Update: the original review was written prior to my visit to the dump / water site at the Westside Campground. This CG sits across the lake from Sand Pit CG and is more accommodating to the typical RVer.

We definitely were in the minority as most of the Sand Pit CG was filled with UTV devotees. They were here for a rally which thankfully we were able to avoid by leaving early the next morning. Sand Hollow Sand Pit CG is essentially just that, a sand pit with camping sites, and it is not what I have come to expect from Utah SP. it would qualify as a dispersed camping destination were it not for the designated camping sites and the steep price: $28 for the site and an $8 transaction charge. Water and a dump were available but nowhere near our site. Perhaps, it might be more accommodating at other times; however, I don’t plan on returning to verify.

Fill up on fuel and water. Dispose of black and grey and trash. All in one conveniently located facility. The water and dump site is tucked into a corner of the property and some RVs may have difficulty accessing.
And there is a Mexican food restaurant inside. All good to go for some more dry camping!

A bit of patience is necessary to select this location to overnight. It is a RV Park in name only and the property owner has an informal system in reserving and assigning the five sites. And upon arrival the check in is not what one would describe as good business practices. Cash only. However, once she has positioned you at the assigned site, the camping experience on the banks of the Dolores River rivals any campground. Yes, it is dry camping. While there is no electric or dump, water is free from a well near the owner’s residence. A picnic table and fire pit (wood provided) are located at each site and two decks extend over the river. There is traffic noise from CO 145; however, it is tolerable. Site 3 was level. Plenty of shade. Able to stream Netflix, but the signal was weak and data transmission slow. Internet access was satisfactory.
Interesting that site 5 is considered “private” and she discourages interaction with those campers. The cost of privacy is $30 a night.

I generally refrain from posting negative reviews. However, in this instance, it is best that a RV traveler be forewarned. I reserved a spot for one night and perhaps the challenge of doing so should have been telling. The park is owned and operated by the Table Mountain Church and the RV park is adjacent. They offer full hookups for $40 per night but the sites are crammed together with back ins off what I think was the church’s driveway. Once I arrived at the destination, I immediately cancelled my reservation and booked a site at Aspen Acres RV Park which is about a 15 minute drive. On a positive note, the person with whom I communicated prior to my visit was most gracious and welcoming; although patience (a virtue?) is required.

It’s all about convenience for me when overnighting at this campground. Reservations only by phone; however the staff is friendly and helpful in making arrangements. Access and check in/out is quick and easy right off I-10. Sites are spacious and level on a gravel surface. FHUs.

While being on top of the hill provides a great sunset view, this visit was highlighted with winds gusting to 40 mph; “breezy” be even west Texas standards!

Quick check in and escorted to site; driver guide parked us in a shady site. However it was not full hookup; settled for the trade off. Entire RV park is gravel with sites close together. Site 15 was level. Provided WiFi PW; however, no reception at site.

Tips: Initial cell reception was poor; however after I rebooted both ATT and Verizon, the signal was exceptional.

Leisurely drive allowing for photo ops of fall colors in the San Juans between Silverton and Ouray. That and the pre-requisite Dallas Divide classic images. Restocked at Walmart in Montrose CO and, based on Campendium info, emptied tanks and filled our water tanks at the Montrose County Fairgrounds and Event Center in preparation for two nights with no access to RV utilities.

This was the first time that I took advantage of Compendium’s travel directions using Google Maps. In fact, it was so accurate that we overnighted within a few yards of the programmed destination. Great option!

We were driving the Frontier Pathways Scenic and Historic Byway in Colorado from Pueblo to Colorado City when we “discovered” what was to become our destination for that night. We were scheduled to overnight at the Table Mountain RV Park in Rye, CO. However, once we arrived at the Rye location, it was not an inviting park and we cancelled the reservation (I’ve written a separate review). We were fortunate to book at the last minute a back in site with full hook ups at Aspen Acres. The sites were well spaced, clean and mostly level. Our “backyard” was a huge boulder surrounded by Aspen. The WiFi works well but only in the general area of the office. There is a large community room adjacent to the office. While planning my July travels, I had overlooked Aspen Acres because of its location; yet it is only a 30 minute SCENIC drive from Colorado City.

Ole Cotton Gin continues to impress. Drove directly to site as all arrangements made in advance: on line reservation and confirmation call from owner made this an easy overnight. Level parking. Nearby train traffic was audible but not overly disturbing.

Ditto on previous comments. Adding: We had agreed to be flexible in our travels. Today we put it to the test: deciding to pass San Luis SP CG because of forecast sub-freezing temps. Instead, we stay at Woods and River CG in Del Norte CO. It is what it name says: a great W/E site embraced by trees and overlooking the Rio Grande River. While the $45 fee is more than we normally are willing to pay, it was just a couple of dollars more than San Luis which requires that you have a $43 fishing license to camp.
