KOA. It was pretty dreary in the rain. Lots of permanent RV's and mobile homes, many Trump flags (which certainly added to the dreariness). But when we woke in the morning to a beautiful sunny day, the campsite we had on the bay was lovely. Not the best shower ever, but more than adequate hot water. Check out at 4:00 was nice as then we could ride around the island without having to worry about parking the van. I'm curious about why there aren't more options in the area, but Tom's was fine. I think in-season it would be more crowded than I would like, but given that we were the only people staying in the section without hookups, we really were able to enjoy it.

We stayed one night on a cross country trip, so did not take time to explore the Land Between the Lakes area, but enjoyed walking around the campground watching the herons and egrets on the lake at dusk. We were not officially on a lake side site but had a great view of the water and easy access to the beach nonetheless. Sites are pretty close together, but since the focus was on the water it didn’t feel problematic. Bathhouse was clean and not used by many since mostly people are there in big RVs.

We were driving through and needed a place for the night - stopped at a nearby ACE campground that was nice but HOT and BUGGY so were so happy to keep going and find this campground, high on a point overlooking the lake. It was windy - which picked up quite a lot with an incoming storm and had me worried about the stability of our small van! - but that kept the bugs away! We enjoyed wandering down on the beach and watching the beautiful sunset and approaching storm. These are wide open campsites, so the complaints I see of no privacy is accurate but the campground was not crowded when we were there - and I thought the openness was part of it's charm as the views were so lovely.

We stayed here one night as we travelled the Blue Ridge Parkway before the season really hit, so it was easy to get a spot. It is a lovely campground and a beautiful lake. Very quiet and peaceful while we were there and likely a different experience when full but even then it feels nicely laid out to minimize noise.

This was kind of an odd place, maybe because we were off season. The loop with electricity was full, with the rest of the camp ground empty (9 loops total). Which was nice, but not at all reflective of what the place is probably like in season, especially weekends. It was great being able to put on Jack’s Creek River here. Showers were nice, though quite a distance from the camp sites. Gnats were awful, for what that’s worth. Also, again because it was off-season, the absence of any information (no hosts present) was somewhat problematic, especially in the absence of cell service. And, going into town for info led us to interact with more un-masked people than we’ve encountered since the beginning of the pandemic. We did have BEAUTIFUL day on the river.

We stopped here as we were traveling through, arriving mid-afternoon. There were lots of spots to choose from even on a Friday night. Nice level spots, lots of privacy. As a special treat we discovered that the bike trail from the campground led to a historical route through Revolutionary War sites, so we thoroughly enjoyed experiencing a bit of history as part of our camping experience.
