Nerdy companion to my husband, heroic storyteller to my children, shameless romance reader the rest of the time, I'm always on the lookout for the most beautiful and interesting spots in America to share with my favorite people.

Drive through Lamar Valley to see herds of buffalo, not to mention tons of other wildlife such as foxes, bears, and elk. Be prepared to take your time and enjoy the panoramic scenery. Many travelers advise making the drive early in the morning for the most animal viewings.

For spectacular views, be sure to visit the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone Park. You can just pull over and take some pictures, or there are multiple trails that you can hike to see all kinds of wildlife and natural features, including the Lower Yellowstone River Falls.

Yellowstone National Park is one of the most iconic road trip destinations in the United States. It's enormous, and so full of wonders and things to do that it can be overwhelming knowing where to start.

It's Miami, so if you're looking for an authentic German vibe, keep on going. But if enjoying a frosty beer poolside sounds like heaven, this is the place. A self-described gastro pub, the food is excellent and the beer menu is extensive. But it's greatest appeal is its cool, laid-back atmosphere. Dogs are allowed too!

The Enchantment Resort and Mii Amo Spa in Arizona offers a whole variety of packages, including meals, spa treatments, and full access to the resort's many amenities. Between spa treatments, indulge in yoga, hiking, organic gardening, cooking demonstrations, and juicing classes. If that's not enough to entice you, the desert views are absolutely breathtaking.

If you're looking for something a little more high-end, the Sagamore is a Victorian era resort that has been catering to the rich and famous since 1883. Burned down twice, closed down and then restored in 1983, this hotel is full of history.

New Yorkers have been flocking to Lake George for over a century, and it's easy to see why. Located halfway between New York City and Montreal by railroad, the lake attracted wealthy visitors during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It's now a family destination with numerous attractions along its shores.

It's an amusement park designed specifically for young children. How many times have you packed your kids into the car, paid exorbitant entrance fees, and spent the day in the hot sun only to discover that half the rides are not appropriate for your children? Either the younger children are physically too small to be allowed on the ride, or the ride is simply to scary and they refuse to get on. Story Land is perfect for children under 10 years old. And because it's so kiddie-oriented, the packs of teenagers that tend to roam free in amusement parks are practically non-existent.

The Atlantic City Boardwalk has been a city institution since 1870. Between the shopping at Pier Shops at Caesars, the rides at Steel Pier, and the multiple museums and memorials, the boardwalk is seven miles of attractions for the whole family. Although Hurricane Sandy did a number on it, most of the boardwalk is now up and ready for business this summer.
