We reserved the month of Feb. several months in advance in order to stay in the same place with friends. The campground is older, and the new owners are trying to make improvements....that's a good thing. Sites are incredibly tight and the trees, while they are lovely and provide nice shade are WAY overgrown and I would not advise anyone with a taller rig to stay here. We saw several come and go (both 5th wheels and class A's) that rubbed on the roof and sides. We had a monthly rate and were quoted one thing on the phone, but check the link you get by email confirming, because it was quite different. I called back and it was adjusted. A word to the wise, the book keeping seems a little creative to me, so if you reserve, screen shot it because it changes (sadly I hadn't done that so had no hard proof)--we spoke to other campers with the same issue. Some sites that are billed as premium water view have what I'd call a glimpse of the water, and the one our friends stayed in had a small triangle of ground on the camp side with no room for picnic table, but not sure I'd like that because the sewer, water and power pedestal were all right there outside the camper door.

The campground is on the sound and there is a little beach which dogs are allowed on, so if you travel with pets, this may be a good choice for you. They have brought in pretty white sand on the bank leading down to the beach which looks really nice and they've put down some sod in many sites, but they request you not put anything on the grass. The sunsets can be spectacular so you can carry your chairs down to enjoy them....would be nice if they placed some permanent chairs in this area for the guests to use.

They do overbook and use any open space for "overflow" and run long electric extension cords. They have some tent sites but they are wedged between the road and a board fence. I felt very bad for the tent campers here. Many of the RV sites don't have enough room to park you tow vehicle.

No campfires allowed at your site, only the "communal pit" by the corn hole boards and laundry room. Bring your own wood. We inquired about using our propane fire pit and they said absolutely no. Not sure why a communal smoky fire pit is safer than my little propane one, but that's the rules.

We didn't use the shower house but peeked in. It's an older one refurbished in a "rustic shabby chic" decor which was cute.

Read the other reviews, both good a bad because there's both here.

We enjoyed it here. It’s likely pretty crowded in the summer! Moose and views! And art inside the vault toilets. The road around the loop is a little rough but not too horrible. Good Verizon signal. And we saw Moose!

We stayed here to visit Carlsbad Caverns and catch up on a little down time. Because we were there 3 nights, we saw folks come and go and watched it fill completely 2 of the 3 nights, so you might want to make sure you arrive before it gets too late. There's a pit toilet that was honestly very clean. They also have trash cans and each site (6 tent only) and 6 RV sites had a covered picnic table placed on a concrete slab. Any size rig would have no problem and the road in was gravel, but also very nicely graded.

Dry camping and perfect for us. Covered picnic tables, otherwise full sun, which we love for solar. Very clean pit toilets. The views here are phenomenal! So many things to see and do in the area too. water available and easy to fill tanks. no dump, so just be aware. We absolutely loved this place. Our Verizon coverage was "extended" and minimal-enough to text and voice.

Make sure to drive the Enchanted Circle thru Red River, Eagle's Nest, Angel Fire and Taos. Also, don't miss the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial in Angle Fire.

We got so lucky to grab a 9 nite cancellation and enjoyed staying here very much. The area has much to do ie:Davis Mountains Scenic Drive, hiking in abundance, the McDonald Observatory (get tickets in advance for tours), day trips to Marfa or Alpine if your route doesn't go thru them, bicycling, the historic Fort Davis National Site, the cute little town of Fort Davis, and there's a dude ranch right up the road if that's your thing.

Make sure to go check out the Indian Lodge within the park, it's really cool! And keep an eye out, you'll likely see wildlife. We saw deer, javalina, and tons of birds--it's one of those TX birding parks.

I'm surprised anyone reports cell service. Our Verizon worked well on the top of the scenic overlook, but in the CG nothing. They do have a free public WIFI, but I didn't use it, so can't report.

The shower house was fine and while the lighting in it was dim, I think thats because this is a Dark Sky Park. The stars here a phenomenal!

The power was clean, water pressure was high, and the sewer HU was not really useful because "it doesn't flow uphill". We used blocks to level our site-no big deal.

What is not to love about staying right on a beautiful stream in a National Park? Camp hosts were fantastic and full of great info. We hiked from the campground to Bath House Row and all over the mountain. Bathrooms are clean with flush toilets. No showers. We had a level site with full 50amp hook ups, water, and sewer. Truly worth the effort to get in here. We did note that some spots not on the stream were not as level.
You do hear a little road noise going thru the gulch, but it is very minimal at night.

The area is beautiful!! This is dry camping which we do all the time, but the only water hydrant available is at the ranger station which is on a hill with very very tight parking around it. Not trying to sound negative, just want to let folks know they may not be pulling their rigs in to fill tanks. We originally reserved spot 37 which should have fit our rig, but it was way unlevel and would have been impossible to get into for us. We were able to switch to site 47 which was honestly very lovely and apart from the main loop so nice and private. The few ele spots (we didn't have or need one) are powered by a large commercial type generator so a little odd. The pit toilet in the main loop was very clean, but it was far from our site, if that's a concern for you. The dump station also is at the entrance to the park and pretty tight width wise due to the gates on either end if you have a lot of tail swing.

As you may know, the campground here has been redone after Hurricane Michael ravaged things and recently has reopened part of the sites. It is not like it was formerly we've been told. Many of the sites no longer have vegetation between them, but on the plus side, the road is perfect (unlike the other roads in the park), the sites are full hook up and it is a beautiful place to be close to all sorts of attractions, restaurants, and the like but still enjoy nature and that "state park" vibe.

The nightly price above reflects the site $28 a night and the $7 utility fee pr night (which is mandatory). There is a jetty, a pier, a marina, and trails you can hike as well as just look for wildlife in the dune lakes and marsh areas. And of course there is the beautiful emerald coast!!

Our campsite backed to the bay (the campground is on the bay side of the park) and we loved the view. We saw dolphins a couple of times, turtles, deer, tons of water birds and even a large shark in the bay our first evening there.

First, we loved exploring this fantastic state park!! We did all the hikes in our 4 day stay. We were here in early April, so of course the pool was not open, but there is so much to do here and it is just beautiful. Getting to the park you are going to have to deal with twisty, hilly roads but it was so worth it. You must check in at the visitors center prior to going to your site even if you have a confirmed reservation.

We stayed in C loop (this one and D are the older ones) which was very wooded. Our site was a bit tight due to trees, but if you are a skilled backer, no problem for a 28 ft TT. We had decent signal with Verizon for talk/text and sporadic data. Our site was pretty unlevel, 5-6" side to side and about the same front to back so make sure you have plenty of leveling capabilities. There are brand new sites in what I think was B loop. We were just happy to get in this popular park, so if you're not too picky about premium sites, I'd say it was worth it.

Shower house in our loop was old but clean. We had 30 amp electric which worked fine and water hook up. The dump station was fine as well.

We did have a tornado watch during our stay and the camp hosts came by to make sure we realized Mather lodge would be open all night in the event that we received a seek shelter warning which we truly appreciated!

We enjoyed this spot enough that we extended our stay. First we were in site 24 (A loop, which is more level than the ones in B) for 5 nights and then moved to 69. Oddly they are not that far apart but the cell signal for Verizon was notably better in 69. Most sites are gravel, but there are a few newly done ones with concrete pads. 30amp electric only so fill your water when you arrive. next to the dump station (separate water source). Both sites were on the water 24 had sunrise and 69 had sunset views. The bath house was clean and heated which we were pleasantly surprised about given we stayed the end of March still off season. No doubt this place is busy in the summer with beautiful Lake Ouachita at your front door.
No camp host during our stay (again off season) which was not an issue. Reserve online and then grab your tag. Staff will come around and confirm your reservation and issue a new "official tag".

The road in is a bit tight and twisty with several low water crossings. We visited Lake Ouachita State Park to hike and several places in Hot Springs while staying here making it a good home base.
