Great proximity to the caverns. Very quiet and peaceful. Restroom is very clean and supplied with toilet paper; plus it has a light at night (solar) to guide you to it.
The only negative I can say about this place is IF the wind is blowing at all, you WILL feel it; as my Dad used to say about our hilltop farm in Vermont, "all that stands between us and the North Pole is a barb-wire fence...and that's down".

I chose this place because:
Carlsbad Caverns National Park, a few miles to the north (you can see the visitor's center from Sunset Reef) and Guadalupe Mountains National Park , just a few miles south. Take your pick. We went to both plus more. Since I did not see a decent campground, that you must pay to occupy, with better amenities than Sunset Reef, I chose Sunset Reef.
Restroom, yes, water point on site, no. As for Water and Propane, I wrote an extensive note where to find those, close by. See the notes section. ALSO, read the directions on getting here. Some of us pass the place up and not finding it down the road, THEN go back and read the notes, and find this place then.
I also enjoyed things on the other side of the range, near Dell City, like the Salt Sand Dunes. Sitting Bull Water Fall, etc...
Location: Looking up to the top of the nearby mountain/hill, that is the Carlsbad Visitor Center I see up there. At the Visitor Center, I can see the campground, if there is a big enough RV here. Otherwise, it all looks like desert. We don't hear the highway.

We came in Friday night and sincere must have lucked out because there were 3 available rv spots to choose from. Every other night we stayed was booked solid with rvers lining the fence.
The bathroom was squeaky clean and the covered picnic tables with the fire pits made our stay very pleasant! We appreciated the code proximity to the Caverns and Guadalupe NP.

What an amazing BLM. We lucked out and got one of the RV pull throughs. Spend 4 nights exploring the caverns, hiking at Guadalupe National Forest and refuelling in Carlsbad. Enjoyed ourselves. Nice and clean with respectful neighbours. Thanks for such an outstanding site. Great Verison- 2-3 bars.

We were there a week and most of those days all of the “spots” with picnic tables were occupied, but it never got so full that new arrivals couldn’t fit around the edges of the lot.

I expected just a large field for parking but this place had picnic tables, a super clean and lighted vaulted toilet, trash bins etc! Very well maintained. I highly recommend it.

It is a nice little 5 night spot. Garbage cans, toilet, fire pits, and picnic tables. Surprisingly quiet for how busy and small it is. Fills up quick tho.

This is a very nice place to camp with a good location. It got very crowded during spring break season and there were some generators running most of the time.

Other campers were all very considerate here. We felt bad running our generator as it seemed that no one else was. We arrive on a Saturday during spring break(3/25) and we’re lucky to find a spot. We stayed one night and went to the caverns.
Please help keep this place clean!
