Camping on the beach....first you HAVE to air down all your tires including your trailer if you want any chance of making it to a camping spot. Four wheel drive is a must. It's handy to have a friend along that can pull your ass out when you get stuck. FYI, trailers don't turn well in the sand so don't stop until you absolutely like your spot and be prepared to have sand everywhere.

First off I'm going to say that we are duners. Responsible duners. I have a love hate relationship with this place. I love the $10 a night and camping at the beach. Love riding from camp. Love the casual atmosphere of being able to run generators when I want and play music or whoop it up if we want. Great time when we have a group and can make our own little camp with our trailers in a circle.

Hate how crowded it gets. Last trip had an entire tent city set up next to us. Not sure what they were doing about bathrooms, maybe using the sand as a giant litter box. People can ride 24 hours a day. Not much enforcement and not sure if there are any actual rules on noise. Too small of an area for all the riding going on.

This is our least favorite place to ride but it is the closest to our house. Usually only camp here once a year and 4 days on the sand are my max.

Needed a spot to stay with our big trailer overnight and this lovely little campground had a few spots that we could get our 34 ft 5th wheel into. Reservations are currently only online and we were able to find a spot long enough. Site 18 is one of the easiest to get into with a long rig. Campsite was beautiful and one of the nicest BLM parks we have ever stayed in. Beautiful bathrooms with free clean showers. Sites are nicely separated and nice trails to walk along the river.

We have stayed here a few times on our way through Eureka. Open parking lot style camping out of town but right on the water. No hook-ups but there is water available. There are bathrooms and pay showers but we have never used them.

BEWARE-the area is frequented at night by transients that live in their cars and squat at the campground at night. They are usually gone in the morning. Don't leave anything outside you don't want stolen. Also seriously beware of the raccoons. They come out at night in packs.

Campers at the Midway Campground in the Imperial Sand Dunes are mostly dune enthusiasts. We camp here to be close to the dunes but far enough away to get a little peace and quite. The camping area runs parallel with the highway but the noise isn't too bad.

We like the "campground" because we can ride our RZR from camp. The campground is a road that everyone parks parallel with views of a sand highway, dunes, border fence and views into Mexico. There are several clean vault toilets and garbage dumpsters across the road that come in handy when staying for several days.

A permit is required to stay and can be purchased on site or off site at area gas stations for a reduced price. I think off site is $35 for 7 days and $40 on site.

The area is safe as there are lots of border patrol driving around and a few rangers. If you're riding in the dunes you can access Gordons Well and Glamis from this camping area without loading up to get over the freeway. There is a bridge that they allow OHV's to drive over.

We stay here almost every New Years and have fun exploring the dunes and taking trips into Yuma. A border crossing into Mexico is also only a few miles away.

We did not stay here but frequent this campground often. Our trailer is too big to get down the road but thought others would like a review and pictures.

Orr Lake is a secluded lake with about 8 campsites and 3 newly built vault bathrooms. The campground has recently been expanded and improved. We didn't see an Iron Ranger and the brochure we looked at didn't say anything about paying so we assume it's free. First section has 4 campsites that small trailers can fit in. I wouldn't take anything much over 20 ft. as there is a small wooden bridge to cross and you have to weave between some trees. Once you get there the area is roomy enough to turn around and find a nice spot. If you are familiar with the area you may be able to get a larger trailer in through the back way over the railroad tracks but I'm not sure about that. Second section further around the lake is the group area with 4 more sites. The group sites are double wide and there are two bathrooms in this section.
They have added several fishing docks around the lake with a lovely path to walk on. The best part about the campground is the awesome view of Mt Shasta over the lake. We like the area for fishing and the peace and quite. There is also a resident bald eagle that flies over the lake. Every time we have been there it is either empty or one camper camping.

After a disastrous stay at Elk Creek campground we made our way to Curly Jack. Beautiful little forest service campground that has sites big enough for our 34 footer. We stayed here in early October so we had it almost to ourselves. Park was clean and vault toilets were clean. Paved pads and each site has a table and fire pit. Great place to stay while we explored the area.

Have stayed here many times. Off road enthusiasts are the main people that camp here. Camping is dispersed with a few areas to get out of the wind, and yes it does get windy. Miles of trails and roads for riding. The Pacific Crest Trail runs through the area for hiking. The camping area is also just down the road from Red Rock Canyon State Park which offers hiking and fabulous formations to photograph.
As an off roader we never get bored here and are always finding new trails and places to ride. We always find a secluded place to camp and rarely need four wheel drive to get to our spot. Have seen small RV's all the way up to big diesel pushers camped here. Scout out the roads before traveling as during winter sometimes they can be muddy and you may get stuck. Lots of areas with fire rings but bring your own wood. Very few vault toilets and sometimes water is available at the state park.

First time camping at this campground. Loved it and will definitely be back. We lucked out and parked in the best site which is #16. I believe there are 34 sites and all sites are on a first come basis. Even though the campground filled up on the weekend we felt like we where by ourselves backed up to the river in our own paradise. In this area of the Sierras we usually boondock out in the woods but Eureka Valley campground has sites that fit our large rig and it was not dusty and was nice to have the river at our back door. Over half of the sites will accommodate large rigs. There are no hookups but all sites had nice tables and fire rings. The campground has vault toilets and three water pumps to get water, although you can not fill your rig with this water. Generators are allowed to run 8am-8pm. The campground is in close proximity to Kennedy Meadows for supplies, a quick meal, hiking, horseback riding and a drink at their saloon. We liked that we could drive a couple of miles if we needed anything but camp farther down the road away from the crowds.

The road past Clarks Fork starts to get curvy but was not a problem for our 34' toyhauler. We stayed here during a meteor shower and it was spectacular.

We did not have any AT&T cell reception and radio was a little hard to get also. So peaceful that we didn't even try to get television.
