“A Modern take on Southern Hospitality.”
The Hotel Modern New Orleans welcomes you. With no check-in desk, upon arrival you will be greeted with complimentary drinks in our lobby and escorted to your room just as if you were staying at a close friend’s guesthouse. Our 135 comfortable rooms were designed in-house with a modern eclectic aesthetic that mirrors New Orleans’ juxtaposition of Old World charm with New World diversity. Each of our rooms feature a spacious layout, hand-picked modern, yet comfortable furniture, and a selection of our private antique collection, all to meet the needs of our busy and well-traveled guests. The Hotel Modern goes beyond the basics to offer an array of cultural amenities, such as thoughtfully curated books in every room, live burlesque performances and a music series with international artists in our cocktail lounge, Bellocq, and worldly dining at our renowned restaurant, Tamarind. Our Lounge, named after photographer E.J. Bellocq, who secretly photographed the madams of pre-prohibition New Orleans, features a menu of original cocktail creations harkening back to the heyday of Storyville, from Cure founders Neal Bodenheimer, Kirk Estopinal and Matthew Kohnke. Acclaimed New Orleans chef Dominique Macquet (Dominique’s on Magazine) along with his chef de cuisine Quan Tran, have created their newest restaurant, Tamarind, at The Hotel Modern New Orleans. Named after the exotic tropical fruit Macquet enjoyed as a child growing up in Mauritius, the restaurant explores Vietnamese cuisine from the perspective of nearly a century of French colonial presence in Vietnam. Tamarind also features an outdoor courtyard and a 60-seat private dining room.
Reviews
This places markets itself as a hip modern urban hotel, and it certainly is trendy. It's within walking distance to the National WWII Museum, and for everything else just hop on a streetcar. Rooms are bright and cheery, there's free wifi, and a hotel library. The bistro prides itself on being farm-to-table, but my favorite part is the bar, which is resplendent in reclaimed wood, copper and sexy leather accents. Affordable but stylish.
Oddly nice hotel. For the price we payed i was expecting something way worse. All the staff is young and very friendly. I'm pretty sure we stayed in the cheapest room and it was still very nice, clean and new. the bed was AMAZING. You can walk to the french quarter from there with no problem and the neighborhood it is in is nice too but less populated.
