Nerdy companion to my husband, heroic storyteller to my children, shameless romance reader the rest of the time, I'm always on the lookout for the most beautiful and interesting spots in America to share with my favorite people.

The shakes, ice cream sodas, and the egg creams are all great. The rest of the menu is basic, to say the least. But the best part is that this 50s diner doesn't feel like a tourist trap. No cutesy memorabilia on the walls, no cheesy bee-bop playing. It genuinely feels like nothing has changed since it opened all those decades ago.

This is real Chinese food in Boston's Chinatown, so adjust your expectations accordingly. Chinatown is not known for its white tablecloths, upscale atmosphere, or friendly service. That being said, the food here is amazing. Do NOT come in and order crab rangoon. I'm not saying they don't have American Chinese food, but don't waste your time. There's a PF Chang's down the street if that's what you want. The lettuce wraps are delicious, and almost anything with fish in it is going to be a winner. If you are not Asian, be prepared to stand out like a sore thumb and be prepared to being patient while ordering. Most of the staff speak English, but it is definitely not their first language. Trust me, it's all worth it for the lettuce wraps!

The reflecting pool is one of the prettiest spots in Boston. Just around the corner from the Prudential Center, the quick walk is more than worth it.
