Base Commander has now turned most of the FamCamp to permanent residents, i.e. family housing. Edwards does not offer reservations. We tried to to get a spot in Oct., Dec., and Jan, but they were packed. Many trailers have outside storage sheds, stacked storage containers, plants, multiple propane tanks, large grills, dog pens, and other add ons. In 2022, the base added 16 full-hookup sites on the outer perimeter of the 36 original sites. We were able to get a site in April. Because most original sites have long term occupants, expect to use the new sites. I went to the Recreation Dept. to pay for site 50. I was told I had to have my RV in the site first. I asked how that would work if you have a Class A,B, or C RV. The policy is that you get in the site, then call and pay. If you drive away to get groceries or other activities, someone else can claim your site, even if you paid for it. You must force the site host or base security to enforce your site occupancy. The Recreation Department said they are not really set up for anything but trailers. They were willing to find a cone to place at your site if you leave, but that is no guarantee. The new sites are bare rock, which gets all over your shoes. There are no tables at the new sites. Until the base moves out the permanent residents, this FamCamp is marginal quality at best. Under base HPCON “B” and higher, retirees and other non-assigned FamCamp users may only enter the base on Wednesday and weekends. For example, if you need to get off base on Monday, you would not get back to your RV until Wednesday. Check the base HPCON first. Overall, Edwards AFB is a prime example of benefits erosion. The drive is about 15 miles from the west base perimeter to the FamCamp.

Stayed for two nites in March. Staff worked with us to get the he site we wanted. Easy check in. Lighting is reasonable. Campers were fishing using waders right off the park. Utilities were in good shape, facility clean and well maintained, and restrooms were clean. Nice pool that was well used. The park had an excellent tamales truck come thru Saturday morning, and it was excellent. As of May 18, 2024, this park is no longer a KOA. This facility is "FireFly Coastal Bend", https://firefly-resorts.com, selling RV spaces starting at $99,900.

Site 54. Stayed overnight. Overall, park was clean and well maintained. Bathroom and pool were clean. Staff was super helpful, friendly, and treated RVers professionally. Site 54was unlevel, front-to-back, so as a journey site, it was not a good one. SIte 54 was noisy, being right at the entrance and close to the road. The site had illumination by a bright street light adjacent to the dump station. We’ve stayed here many times, and this was the worse site we’ve ever had. Will return, but hopefully we can stay away from this front row. Leave this row to those who need close access to the bathrooms.

Beautiful views. Large sites. Professional, helpful, and friendly staff. There are several 10% discount options. Electric and water only at sites, with dump station at office. Laundry with 2 washers and two dryers. Bathrooms were always clean and supplied. Site are mostly sloping from south to north, making overnight stays unlevel without unhitching. Nice trees and some grassy areas. Pet walk areas are around some perimeters. Easy access to services, stores, and restaurants. We will return when stopping in the Mojave area.

We returned for another 9 nite stay. Sites have electric and water only. One dump station is by office. Enjoy the views, location, and Tehachapi amenities. Most sites slope front to back, so you may need to unhitch a trailer to level. Bathroom was clean, but one Men's shower was out of service. Staff is professional, friendly, and will work with you. Quiet location at night, and we often heard coyotees at nite. Aircraft frequently fly during the day, so it can be a bit noisy.

Easy access. Pull thru long enough for us to not unhitch. Site was adequately level. There was some road noise. Lots of lights around, so stay away from office area. Bathroom was clean. Staff friendly, professional, and helpful. Good pet walking areas.

Arrived Dec 1 and stayed in site 32. Sites are well spaced. Pads are concrete and level. Utilities worked well. Beach is an easy walk away. Area was clean and well maintained. Camp host was friendly and helpful. During our visit, the mosquitoes abundant, and we could not comfortably sit outside. We used Ranger Ready 20% picaridan all over, but the mosquitoes were constantly swarming around our face, ears, and hands. Bright lights from dock lit up the river at night, so it is not really a dark skies place. Restrooms were closed for renovation, and they provided porta-potties and showers in a trailer. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, and we will be better prepared for our next visit.

Site is not as advertised. Approach road is narrow with deep erosion on the sides. Site listing was concrete, but site was dirt. Site 108 is not level, has deep ruts. Picnic table was dirty and covered with debris. Check in was OK, but park office closes at 5:00 even during summer peak season. Bathrooms were far away from site, and not all bathrooms have showers. Lots of long term residents, some with fixed models on sites. Will not return.
