This camp ground is a great KOA. The staff/hosts do an excellent job making their campground shine.

The cons:
The campground is fairly far from the “local attractions”. (This issue is a con for most but others will love it). The bathrooms are not kept stocked and since I never saw the empty toilet paper rolls replace, I’m assuming they check it on some weekly basis.

The pros:
The majority of the staff is very friendly. The campground itself seems to be maintained fiery nicely. The campground is far enough off the road that the highway noise is minimal.

In general, I would be happy to recommend this one to anyone passing through.

This campground is good when your passing through when the area. It’s right off the highway and you know it is there with constant drone of freeway traffic. The traffic noise is not distracting, just expect it because of your location.

The campground’s staff were friendly and helpful.

In general, the campground’s facilities are nice. It seems that they place the short term campers in the front section. The back section of the campground is for their long term campers.

The back section is still nice but their long term residents don’t try to keep their “stuff” placed either out of sight or stored in an orderly fashion.

The bathroom facilities were nice in the front. I’m sure the back section was also nice but we didn’t not use them.

We have camped a lot across the country both in state and private parks. I typically give RV Park owners a wide degree of latitude on their reviews and providing reasonable facilities. When I was researching this place Before coming out here, I found mixed reviews. I can honestly say this park far is the worst “resort” I have ever spent money at and will not be back.

This campground is located conveniently off of the highway and obviously caters to the transient traveler that are visiting Big Bend. The rates they charge are very high and you get very little in amenities. I guess common courtesy costs extra but I didn’t see that as an option when I booked my site.

The RV sites give you a place to hook up and thats about it. The sites really close, gravel pads which are kinda level and they mixed in with tent campers and cabin/motel rooms. This was a fun experience. The shouting, dog barking, flash light beams in your eyes and having your minor daughter get to see a grown man pee behind their dumpster. This is one classy “resort”.

Cell service is spotty out here and you would think that a “resort” would at least have WiFi at their rates. Nope. The only place you can access WiFi is in their “clubhouse” behind the office.

I found that there are a bunch of other places in the area that cater to RV’rs. Just sayin.

Hot Springs KOA campground is a fairly nice park but it is set up to be a layover park. The campground is fairly large but they have used every square foot of their property as a place to park a RV, cabin or set up a tent. The spaces are really tight and occupants have no privacy from next door or above. The terrain is very diverse and where we camped, we backed up into a hillside. RVer’s that were backed in at the top of the hill were able to look directly down into our site and able to listen to our conversation (if they were so inclined). From our site we had the ability to look down the hill into fellow campsites.

The dog park was clean and tidy. We were pleased to see that previous users had cleaned up after their dogs. The grounds seems to be taken care of and the area road noise is minimal.

Lastly, the roads are asphalt and very narrow with some of their trees were overgrown. We travel in a big, heavy rig so maneuvering around the grounds was a pain. Had a devil of a time avoiding scraping the side of coach, dodging the campers and their infrastructure.

The staff was nice and very helpful in making sure we backed into the correct spot. If you pull a trailer and are not very comfortable back it in, definitely get a pull through. With the really close quarters, backing into these sites are not set up for a novice.

This campground is located conveniently within the Kitty Hawk area. The road leading to the campground could use some attention but keep your speed down and you’ll have no issues.

Once inside the the campground the roads are well maintained and easy to navigate.

In general, the campground’s facilities are really good. The owners of this campground obviously take pride in their facilities and keeping appearances up.

The bath house was clean and good working order. We found all the staff to be friendly and helpful.

This facility is a do over again for us.

Salmon lake campground is a mixture between an off the beaten path campground and a destination style park. The campground is fairly large and has numerous old buildings and vehicles to look at as well as a lake to swim and play. At this campground there is a stage for them to host music type festivals, so the campsite layout makes sense to maximize getting as many RVs on the property as possible. The campsites were established in their open fields of grass, are very tight and far from level. The building that originally attracted us to the park are now dilapidated and unsightly. There is a vast difference between vintage/rustic and dumpy/neglected.

The folks that run the place seem to be very nice and check in was fairly simple. There are no reservations available for a specific sites and the vast majority of campsites are 30 amp. I spent a considerable amount of time driving around the park trying to locate a campsite that has 50 amp service. Very few sites have any amenities such as campfire rings or tables. You pay for a section of grass (with hook ups) to park your rig on and that’s about it. The water is also heavily sulphuric which isn’t a bad thing, it was just a shock.

Lastly, the majority of roads are compacted sandy, dirt mixture making it a little dicey to travel in a heavy rig. We had a nice visit but the campground wasn’t for us.

This campground is located conveniently off the highway but I will not plan to stay here again.

In general this campground is full of long term campers. The sites are a mixture of gravel / grass pads that are fairly level.

In general, the campground’s facilities are average at best. We passed quite a few other campgrounds on this same stretch of road that I will be using in the future....

We would definitely recommend this campground when your in the area. It’s off the highway enough to feel you are camping out of the city, but close enough to get back on the interstate within minutes.

The campground’s main attraction is the river traffic on the Mississippi River. Multiple benches are set up along the riverbank for you to relax and watch life float by. For those that don’t typically like to hear Diesel engines, the tugs pushing the barge traffic can be heard lumbering by. We thought that the rumbling of the boats were quint and enjoyed the experience.

The bathroom facilities were nice, they offer free use of their laundry and dryer facilities and the sites are spacious. The nightly rate is a bit high for the “amenities” but you are paying for the location by the river.

This camp ground really tries to maintain the same standards as other KOAs but it seems to be on the downward slide. From afar it seems to be a standard KOA, however, once you start your stay you recognize some issues.

The cons:
The campground is surrounded by either run down trailer homes or businesses. A train track is just down the street and is very active. Last night it seemed a train was blowing its horn every 45 minutes as it sped by. Some of their long term residents keep their site as if they are trying to blend in with the run down neighbors.

The pros:
The majority of the staff is very friendly. The campground itself seems to be maintained fairly well. The location in centrally located within the city.

In general, I don’t fault the campground for their surroundings but i wish others would have discussed some of this place’s drawbacks before made the decision to spent almost 40/night.
