“What is the Thing!?”
What is the thing??? It is something fun and cheap to do! But what???
The Thing is super hokey, but it's a really neat little attraction! I'm super superstitious about it after getting my camera (and only my camera) stolen from my car a couple hours after taking a picture of it, so I won't tell exactly what it is, but you'll have a good time. It's located in a gas station/souvenir shop/dairy queen so at $2 a ticket it makes a fun little family pitstop!
$1/person over 18, $0.75/ person 6-18, and under 6 are free to see the attraction.
The Thing is a an otherworldly archeological relic that probably pre-dates the great pyramids. It, whatever "it" is, really should be in the Smithsonian Museum. Fortunately for culture vultures, it is easily accessible and affordable. Must see for yourself to believe.
Pretty cool place. The exhibit was neat and the gift store was huge. The staff there are super friendly. I’m a trucker and it had ample parking and overnight parking which was fantastic for me. Will come again for sure!
So for miles you see the billboards and for a couple dollars you get to take a break and see some cool artifacts and antiques however my kids just wanted to race to the end... It is a great break in a long car ride and the people working there were really friendly and nice
What if ..this was an interesting place to go? What if, ..it isn’t even close to interesting? What if ...you don’t get off the highway here? (You’d save $5 per person) What if ...You waste 20 minutes of your life you can never get back. What if...
Meh.
Fun place to stop to get gas, snacks and view The Thing. They do accept debit and credit cards.
This place is roadside weirdness at it's purest. If you find yourself traveling I-10, you'll no doubt see loads and loads of signs asking "WHAT IS 'THE THING?'", and you're bound to be curious. I won't ruin the surprise for you, but the answer harkens back to the early days of carnival sideshows.
You need a place to take a bathroom break and grab some snacks anyway, you're doing a disservice to yourself and your family if you don't just stop and take care of that here.
This is a great stop on I-10 east of Tucson. Lots of stuff to look at: Old cars, dioramas, just a bunch of crazy stuff presented in a quirky way, and then at the end, "The Thing?" I have visited several times, the first time long before reviews on the internet. This is true Americana.
