We got to Chincoteague on a very rainy day off-season. There are not a lot of camping options in the area. Tom's Cove was less expensive than the KOA. It was pretty dreary in the rain. Lots of permanent RV's and mobile homes, many Trump flags (which certainly added to the dreariness). But when we woke in the morning to a beautiful sunny day, the campsite we had on the bay was lovely. Not the best shower ever, but more than adequate hot water. Check out at 4:00 was nice as then we could ride around the island without having to worry about parking the van. I'm curious about why there aren't more options in the area, but Tom's was fine. I think in-season it would be more crowded than I would like, but given that we were the only people staying in the section without hookups, we really were able to enjoy it.

We stayed at Tom’s Cove as a last minute change of plans. The staff is super helpful and accommodating, after initially calling and being told there were no vacancies for a rig our size we received a call back that they just had a cancellation. They are cash only and reservations are typically mail-in.
It is an older, well established campground that I can remember from the 80’s and while well maintained is largely seasonal and long-term campers. Nice beach, fishing pier and established trees in some areas. The pull through sites we were in had plenty of length and width to accommodate large rigs but the roads are pretty tight through the campground. Don’t go expecting ‘camping’ this is more beach RV ‘resort’.
Overall we were pleased with our stay and would visit again.
