“walk in the footsteps of the troops of 1815 at Chalmette Battlefield”
Site of the Battle of New Orleans in 1815, Chalmette Battlefield contains a reconstructed American rampart, an 1830s house, 100-foot-high Chalmette Monument, and outdoor exhibits for self-guided tours. Visitor center films and exhibits share the battle and the site's later history. Ranger talks offered daily. Chalmette National Cemetery was established during the Civil War and holds more than 14,000 graves of Americans from the War of 1812 to the Vietnam War; audio tour available. Free.
Nice Visitor Center and signage to really picture the Battle of New Orleans. We picked up a pamphlet about an audio tour at the adjacent National Cemetery and it was very interesting. We spent 3 hours total.
Location on here is incorrect. This pin is at Sidney Torres Park. Chalmette battlefield is labeled about a mile south - this is the correct location.
If you are visiting town, don't drive all the way out to see this. There really isn't much to do in chalmette. Instead, take the riverboat cruise from downtown (the French quarter). I believe tours leave at 9am and 1pm.
