Since our last visit in April ‘18, the park suffered a devastating flood in October of that year. Evidence of that natural disaster remain almost four years later as efforts continue to repair the damages. The most obvious is the rebuilding of entrance roads. However, the natural debris of fallen trees is yet to be cleared in the wake of a wall of water that came rushing down from the Llano River. All trails are open; although direct access to the river is prohibited due to the fragile bank.

RV sites show no evidence of the disaster; electric and water connections function and staff maintains it reputation of a clean and efficiently run campground. That is the norm for Texas state parks.

Texas SP don’t allow on-line reservations within 24 hours of your planned stay. However, on site rangers at the park’s hq are very accommodating and helpful in locating the perfect last minute site. Ours was #68 (back in with w/e) with no neighbors to our right and a short stroll to the lake shore. This is a huge SP with segregated units for tents, 50 and 30 amp units. Concrete pads are level; sites are spotless and cell service allows for streaming. This is a do again. FYI: an annual $70 Texas park pass allows for unlimited visits to any park in the lone star state.

We got the senior discount off the regular $16 rate. As noted by others, it ain’t fancy but it is clean and quiet with an incredible view of Mesa Reservoir. Very few other campers during the night that we stayed.

First class RV destination. Our site #12 was on the Colorado River shoreline. Unobstructed view. FHU. Concrete pad. Nicely landscaped and well maintained. Check in was quick and easy. On line reservations with Reserve America. It is part of the Texas State Parks system and annual passes are honored. Great fishing location judging from the catches made from the dock located behind our site.
There is access to the Gulf of Mexico beaches; about a half mile along an elevated boardwalk with more fishing opportunities. Lots of boat traffic on the river accessing the Gulf; however it only adds to the aesthetic value of this location.

Located at 8,100 feet on the eastern side of the San Juan Mountain range , this CG is unique in many ways. Twenty miles north of Durango CO, it is easily accessible via highway 550. Access sign on 550 clearly marks the entrance to the narrow and winding road which is hard surfaced and in good condition.

There are welcoming and informative camp hosts at the pay station entrance. The park itself is divided into four ‘loops.” We stayed at a “premium” site (#43) with a view of the lake; albeit mostly drained due to ongoing drought. There was electricity at this and many other sites in the CG. However, there is no water for RV filling or a dump. The site had a table, fire pit and trail access to the lake bed. We did get a “senior” discount of 50% on the $43 fee.

We spent one of the few remaining days of the CG season which ended on September 30. It was also shoulder season for fall color as the Aspen were just beginning to put on their annual show.

For those of us who live at 23 ft above sea level (LA), hiking (slow walking pace!) at this elevation was a challenge but the looping dirt roads within the CG were a temptation not to be resisted.

All in all, a pleasant experience and one to be repeated.

We’ve stayed on Dellanera several times over the last four years and it never fails to meet expectations. The well spaced sites are concrete pads with FHU and our favorites are the ocean fronts which can accommodate back-ins from 30’ to 55’. There are also pull throughs in the center of the campground and additional back-ins along the lagoon side.

There is wifi; however it is less than robust. There is no cable. We are self contained and did not access the showers / lavatories. Strong cellular with ATT and Verizon.

Staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. Obviously rates vary based on time of year and length of stay. We spent Easter week 2022 for a little over $300 ocean front….total!

Located just beyond the sea wall, the City of Galveston (which operates Dellanera) is easily accessible. Walkable beach to the west. Highly recommend.
