“Outdoors & Recreation in Santa Fe, NM”
New Mexico’s first State Park is set in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains amongst a forest of pines along Little Tesuque Creek. The park is a short drive from Santa Fe and offers excellent group facilities and campsites. There are beautiful hiking trails with spectacular views. You can enjoy Hyde Memorial State Park in the winter months too with snowshoeing, sledding and cross-country skiing. The historic Lodge is the perfect location for your next family reunion, wedding or other event. Park Elevation 8,300 - 9,400 ft

Confirmed by 3 users | Last reported on August 24, 2021The National Forest Campground was closed so I went up here to stay. It was nearly full. The sites are mostly just pull-offs from the main road (one-lane, one-way). Almost did not get a spot, only 2 left on a Sunday night. Looks like several people had been there quite a while. Creek running down the mountain was nice as you could hear the water. A bit noisy as anyone coming through the park has to go past you (on the one lane road) and the park is along the highway that goes farther up the mountain.
One night stay, close to Santa Fe and Los Alamos.

Beautiful little park in the mountains. I almost gave it a five star rating just because this is the first time we've been back into the big forest mountains in a long, long time.
There are some RV hookup sites (probably just water and electric) but only a handful, in their own area, and they were full up. I assume they're next to impossible to get.
Even the regular sites were nearly full on a Monday at 2pm, so apparently this is quite the popular spot. The regular sites seem pretty gnarly for those wanting to camp in an RV as even our van had a little trouble making it up the dirt road...and when I turned around to drive back down and pay a ranger gave me a signal I thought was a hand wave but instead meant, "Slow down, turn around, and quit being a rookie."
Vault toilets were pretty clean.
Absolutely no AT&T service so we didn't stay for long, given that some of us have to work, unlike these freeloading rangers who get to hang around making trails and listening to the birds gossip all day.

We arrived on a Sunday in April, desperate for a site because our first stop farther up the mountain didn’t work out. The campground is a little weird because it appears to be spread out along the main road with several loops to pull off at. We just pulled into the first one we saw which had about 6 electric sites, only 1 left available so we jumped on it. It was level, but all sites (at our loop at least) were directly next to the road, so there was considerable car noise at night. Each site had a picnic table and fire pit with grill. There was one vault toilet and zero garbage cans. I would only stay here again if I wanted to be close to Santa Fe, otherwise there’s quieter campgrounds for the same price.

Visited to check out and see if I wanted to purchase a non-resident annual pass. Very disappointed. Steep very dusty rutted road in one of the loops I visited. Rustic, out of date campground that looks pretty unattended to. Black Canyon down the road a bit and part of the NF is much nicer. I suppose I ought to try a couple of other state parks before deciding on purchasing an annual pass, but if I had to decide based on Hyde Memorial I’d pass.

I was here last winter when Santa Fe itself was very pleasant yet up in the mountains, about 8" of snow had just fallen. I believe I ended up in the loop for sites 37-46 as it was the only area open at the time. And I assume the other campgrounds up and down the road were closed as well due to the snow. Most of the remaining sites in this linear park are in the woods and apparently, from other reviewers, on unpaved roads and not in great repair in some cases. But I loved this section. Sites were paved are level, nice picnic table and electrical hookup to keep things warm. It wasn't that cold, but cool enough that it took several days for the snow to melt. It was just under 8 miles to get from the campground to my brother's house in central SF. It was great that he had his old RAV4 to loan me for the trips back and forth. SF was great, from downtown, the farmers market, and galleries. Definitely a place I'd like to visit again and explore further.

We stayed at this 8 space RV park located in the middle of Santa Fe National Forest for one night. The spaces were decent size and level. Each spot contained grass, trees, a fire pit with firewood, and a picnic table. Electric was provided and water was available at the ranger station. No dump station was available. There were lots of hiking trails in the area. Wi-fi and cell service were non-existent. Location is 8.5 miles from downtown Santa Fe. We made a reservation on-line which required a $4 processing fee, in addition to the usual $14 nightly fee.

The area is beautiful!! This is dry camping which we do all the time, but the only water hydrant available is at the ranger station which is on a hill with very very tight parking around it. Not trying to sound negative, just want to let folks know they may not be pulling their rigs in to fill tanks. We originally reserved spot 37 which should have fit our rig, but it was way unlevel and would have been impossible to get into for us. We were able to switch to site 47 which was honestly very lovely and apart from the main loop so nice and private. The few ele spots (we didn't have or need one) are powered by a large commercial type generator so a little odd. The pit toilet in the main loop was very clean, but it was far from our site, if that's a concern for you. The dump station also is at the entrance to the park and pretty tight width wise due to the gates on either end if you have a lot of tail swing.

Hyde Memorial is about 8 miles from downtown Santa Fe, which suited us very well for a one-day visit to town. We took site #47, best spot in the park, all alone on one side of the road. There was plenty of traffic during the day hours on the road, but nothing at night, so we slept well. Down side was there was no water or bathrooms nearby (might have been some across the road, but we didn't go look). No cell service at all either. Pretty good inexpensive spot for a short stay.

Were booked for a site (#46) for two months, then a week before recv'd notice from NMSP that it was subject to 24-7 generator noise. Not only that, it was a big gravel parking spot on a high hill with the shelter & table yards away from the electrical post! Camp hosts were terrific and let us take #42 next to them, vacated early by another camper. The spots are tight, there is just this one loop of electrical sites in the park and the busy road runs just a few yards past all the campsites. But esp in the morning it was green and cool and peaceful and we were glad to be spared the generator noise of the original booking. No cell service, no dump, no water, lots of campfire buffs (even in June) filling the air with smoke. But it's closest to Santa Fe.

Power only and took some extra boards to level but so peaceful up here. However, the sign for the RV portion isn’t clear and you can easily go up to the right into the main camping area which is NOT rv friendly. The day we were there someone went in that way by accident and had to unhook and have a 4WD haul their trailer out. Go past and RV campground is to the left. Great campground hosts.
