This place is way off the highway but with that you get views and silence. We are off roaders and the area has lots to explore. We enjoyed the hot springs and camped a ways aways so we could see if it was occupied or not. There are three good hot springs here and during the week we had one of them to ourselves.
We felt very safe and enjoyed the burros that passed through every night. They make a little noise but where else can you camp with wild donkeys. We did have decent cell service just a little slow.

We camped near Giant Rock about a quarter mile before the main camping area. We made it in on the dirt/sand road in 2wd towing a 34 foot fifth wheel. We didn't camp in the usual place everyone else does because of too many nails around the multiple fire rings. Our spot was perfect just before the the main area on the right next to a nice rock outcropping. Peaceful and quiet as we stayed on a weekday and the stars were amazing.

Road into this camping area is horrible. Eight miles of washboard road. This area where the hot spring is located is owned by the county. The area has been improved with a vault toilet and trash cans that were overflowing. The tub is small for how many people visit this place. We were there during the week and camped by ourselves but had a few locals show up to use the tubs.
Our camping area was wide open with nice views but had lots of face flies and other flying bugs everywhere. One night was enough for us. No cell signal or radio stations.

One of the worst places we have ever stayed. Let's write this review with the GOOD and the BAD.

GOOD-We got a spot for the night with full hook-ups. Cable was included which was nice since too many trees for satellite. Nice lady guided us in and out of our site since it was tight for our 34 ft. fifth wheel. A little creek ran along the campground.

BAD-Steep grade going into campground. Check in office is super messy and dirty and attached to a mobile home with crying kids and barking dogs. I think there was only 2-3 sites that were actually campers camping, all other sites were long term people and some campsites looked almost abandoned. We spent only one night as we didn't feel too safe and it was so damp and dreary.

Before we left we drove to Curly Jack campground which was less than a half mile to check it out. We had thought about staying there before we checked into Elk Creek campground but decided we wanted power.
Curly Jack was nice and deserted and peaceful so we moved over there. Ahh finally some relaxation. I guess power isn't everything

This review is correct. We went off the first persons review about staying at the Pony Express information kiosk. There is no camping allowed at the kiosk. We pulled in at dusk and had no other option but to stay at Sand Mountain which was fine since we wanted to explore the dunes. However, one night of camping cost us $40. You can only pay for a week pass or annual pass. We sucked it up and pages up.

We are duners and are used to the noise and dust these places bring. As a sand enthusiast the dunes looked small but after exploring there is quite a large area with many trails into the mountains. Plenty of trash cans and nice vault toilets.

After looking at all the campgrounds in Half Moon Bay area we picked this park because it had the biggest sites. We didn't want to be stacked up against other rigs. We have a 34 ft. fifth wheel and we had plenty of room.

The Good- Big sites. Friendly check in. Decent wifi with good speed at our site. Next door to Camerons Pub with a decent selection of beer. Best part was the bike and walking trails just down the road. We rode right along the ocean and took the paved path all the way to Half Moon Bay Brewery. We used this campground as a base for basically sleeping. We explored the area and especially loved the biking paths.

The Bad- Lots of campsites with long term people living there. Close to the highway and no water view. Don't stay here if you're wanting to eat at Camerons Pub. Good for a beer and watching some sports but food and service is below average. Tent sites are a joke, right along the road and hardly enough room for a tent and car.

Bottom line is we will probably stay here again but not for the campground but to get out and explore the area more.

This was our first visit to Ponderosa. We are Thousand Trails members and didn't pay a nightly fee. Camped in section D in mid February with two other couples. Campsites were nice and roomy but only had water and electric. No bathroom in our section which also had a tent area. Seems a bit inconvenient especially for tent campers. Spent a lot of time exploring the area and visiting a few breweries. Planning to come back in warmer weather and try the river for some rafting.
No AT&T service in the park or surrounding area.

Loved this park for its location. We wanted a nice park to be our base while we explored the area. We camped at the end of the season in mid October. The park usually closes at the end of October due to the threat of flooding. Park was very well maintained and sites where easy to get in to and big rig friendly. Not a lot of privacy but we basically just used the campground for sleeping and were gone most of the day. The staff was absolutely wonderful and very knowledgeable about the area. The drive through the Redwoods if beautiful and we managed with our big rig.

We visited the Lost Coast, Fern Canyon, Shelter Cove and all the nearby towns. We are huge craft beer enthusiasts and there are at least 6 great breweries in the area. Definitely give Eel River a try in Fortuna.

No AT&T cell service but the free wifi worked well inside our trailer.

Gorgeous views of the Sierra mountains and the Owens River right outside our door.
We stayed here two nights during the week in late May and almost had the place to ourselves. The friendly host put us in a huge space that we could park sideways in to enjoy the view.
The campground has no hookups but you can fill your water tank when you get here. Generators are allowed 8am-10pm. They have a bathhouse but charge $2 for showers. Our site had a great firepit and table. Satellite was easy to get and we had great AT&T coverage on our phones. Very quite park but I'm sure it gets busy during the peak fishing season. The campground is right on the Owens River which is know for great fishing. The campground has a well stocked store and has ice and firewood.

What can you say about an RV park at a casino on a desolate stretch of I5. We used the campground as a place to rest our heads after a long day of travel from Oregon to our home in California. We had a long day of mechanical issues and Rolling Hills was a good spot to pull in, turn on the air conditioning, take a shower and hop in bed.

There was a very nice woman that checked us in at midnight. All the sites are pull through which made it nice that we didn't have to unhook for our short stay. Sites where fairly roomy and clean. We had breakfast at the casino buffet and headed on down the road. Would stay here again. It was reasonable and definitely quieter than staying in the truck lot with all the running big rigs.

A cool amenity at this casino that we didn't use was a they have dog kennels available to board your dogs.
